"Beware Of Green"

The skies are blue streaked with white clouds as the afternoon sun shines down on the Keystone Centre’s players’ parking lot. Strolling down the asphalt is Kale, who has his head down with his hands in his hoodie’s pockets.

His mind is swirling about in all the possible outcomes of his friend and the countless ways to save him, all with a minimal chance to succeed: We can fight him right now, merged, but we need to practice. And what if Carter has something more potent than us up his sleeve? He’s unpredictable—the last thing I want is to be severely injured. But we gotta save Pat, especially before the regular season starts; he’s our friend, he’s counting on us...wherever he is—

Kale’s heart instantly lurches as he feels the top half of his sole dip down through mere air.

“WHOA!” He stumbles back forcefully to avoid plummeting, flailing his hands in the air to gain his balance.

Kale comes to a halt and stands still with eyes as wide as pucks blankly ahead of him, completely terrified. He manages to force out between his heavy breathing, “What was that?”

He gazes ahead of him, spotting the beautiful view of the flat metropolitan lands of Brandon stretching miles and miles away toward the horizon.

He knits his eyebrows at the high view in confusion. “What?” He snaps his eyes down, noticing the edge on the ground he is standing on.

He slowly steps up to the edge with rising trepidation. Once standing near it, he peers down.

Staring down below is the players’ parking lot from an alarming height.

Kale’s mouth turns into an “o” as he mentally makes the connection of his location. “Oookay…” He straightens up and gazes at his surroundings by moving only his head. “...how did I get up here—?”

“By me.”

Kale’s eyes immediately fly open at Nolan’s voice. He whirls around, away from the edge, to face the direction of the voice.

Standing a couple feet away from him toward the middle of the arena’s roof is Nolan. He has a heroic stance with confidence, which accompanies well with his business attire.

Kale gazes at the appearance of his friend in hope. His face then falls as the mental fact of the truth pops into his mind.

With resolve overcoming his face, Kale raises his Wrist-Moto-cladded wrist into view and holds it up to his mouth. “He’s here at the arena—!”

PING!

Kale’s raised arm immediately flies back due to a fizzing force throwing it away from his face.

His Wrist-Moto’s band snaps and launches from his wrist before plunging over the edge, downward through the air, and out of view.

With a wild look, Kale whirls his head back to the skater.

He spots him in his same place, yet his hands are now glowing green with magical energy.

“I don’t need you calling your friends to make things more difficult,” Nolan brusquely tells him, “although I can batter them in a heartbeat—!”

BLAM!

Nolan’s clear eyes instantly fly open as he stiffens.

Kale’s jaw drops at the aftermath of the noise.

Borne on Nolan’s chest is a clear-cut hole with smoking curling out from it.

Standing directly behind the skater is the gunman himself: Brett, in his armour suit, has his gun-cladded hand aimed at his shot target.

“Back away…,” Brett growls.

Nolan nonchalantly turns around as the hole closes itself up with its edges burning green.

A subtle expression of surprise appears on Brett’s face while witnessing his work being undone.

The skater gazes at the suited teenager with a stern expression. “I advise you to do the same.” He then throws his hands out at him and unleashes a torrent of green energy straight at him.

Brett instantly swings his forearm in front of him as a shield assembles itself in front of it.

The energy clashes against the metallic surface, spewing green sparks in all directions. It then travels in slim ribbons through and around his shield and weaves itself in and out of the suit like electricity.

Suddenly, Brett senses his mental connection to the suit being severed, losing the secure control over it. Yet he ignores the feeling and keeps all of his focus on the rushing energy

He then feels his suits weighing down on him as if gravity began pressing down on him. He conjures his raw strength to continue standing against the pressure of the magical energy, yet his suit continues building its weight against him. He bends lower, his shielded-arm turning downward, as his whole body is shaking under the force.

Then he lets out a cry as the weight collapses on him: “ARUGH!”

The green torrent vanishes, including the last bit of green whizzing around his suit.

Brett tumbles to his side, crashing onto the hard surface of the roof. With a grunt, he attempts to push himself back on his knees, but the weight of the suit keeps him down.

“Ugh!” He exerts his strength upward as he tries to push himself with his arms. “I can’t move!” He relaxes his arms, causing him to gently plop himself on the floor. “My suit’s dead!”

With a flash of fury, Kale whirls to Nolan and whips out a sharp metallic wheat stalk.

“ARUGH!!!” He charges at him with his weapon held over his shoulder, ready to strike him.

