not like them. (connor mcdavid love story)

chapter one.

"So kid, it's your first day covering sports, are you excited?" Alisa, my best friend said as she sipped her coffee.

I was working for the biggest radio station in Edmonton and I was in charge of covering the pre season game for the Edmonton Oilers. I wasn't to much of a big sports fan but all my job was to ask fans if they were excited for the games and try to promote the radio station.

"Yeah, I mean, I don't really follow with sports and I clearly don't know the sayings and all so I hope I don't fuck anything up. But who knows, all I'm doing is talking to fans and all!" I said sipping my own coffee nervously.

"Well, Marc is there to help you out and if you want, I can buy a ticket and sit with you if you need the support!" Alisa said smiling at me.

"Can you? Marc would totally be okay with it. I just need someone that isn't Marc for moral support!" I begged her.

Alisa giggled, "For you, yes. Plus I had nothing to do after this so I'll just pretend like I did have something planned."

"YOU ARE THE BEST! But honestly, if you want to come with, we gotta go now because I know you take 70 years with your make up and Angela would kill me if I was late and it wasn't my fault!" I said laughing.

Alisa and I got up from the table and walked out of the cafe. It was breezy September day and I knew that my summer clothes were officially going into the closet today.

The two of us got to our shared apartment and I hopped into the shower first. Knowing I would be faster than Alisa, I took a five minute shower and immediately got out before it got to late and Alisa would make us late.

I looked in the closet and realized I had nothing to wear. I kind of forgot that Marc had told me I needed jersey to wear and like an idiot, I put it off and never ended up buying it.

"Alisa, I'll be back! I have to run to the store really quickly!" I shouted from the other side of the door and left.

I got into the car and speed off to the nearest sports store I could find. I swear, putting things off until the last minute was a disease. I would have a habit of putting things off until the last minute and it always ended up biting me in the ass.

I ran into the store and quickly ran to the hockey section. I mean, it was Canada, it wasn't that hard compared to America where you never found a single hockey thing.

This was one of the times where I wish I kind of watched hockey. I didn't know who anyone was and I was pretty much clueless. Looking through everything, I realized it didn't matter who I got as long as I had a jersey.

I picked it up and ran to the cashier. He seemed like he knew I was in a hurry so he quickly scanned my things and let me go without question.

As soon as I got outside, I realized I had a few minutes to spare so I put the jersey on and looked at myself through the glass of one of the stores. I didn't really care who the person on the jersey was but I knew Alisa would know.

"Are you a McDavid fan?" I heard someone say behind me.

I yelped and turned around quickly.

"Uh, sure? No, not really. I mean, I don't know who he is," I said as I tried to stop my heart from leaving my chest.

"You don't watch hockey?" He asked me a little surprised.

"No. I don't really care for sports but I need the jersey for work today so I bought the first one I seen," I said laughing awkwardly.

"You got a good one. I mean, I think he is a decent player but I think thats for the fans to interpret. Where do you work if you don't mine me asking?" He told me as he sat down on the bench and tied his shoe.

I sat down next to him, "Good. I wouldn't want a bad player! But I work for the local radio station here. I'm covering the Edmonton Oilers pre season games! It was nice talking to you though! I'm Natasha Gonzalez by the way!"

He smiled as he got up from the bench, "I'm Connor, nice to meet you too!"

I smiled before I started to walk away, "Maybe I'll run into you some day again!"

"Trust me, we will," He said before walking into his own car and driving away.

I wonder what the hell he meant by that? But as soon as I looked down at the car, I quickly got out of the parking lot and sped towards the apartment. See, I told you procrastination was a fucking disease.
