Barefoot Blue Jean Night

Chapter 2

Today was the day.

I was finally going to meet Tyler’s teammates. It was beyond nerve wracking. I kept trying to tell myself that it wasn’t as big of a deal as I was making it out to be. These are his friends and I should be glad that he wants me to meet them.

The only reason Tyler and I waited so long to meet each other’s friends was because of the age difference. Most people aren’t as accepting as they think they are. A couple of my friends thought the only reason he is with me is because of the money I make. This is because I hadn’t exactly told them who he was.

I also know people on his side may think I am with him for his money. This is not the case in either situation, as we both make more than enough money to support ourselves.

Tyler grabbed my hand and held it over the console. We were driving on our way to his game.
“Honestly, babe, I love you and that’s all that matters.”

We stopped at a red light and he looked over at me. He pulled my hand up to kiss my forehand.

“I’m more nervous about the women. Teammates I can handle. Boys have always been my forte.” I smiled slyly at him.

“Yeah, just don’t get any ideas,” he laughed. “And as for the women, the wives are super nice and the kids are super adorable. The girlfriends of some of the guys you can ignore. They’re only there for the money, it’s not hard to tell.”

I scoffed. “Gee, that makes me feel so much better about meting them all, Tyler.”

He pulled into the players’ parking lot and set the car in park.

“Okay, let me rephrase that. Get to know everyone, but if someone throws you off a little, don’t worry about them.” Tyler leaned in and gave me a soft peck on the lips.

He hopped out of the car and came around to open the door for me.

“Thanks, hunny.” I laughed.
“No problem, darling.” He laughed along with me as we walked hand in hand towards the entrance.

There quite a few fans waiting outside tonight. Tyler squeezed my hand. I looked over at him and I could see his smile grow at the fans that had their marker ready for him to sign. His fans always made him so happy. He started signing and taking pictures with everyone.

“Tyler!” I heard a little voice say. I looked over to see a boy about 6 trying to get Tyler’s attention to sign a picture, that from what I could tell was from the Plymouth Whalers.
“Tyler!” he tried again.
Tyler had yet to notice the little boy. I walked over and smiled at the boy’s father.

“Hi, I’m Lauren, Tyler’s girlfriend.” I smiled and held out my hand.
He took my hand and shook it.
“I’m Steven and this is my son Mason.”

I looked down at the boy and slowly bent down so I was eye level with him.
“Hey buddy. My name is Lauren. I saw you had a picture that you wanted Tyler to sign. Are you a fan of his?”

The boy grinned up at me and shook his head.
“Would you like to come meet Tyler?”

His grin grew bigger as he jumped up and down. “Yes, please!”
His father and I shared a laugh. I motioned with my hand that I would be one minute.

I proceeded to walk over towards Tyler. “Hey, Ty?”
“Yeah, babe?” He looked over at me.
Some of the younger girls in the mix began to make awing noises at his response. We both grinned at each other. There was no denying that we were a couple now.

“There’s a young boy named Mason that you’ve somehow missed. He is a huge fan. Can you come over and sign his picture for him?”

Tyler just looked at me for a minute, then proceeded to give me that thousand watt smile.
“Of course.”

He grabbed my hand as i guided him over to the little boy.
“Mason, this is Tyler. Tyler, this is Mason, you’re biggest fan.”

Tyler smiled at the boy. Mason turned his head in shyness and looked at his father.
“Go on, buddy. You know who that is. Say hi and ask him if you can take a picture and if he can sign something for you.” Steven said.

Mason looked over at Tyler and gave him a shy smile.
“What my daddy said.”

We all laughed and gave smiles and pats on the head to Mason.
“Sure, buddy.”

That smile is what made me fall in love with Tyler. That and he was fantastic with kids. But it did sort of come with the territory. I watched Tyler pick up Mason and hold him on his hip. He turned around and smiled at me, handing me the camera.

"Say, 'Tyler Seguin rocks!' on the count of three."

Tyler gave a small laugh but repeated it nonetheless. I took the picture and handed the camera back to Steve.

I took a piece of paper out of my purse and wrote down my number.
“Here’s my number. Give me a call when Mason has some games and maybe I can come and maybe get some of the guys to come and watch.”

Steve looked a little shocked.
“Wow, thank you so much. I definitely will.”

Tyler grabbed my hand and I smiled at him. Together we walked towards the door of the arena.