Yet before he has a chance to physically attack, Nolan is taken down by another power player.

Lying on his back, Nolan snaps his eyes up with surprise to see who knocked him off his feet.

Kneeling above him with a menacing expression is Jake. He instantly swings a fist at him.

Nolan takes the blow, yet immediately strikes back by blasting a stream of energy straight at his opponent.

Jake is thrown into the air and across the roof before landing harshly on the other side with a pathetic squeak.

Kale gasps at his tossed society member. “Jake!”

Suddenly, a glowing, blue arrow shoots out of nowhere from behind Kale. The arrow whizzes straight at Nolan, who has already pulled himself onto his feet once again.

Nolan simply slices his green-coated hand through the airborne arrow, quickly dissolving it into harmless blue sparks.

The owner of the arrow, who is standing by the edge of the roof behind Kale, has his eyes fly open with shock. He immediately vanishes in a flash of blue energy.

Kailer reappears in the same manner behind Nolan and launches another arrow at him.

Nolan disappears in a streak of green energy just as the arrow flies through his place and straight at the defenceman standing directly its path.

“WATCH OUT!”

Kale instantly feels someone throw himself against him, bringing the two against the hard, rough surface.

The arrow innocently flies above them and out of view.

Kale, who is lying on his back, turns to his left, spotting Reid sitting up. “Duker!”

Reid whirls to him with haste. “Get up!” He climbs to his feet then holds his friend’s two hands to help him up to his feet.

He then lets go of him and materializes his golden and white-coloured sword with a rotation of his wrist.

Kale stands next to him as the two keenly watch Kailer and Nolan teleportation in various areas of the roof with beautiful slices of pure blue and vibrant green energy. Each time Kailer appears, he launches an arrow at Nolan’s direction, yet Nolan would always vanish just as the arrow nears him.

Kale conjures his metallic wheat stalk and holds it up by his ear. His eyes are on Nolan, flicking them all directions as Nolan teleports to different areas of the roof with Kailer.

Reid is doing the same motions, following his swift target with his eyes as his sword is held by his side.

“They’re like flies!” he huffs out, not tearing his eyes away.

“I’m scared I might hit Doc instead!” Kale cries out.

Next to them, Kailer vanishes in a flash of blue energy at the same time as Nolan. He then reappears in the same fashion on the other side of the arena.

Suddenly, Nolan appears behind him and instantly throws his hands out at his back, releasing swift, green misty energy.

The energy wraps itself around Kailer in swift motion, a like a tornado. Kailer covers his head with his arms for protection against the swirling, sparkling energy before stumbling onto the ground. The energy drifts away from him in delicate ribbons of green smoke, leaving him still on the cold surface.

Brett, who is lying feet away from him, creates an enraged look on his face. “DANG IT!!!” He writhes violently against his heavy suit in a fruitless attempt to be released.

Kale’s eyes fly open at the sight of the fallen leader as he throws his free hand out toward him. “Doc—!”

Immediately, a green, magical ribbon is thrust straight at Kale’s hand and wraps itself around it, shooting sharp sensations through his palm and up his arm.

“ARUGH!” Kale collapses onto his knees as the stinging pain courses around his palm and up his inner forearm.

Another ribbon of green energy appears in the same manner and slings itself around Kale’s hand occupied with the metallic stalk.

“GAH!” Kale dips his head down, his hair hanging down and covering his face, as he tenses his face in pain.

His occupied hand agonizingly glows green, accumulating whiteness around his stalk. His stalk then disintegrates into white, harmless sparks, which drift away.

“OOF!”

Reid falls onto his knees next to Kale and hunches over his legs in affliction. His upright hands on his thighs are also covered with the same green energy. His sword burns white then dissolves into glowing dust.

A shadow approaches them, blanketing the space in between them.

“Finally, I got Nolan’s beloved friends,” Nolan tells them firmly with a subtle smirk. “You guys did share some great times together, eh?”

All Kale could respond was with a grunt due to the acute pain cutting through his palms.

He clasps his hands behind his back. “I’m giving you guys the special treatment just because you’re so close to Pat...and you know my secret too well.” He balls his hands by his side, leaning downward toward them. “And I am not going to throw all this away by letting your big mouths rip my new life apart!”

The two friends stay still in their silent fight of thwarting off the sharp sensation in their glowing hands.

Nolan then straightens up with a refreshed look of pride. “You can attempt to conjure powers to ‘battle’ against me, but with my magic around them, they’ll instantly be cut.”

