Day off Work

Kaitlyn unbuckled Braydon from his car seat, as she parked in the visitor parking at Patrick’s apartment complex, and placed him on her hip before making her way out of the parking garage. Upon walking up to the door, she noticed her favorite door man. He knew who she was because she had been coming over more recently to help Patrick get ready for her wedding that is coming up.

“Morning Danny,” she grinned at the older man in front of her.

“Good morning, Miss,” Danny smiled back. “Here to see Mr. Kane?”

“Mane!” Braydon giggled with excitement hearing his favorite uncle’s name.

“Not exactly,” her smile grew, as her son made a noise of protest hearing he was not going to see his favorite person in the world. “Were you working last night?”

“Yes ma’am, I am working a double right now, the next doorman should be in an hour, why do you ask?” He glanced at the young mother with confusion.

“Did you see the woman that Mr. Kane came in with?” Kaitlyn bit her lip, knowing he does not like to give this information away. “I understand if you can’t give out that information, but she does live here, and I am just trying to help Patrick out with finding out who his mystery woman was last night. She kind of intrigued him.”

“I’m sorry, Miss,” Danny sighed. “But I didn’t see the woman he walked in with. Do you know what she had looked like?”

She opened her mouth to respond, only to be cut off by someone shouting her name, “Katie!” She turned to find Patrick walking towards her, giving her a confused look. “What are you doing here?”

“Mane!” Braydon giggled, reaching for his uncle.

“Good!” Kaitlyn exclaimed, handing over her son. Patrick took ahold of his favorite little guy, giving him a great big hug. “Pat, tell Danny here what that woman you met last night looks like.”

Patrick looked at the grinning red head in front of him and sighed. “No.”

“What?” She gasped, frowning.

“We’re not doing this, Kaitlyn,” he sighed again, waving bye to Danny, before steering her away and towards the door.

“But Patrick!’ She whined, making her son laugh at her. Kaitlyn began looking around the main lobby. “Why not?”

“Because I said so, that’s why,” he continued to guide her towards the door, as she glanced around still.

“Is that her?” Patrick followed her finger that pointed behind her, to see an elderly woman come out of the elevator.

“She’s like, eighty, Katie!” He laughed, shaking his head.

“Not her,” she sighed, point again towards the stairs.

He turned toward the stairs to find a young blonde girl come through the door. He shook his head no, giving Kaitlyn her answer, and making her stop because it was still not the woman she was pointing to. Sure, he thought she was hot, but it did not compare to the woman he saw last night. Blondes are his typical go to, but he could not get this brunette out of his head. So much so, he had to take a cold shower this morning because of the dream he had last night of her. He thought back to his dream, but had to stop himself before he got too excited. Walking out of the door, he guided them back to the parking garage so he could get Kaitlyn to drive him to his morning practice before his game tonight.

Evelyn made her way down the stairs and through to door in her gym outfit. As she exited the door, she noticed a curly blonde-haired man carrying a dark-haired child on his hip, pushing a woman who pointed right at her outside the door. She noticed that the man who turned around to look where the woman pointed to be Patrick Kane, but he looked over at the blonde girl who walked out before her. Watching as Patrick pushed the red-haired woman out of the door, who huffed in disappointment, making her more confused on what was going on.

“Good morning, Miss,” Danny greeted her with an amused smile, who just finished watching the same scene of the young hockey player pushing out the upset woman.

“Do you know what that was about?” Evelyn giggled, nodding to receding form of Patrick.

“It seemed that, Miss Burish came in here to help Mr. Kane find the girl he came home with last night,” he elderly man shrugged his shoulders, taking the piece of mail out of her hands.

She looked up at him even more confused, because she had been the woman he came home with last night, but why would Jonathan Toews’ soon to be wife be looking for her. That question repeated through her head. Taking her new mail, she wondered the answer to that question as she made her way over to the in-house gym. Noticing that no one was in the gym at this hour, she had the pick of any machine, which she quickly chose the treadmill. As she got the treadmill, she started with a slow walking pace, while she put her phone into the cup holder on the machine and placed her earbuds into her ear. Blaring Avenged Sevenfold, she began to pick up a faster walking pace. As she got up to her run, she noticed her phone ringing with her boss’ name flashing across the screen.

“Hello,” she gasped for breaths as she lowers the speed of the treadmill to a medium pace walk.

“Evelyn, are you okay?” Julia questioned, hearing her gasp for breaths.

“Yeah,” Evelyn slowed her breathing slightly. “I was just working out.”

“Well sorry to disturb on your day off and your workout, but Naomi called out for her coverage of the Blackhawks game tonight and I was wondering if you could fill in for me.”

“Fill in how? You know I am not a huge sports fan and I am normally behind the desk.” Evelyn stepped off the machine and wiped her forehead with her towel.

“I know,” her boss sighed. “But I need you tonight and all you will be doing is on screen interviews with the coaches and players, before, during, and after the game.”

“Sure, I have no problem with that.”

“Oh thank you, Eve!” Julia exclaimed, excited that she finally found someone who was willing to fill in. “I defiantly owe you one. Be in the office in about thirty please, so I can brief you more.”

“Yeah,” Evelyn laughed. “You really do and I will be there soon, just let me shower first.” Evelyn hung up her phone and quickly made her way up to her apartment to get ready for work.
