"Beware Of Green"

Back in Brandon, Kale and Reid are sitting at the dining table once again. Kale is holding his head in his hands with a sorrowful look. Next to him, Reid is helping himself to a bowl of ice cream.

“Do you think I’ll ever make it to the Kings’ roster?” Kale mumbles at the table.

Reid takes in a spoonful of ice cream. “I dunno.” He swallows. “I ask myself the same thing with the Golden Knights.” He then scrapes the walls of the bowl to gather more of the dessert into his spoon.

“But you’re in their organization.” He flicks his eyes to his friend. “I got transferred back to Brandon.”

Reid drops his spoon into the bowl and turns to him. “That’s because I’m old. You’re not even twenty. Now, if you were my age, then yeah, you’ll be in the AHL with me!” He gives him a big closed smile.

Kale’s eyes widen with hope. “Or maybe in the NHL…!”

“Yeah…” Reid reverts back to his ice cream. “Who knows?” He takes another spoonful of it.

“Pat’s lucky,” Kale continues on flatly. “He gets to go straight into the NHL.”

Reid swallows with a scrutinizing expression. “I wouldn’t call Pat ‘lucky’ per se—” He gazes at his friends. “He got his body stolen and possessed by his mortal enemy, remember?”

Kale nods slowly as he processes the truth. “Right…”

“I wouldn’t count you guys lucky as well,” Carter’s voice is heard saying from their left.

With shock written all over their faces at the unexpected statement, the two whirl to face the living room.

Standing in front of the door is Nolan, who has a sick smirk etched on his face.

Reid instantly jumps to his feet as he tosses his ice cream on the dining table and materializes his two swords into view. He holds them across his chest in a cross-shaped fashion.

Kale brings his wrist, which bears his Wrist-Moto, to his mouth with wide eyes at the intruder. “He’s here!” he whispers into it.

Instantly, Nolan throws his hands out in front of him and unleashes a torrent of green magical energy.

Reid flings his forearm in front of him, causing his two swords to disintegrate into a golden mist. A black and golden heater shield assembles itself on his forearm in front of him.

The energy strikes the shield, spewing green and white bright sparks in all directions.

Reid pushes all of his force forward, fighting off the pressure attempting to push him off balance.

Suddenly, the pressure is lifted, bringing relief to the knight.

With surprise, Reid relaxes his stance and brings his shielded arm down. His peers ahead of him at Nolan; his eyes widen at his sight.

Behind him, Kale peers forward to see the source of Nolan’s unexpected stoppage of his attack. He shares the same expression as his friend.

Nolan is now lying on the living room floor with a disgruntled expression. Keeping him from moving is Jake, who is kneeling on top of him with his wrists in his firm grasp.

A bright blue arrow with a ribbon attached to it then springs into the air and wraps itself around Nolan’s wrists.

From Nolan’s left side, Kailer yanks at the other end of the ribbon with his bow in his hands, making sure it is tightly winded around his target’s wrists.

“We have captured him!” Kailer proudly announces.

On the other side of Nolan, Brett roughly grabs Nolan’s arms and pulls him up to his feet. He yanks him closer to him, sticking his face into his with narrowed eyes and bared teeth.

“Game over, Hart,” he growls at him.

Nolan slyly tilts his chin at him with a smug smile. “Don’t mind me as I put in another twenty-five cents to restart it.”

Suddenly, he expands his chest and a wave of green energy blasts from all around his torso, throwing everyone in its radius off their feet and engulfing the room in the bright green and white energy.

The energy then slowly recedes, bringing the room back to its normal homely lighting. The five teenagers are scattered in the living room and dining room, lying on the ground.

On the living room floor, Kailer gradually peels himself from the hard floor and rises to his feet. He gazes around the still surroundings, surprised at the absence of Nolan.

“Blinkin’ knickers…,” he murmurs to himself.

Jake instantly pops up to his feet from the foot of the staircase. His eyes widen at Brett, who is slumped against the wall by the front door. “Brett!”

With haste, he rushes up to him and slides down next to him, scooping him into a hug.

Brett’s eyes flutter open at the warm embrace. “My hair…!” He pats his perfect wavy hair in hopes it is not dishevelled.

Reid uses the dining table to help himself get up on his feet. He stares in awe at the empty space Nolan used to occupy. “Wow, he left so quick.”

“At least he didn’t take any of us,” Kale points out, standing up from the other side of the dining table.

“We must’ve frightened him,” Kailer guesses, dusting his sleeves his pants. “He didn’t anticipate these many people opposed to him.” He then gazes at his team with a proud smile. “I am pleased with our element of surprise, even though it didn’t last for a while.”

Brett climbs to his feet with Jake’s aid. “But now the surprise is ruined because he knows that all five of us are against him!”

“No,” Kale snaps, causing everyone’s attention to turn to him. “Four.”

The four power players peer at him in utter confusion.

“Duker and I can merge.”

Reid gasps at the reminder of the hidden power. He excitedly whirls around to his merging companion. “Oh yeah!”

“I’ll be darned, you’re right!” Kailer exclaims with hope. “I do recall that!”

“Why didn’t you say that before?” Brett frowns at him with displeasure.

Kale shrugs with uneasiness. “I just wanted to see how it went with more men. But I guess what we really need is more power.” He peers at Reid. “And us merging can definitely deliver that.”

Kailer steps up to him and places his hand on his shoulder. “Do that next time, please.”

Kale turns to his roommate. “Duker?”

“Yeah!” Reid gives him a large, closed smile.

“Awesome.” Kale turns back to the small skater. “We’ll definitely do that!”

Jake walks to the three with concern. “Are all you guys alright?”

Brett steps up to him from behind and places his hand on his shoulder. “Yes, Jake Dog, we’re fine.” He pats it.

With a warm, content smile, Jake places his head on his bestie’s shoulder. Brett looks at him with a hint of worry.

“Well,” Kailer starts off, looking at each power player, “I suppose we shall depart. Next time he attacks, we come in by surprise!”

Brett narrows his eyes at him. “But he already knows—”

He flicks his hand at him. “But he doesn’t know when.”

“Ah, yeah, true.” Brett gives a quick wave to the two roommates. “Alright, good night, guys!” He then nudges Jake, causing him to straighten himself up.

The three then begin nearing the front door.

Kale returns his wave. “Good night, Flame Wave.”

“‘Night, Brett,” Reid calls out.

Jake waves at the two excitedly. “Bye-bye!”

Kailer halts by the front door with the besties stopping with him. “So long, Clague and Duke.”

With that, the three vanish in a flash of blue energy.

Now it is just Kale and Reid in the house all alone once again.

Kale turns to him. “I guess we should go to bed now.”

Reid lets out a weary groan, running his hands down his face. “I can’t tell if I’m pooped or frightened…”