Kale slightly opens his eyes to take a glance at his energized hands.

The green energy is popping in his hands, fully alive. The agonizing sensation still thrives beneath, spiking up with each pop of a spark of energy.

“And you know what’s the worse feeling to have?” Nolan finishes off with a lowered voice. “When you know you have the powers to save yourself...yet can’t use them for that exact purpose.”

Reid swallows with worry.

Nolan quickly regains his confident composure. “I’ll let you guys experience that yourself.” He then extends his hands out toward them.

Suddenly, a rush of force speeds at the two friends, hurling off from the surface, across the roof, and into the air. The force then vanishes, leaving them to plummet parallel to the building.

Kale feels the shift of gravity as he is plunging through the deep air. The chilled air whips around him mercilessly, fluttering his clothes and air. With no assurance or stability of the ground, he feels his insides lurching.

His mind is bubbling with panic, his eyes as wide as pucks, his memory reeling all the things he took for granted, his heart slamming against his chest, the freeing, yet trepid sensation of being weightless utterly evident, his eyes squeezing close due to the harrowing fate, his mind screaming out for one last chance.

A warm sensation then blossoms from his fingertips and down to his palm.

His slowly opens eyes, keeping them narrowed due to the wind.

Up above him, he spots Reid’s back facing him. Yet his outstretched hand is glowing a pure white as Reid’s back is sharing the same energy, being concentrated near his fingers.

A sense of comfort dawns on Kale as he feels the smooth, supernatural sensation open up in his chest. He dips his head down, catching a glance at his chest, which is glowing the same white.

With a string of hope, he pushes his hands against the motion of gravity and reaches them out to Reid.

The white energy begins stretching down on Kale’s hands and arms, covering them in its pure whiteness. Reid’s back also shares in the energy with the energy building it up from it and extending itself across it.

Kale eyes the energy as he feels his hands coated in its powerful, surging sensation. His mind focuses on the mesmerizing whiteness in an attempt for the energy to accumulate faster with the fear of hitting the ground too soon.

The energy quickens its expansion pace, now almost covering all of Reid’s back and Kale’s upper arms. Its brightness intensifies until it whites out Kale’s sight, causing him to close his eyes again.

He senses the force of the plunge spinning himself in the air as the powerful surge courses through his body with a warm sensation. He squeezes his eyes, grits his teeth, and tenses himself for his most possible fate.

Yet he does not feel the blunt impact of the asphalt.

Instead, he feels the calm, smooth air around him.

The stillness of the atmosphere.

The peace of the scenery.

With confusion, Kale blinks his eyes open, revealing them to now bear the same cerulean colour as his merging companion. His eyes widen at the sight.

He is now floating gently down in an afternoon sky. The skies are pure blue, the clouds drift by him, the sun’s rays pouring their warmth on him.

“We merged,” he hears Reid say in his mind. “I put us through a portal because we were too close to the ground to lift off.”

Kale’s eyes light up at the reality of the plummet. Yet he mentally places his intention on the continuation of the battle. “Can we lift off now?”

“Oh yeah.”

With that, Kale is guided by the potent surge within him to straighten himself, looking up at the top of the sky. Looming above him is the clean-cut, circular portal he fell through; being displayed on its other side is a worm’s-eye view of the arena.

He snaps his arms down to his side, his palms facing below him.

Instantly, a portal displaying grey clouds materializes smoothly below his feet. Wind blasts out from the portal and against his feet, propelling himself into flight and through the sky.

He speeds through the portal, sensing a dramatic shift of atmosphere from warm and relaxed to cool and tight.

Kale rushes parallel to the arena then steadily slows down his movements as he slides above the edge of the arena’s roof. His eyes automatically land on Nolan, who has his back facing him while strutting away.

He watches Nolan halt in his tracks, appearing frozen.

The skater then whirls around and takes in the sight of the defenceman majestically hovering on the other side of the edge.

He stares at him with fright. “What—?”

“Thanks for the experience,” Kale cuts in cooly. He then smoothly holds his palms over his head and pulls them apart from each other toward his side.

As his palms move in the circular motion, a portal filled with variant shades of red is materialized in front of him.

He then pushes his palms against the portal, unleashing a torrent of flames from it.

Nolan instantly flicks his glowing hand at it, dissolving it and its fire with a slice of green energy.

Kale reenacts the circular motions with his arms again then pushes them upward, creating a portal of bubbling red above his target. He then hurls them downward, bringing along a stream of vibrantly red lava.

