BIG CHANGE! PLEASE READ! Actually it's not that big, but I just wanted to let you know, that I changed the Olympics to Vancouver 2010 not Sochi 2014. If I did Sochi it would screw up the timeline so I decided to do Vancouver. Thanks!

~~~
Charley couldn't help but feel broken. It was her dream to go to the Olympics and she had lost her chance. She wanted to blame Jon and Jake so badly, but she knew that no matter what, it was her fault.
She stood from her seat in the conference room, trying to hold back tears. Right now isn't about her, it's about her boys who made the team. She pushes back her emotions and puts on a happy face. She waits until she gets all the boys attention to speak.
"Boys, I'm so proud of all of you. I love you all and you are all amazing players and I'm so happy to have been able to play with you. You all deserve to be on this team. Good luck to you and for those of you who haven't gotten drafted yet, I hope you do. I wish you all the best and I love all of you." the boys smile and clap but then realization dawns upon them.
"Charley, you didn't make the team." their goalie, Brandon observes. Charley nods. The boys all pull her into a group hug.
She can here things like 'I can't belive those dumbasses didn't put you on the team' and 'they're missing out on a great player' and 'it won't be the same without you' being tossed around.
"Boys right now we should focus on the fact that you made the team, not the fact that I didn't." Charley states firmly.
"So what?" Brandon asks. "We made it, awesome. But it's not going to be the same without you around. We all really wanted you there with us."
"Don't worry." she pulls Brandon into a hug. He really was the sweetest. "I'll be there to watch all of you play. And I fully expect you to kick ass or you'll have the wrath of me after you." the boys all laugh and the moment is bittersweet. It's the last time all of them will ever play together.
The boys all go out to celebrate. Charley begged them to. She didn't want them all down just because she didn't make the team. She returned to her room and was now lying the giant, fluffy, king bed in her pajamas watching re-runs of Say Yes to the Dress.
After about three episodes, a knock sounds at her door. She opens it and find Jon on the other side.
"What do you want Jon?" Charley sighs, rubbing her temples in annoyance.
"I wanted to say I'm sorry." Jon says. "What I said was a dick move. I was just angry that you didn't want me the way I want you. Please, can you forgive me? Plus it seems like you need a friend right now." Charley sighs again and opens her arms for Jon to hug. He happily pulls her into an embrace.
"So why aren't you out partying?" Charley asks once Jonathan is seated next to her on the bed. She curled up into him and is grateful once again for his presence.
"Because I wanted to make up with you. And something felt off about being out celebrating without you. You got us here. And you have no one else right now."
"Thanks Jon." it went silent for awhile, both of them just watching the TV.
"What did it feel like?" Jon asks. "Not being picked I mean?"
"Well," Charley begins, taking a deep breath. "You remember when you were a little kid and you used to go on famliy vacations to the beach? You'd look out at the ocean and admire how beautiful and enormous it was. Then later you'd be splashing and playing in the water and a massive wave would wash over you and suck you under. For a moment you couldn't tell which way was up, down, right or left. Panic would fill you and your lungs were burning from the lack of oxygen and all the beauty you once thought the ocean had was swept away. Then your head would surface and you'd realize everything was going to be okay. That's what it felt like. Except I'm still waiting for my head to resurface. And honestly, I'm not sure it ever will."
"Charley." Jon pulls her to him. "It'll all be okay. I'll save you."
"My hero." Charley replies sarcastically.
"So what are you going to do now."
"Go back to Canada I suppose. Just because I didn't make the team for Vancouver doesn't mean I have to stop playing hockey. I mean, there's a few months before Vancouver so Kyle and Noah will be home for awhile. Maybe I'll take a year off before going to college and stay home. Become the new coach of the high school team. I don't know. Things will work out though, hopefully."
"They will babe, they will." Jon tells her comfortingly. "You should come visit me in Winnipeg for a week sometime in the next few months."
"I might actually take you up on that offer sometime." Charley smiles.
The next morning Charley is standing in her hotel room, dressed and ready to go with her suitcases and bags sitting ready next to her. A knock comes at her door and when she opens it, Noah stands outside, his suitcase at his side. He beckons for her to go with him. She follows him down to the lobby where everyone else was checking out of their rooms and filing onto the shuttle that would take them to the airport.
She looks over towards the door and sees Jon leaning against the wall. He glances over and waves and she returns the wave. The door opens next to him and Coach M walks in followed by two other people, very professional looking people.
"Charley, could you come over here real quick." Charley calls out a yes and hands Noah her room key to check out for her. She shuffles over to Coach and the two strangers, feeling curious as to what Coach wants.
"What can I do for you Coach?"
"Hi Charley. This is Mike Babcock and Jacques Lemaire, they're the head coaches for the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team for Vancouver 2010. They wanted to speak to you."
"Hello Charley, we've heard so much about you and we've watched you play and are very impressed with your skills. As you have probably realized, we didn't rooster you on our team, but we would like to rooster you on the girls Olympic team. We realize that you have been playing with boys teams for the past few years, but because of Olympic regulations we cannot place you on the men's team. And because of these negotiations, it's taken us awhile to finally rooster you. So we could be happy if you would agree to play for the Women's Olympic Canadian Hockey Team." Mike Babcock tells her.
"Of course!" Charley squeals. "Thank you so, so much. I'm so happy. You don't know how much this means to me! Thank you so much!"
"We'll contact you as soon as you get back to Montreal." Charley thanks them and goes running over to Jon and jumps into his arms. He was quite surprised but was able to regain his balance and sustain her weight.
"What's going on?"
"I made the Women's Olympic Team!" Charley screams.
"Congrats Charley! I'm so proud!" Jon hugs her tight. The rest of the boys meander over, hearing the commotion and they all cheer and celebrate when Charley tells them she's been roostered on the Women's team.
On the shuttle on the way to the airport, Charley pulls out her phone and sends a text to Abby, who she had really gotten close to the last few days. They had been texting a lot and she just had to share the news with Abby.
From: Charley
I FUCKING MADE THE WOMEN'S OLYMPIC TEAM!
From: Abby
I'LL BE CHEERING FOR YOUR TEAM, BITCH! EVEN THOUGH I'M AMERICAN!
From: Charley
Thanks girl! I'll text you when I get home.
From: Abby
Okay, have a good flight!
Hours later Charley stumbles off the plane in Montreal. Her, Noah and Kyle make their way to baggage claim to collect their suitcases. Standing by are their families. Charley and Noah rush over to hug their mother while Kyle finds his family.
"Congrats, both of you, I'm so proud!" their mother gushes, pulling them into another hug. Charley looks up and notices Jake's parents standing behind them. She goes over and hugs both of them.
"Congrats Charley. You too Noah." Jake's father, Roger, smiles.
"Thanks, and I'm sorry about Jake." Jake's mother, Lisa, pulls Charley into another hug as they both begin to tear up.
"He would be so proud of you. His funeral is next week, will you come? And would you speak? Please."
"Of course." Charley agrees. They say their goodbyes and Charley and her family make their way home. Charley and Noah drop their bags in their rooms and collapse on their bed in exhaustion. Charley just needs a good rest. She sends Abby a quick text saying she made it home and was going to take a nap. Her phone buzzes and she assumes it's Abby but it turns out to be Jon.
From: Jon
Hey babe, I hope you got home alright. I know you're probably tired, but I just wanted to say congrats again on making the team and I'm so proud of you. Text me when you can and we'll see if we can get you out to Winnipeg. Miss you! :)
Charley couldn't help but feel her heart flutter. She was about to reply but exhaustion came over her and she feel into a deep sleep.
