Locker Room Talk

I took a long sip of wine, watching Jillian scan the menu with her sunglasses sitting low on her nose. She blew a strand of hair from her face and looked up, shooting a smirk my way. "You alright?" I nodded and set my glass down as she turned her attention back to the menu. "I think I'm going to get the tuna tartare."

"I had a dirty dream about Jason." I blurted out, immediately clapping a hand over my mouth. She met me with a cackle, the laugh bubbling up slowly before pouring out of her like a song. She threw her head back and mine fell into my hands, people around us starting to stare.

"Jillie-"

"About Jason?" She asked, holding her sides as she wiped tears from her eyes. I nodded and she dissolved into another fit of giggles, gripping the edge of the table like she was too weak to hold herself up. "Are you serious?"

"Jillian!"

She calmed herself, taking long breaths and short sips of water between hiccups of residual laughter. I couldn't help but crack a grin as I watched her regain the composure and poise she usually held. Finally serious, she turned to me with a somber gaze and flipped her glasses up onto her head. "So?"

"So what?"

"So how was it?" She shrugged at me like it was perfectly normal to dream about her boyfriend in bed. I felt my toes curl a bit in my boots and I took a deep breath, reaching again for my glass of wine as she squealed. "Shay! Was it that good?"

"Holy sh- Jillian, it was so... real. I mean I could've sworn I felt his hands on me. And the sex- in the dream, of course," she nodded her approval, "oh God, it was amazing. He was so strong an- and manly. He just took me right there in-"

"In the locker room?" She asked excitedly. I pointed at her and tapped my nose. She hopped up in her chair and I laughed hard. "I've had that one before!" She said, her eyes glazing over a bit before focusing on mine. I narrowed my gaze before dropping it, picking at the loaf of sourdough bread between us as a waiter came by to refill our glasses.

"So you're not mad?"

"Not at all. Reilly's made a few appearances up here." she tapped her temple with a dark red nail and I raised an eyebrow, "Speaking of, what does he think about this?"

I took a deep breath and held it for a few seconds, quickly turning my attention to the menu on my plate. "The flatbread looks good."

She pulled a chunk from the loaf of bread and slathered it with butter, holding it a few inches from her mouth and shooting me a coy grin. "You haven't told him?"

I held my phone to my ear in a mock conversation. "Yeah Reills, can you stop by the store on the way home from the doctor's office? Yeah we need milk, eggs, and condoms for when I dream fuck your friend again. Yeah, that's a conversation I'll never have. He's already so bummed about not being able to play."

"But sex is important in a relationship." She offered through a mouth of bread.

"And before all of this we had a really healthy sex life. Like, an unusually healthy sex life. Jillie, I'm talking three or fo-"

"I get it! You're lucky and I hate you but I get it." She teased.

I continued with a smile, "But when you can't have sex it just... things are weird between us. We haven't even talked about it."

She sipped her drink and mulled it over, eyes wandering around the restaurant as she sat in thought. I leaned back in my chair and snagged my own piece of bread, tearing it into pieces on my napkin. Thinking about Reilly, lounging around the house with that forlorn look on his face, broke her heart into a million pieces. She felt so guilty thinking about another man when he was hurt. It's not like he asked for this. Shay had gotten so used to the physical of their relationship, his hands on her body spoke to her in ways he couldn't and for once she had communication that worked.

"Maybe that's the problem," she reached across the table and took my hand, giving it a light squeeze before continuing, "Maybe you two need to discuss it."

"Yeah, but how?"