Nolan swiftly materializes a green force field around him and holds his hands above his head for maximum support. The smouldering lava hits it, vibrating it as the parts of the force field it makes contact with pulses white.

Noticing that the attack tactic is not working, Kale briskly closes the portal with a clap of his hands over his head. He then creates a pitch black portal with the circular motion of his arms and then throws his arms in an underarm fashion.

The portal disappears from his arms and reappears under Nolan’s feet inside the force field. Nolan instantly drops through the black portal and out of sight, causing his force field to flicker away.

Kale smiles at the empty sight his target was just standing on. “Hey, nice move—”

“OH NO!!!” he hears Reid scream mentally.

Kale instantly whirls around, creates a portal of metal in his grasp, and slams it against Nolan, who has teleported behind him.

Nolan twirls backward in the air due to the impact and then teleports in a flash of green energy.

Kale smoothly spins back around to face the roof of the arena. Sure enough, Nolan is back standing on it with a look of dark resolve on his face.

Kale conjures a portal of vibrant yellow energy and pushes his hands against it, releasing its powerful blast.

Smooth, green panels of energy build up around Nolan, encasing him in an ergokinetic armour with the shape of a grizzly bear.

The yellow blast strikes the ergokinetic surface, immediately dissolving into embers of energy.

Nolan pulls his hand back, guiding his larger outline of a bear to do the same with its thick arm. He then swings his hand across him. His thick, furry outline swings its arm down as well, swiping its massive ergokinetic paw at the defenceman.

Kale instantly sucks himself into a portal he conjures behind him just as the paw flies through his path. The same portal appears inches from its disappearance, releasing Kale from it.

Kale then reaches out behind him to grab that same portal and hurls it like a flying disc at Nolan.

Nolan slams his ergokinetic paw against it, dispersing it into sparkles of energy.

With a growl of frustration at having his various attacks countered, Kale conjures a portal in each hand and smashes them against each other as if they are cymbals.

Right on contact, a torrent of white energy explodes from them, heading straight at his target.

Nolan briskly lunges with his massive outline over the rushing stream and flies toward Kale due to the force of his leap.

With wide eyes and a yelp, Kale swings his portal-occupied hands over him, letting himself be engulfed by them and becoming out of sight.

Nolan lands in his empty spot on his hands and feet. He then straightens up and whirls around, spotting the two portals reappear with Kale becoming visible from them.

Nolan narrows his eyes at his enemy, mentally tapping into his magic to sense the amount of power being held inside his target: Kale’s surge is bubbling with potent energy, coursing through his body in vigorous motions; it is the equivalent to the power of one who discovered their super form. That is the power of merging.

“It’s just as much as my power,” Nolan murmurs under his breath. “To take away their power forever…I need to gather all of my power...”

With a deep inhale, he closes his eyes and holds his hands out from his sides.

His exoskeleton begins to dissolve into small embers of green and white energy, freeing himself from the case. The energy swirls around him as it picks up in speed, lifting him off from the surface and hover his feet above the roof. His hair gracefully flutters to the energy’s wind.

Kale stands from his place, watching movements of the magical energy with inquiry and bewilderment.

Nolan slowly moves his hands above his head, holding them upward with their palms facing each other. The glowing particles majestically drift around him and collect in the space between his palms.

More energy sparks accumulate between his palms, creating a glowing ball of blinding white energy that is outlined with a pulsing green glow. His whole body begins radiating soft green with glistening embers and misty ribbons of green energy swirling around him.

Nolan then flicks his eyes open: They are now white once again outlined with the same, subtle green.

Then with a flick of his wrists above him, a thick, potent streak of green energy blasts from between his hands and straight at Kale.

Instantly, Kale conjures a portal of the sky around him and holds it out to the streak. The powerful energy dives into the portal with force, causing him to exert his strength against it.

Kale then flicks his eyes at the scenery behind Nolan and senses the course of his pure power concentrated on that area. He narrows his eyes with a tense expression, attempting to mentally grab hold of the intangible area without any hand guidance. Yet his mental grasp kept slipping.

The streak continues gushing through his portal, giving him the constant struggle of keeping it open and steady. Kale’s hands begin shaking due to the pressure and the acute power surging through him. His eyes are glued on the area, but not his supernatural grasp.

With a loud cry, Kale gathers extra strength to his left hand and removes his right hand from the portal’s grasp, letting a single hand take on the same pressure.

He then throws his free hand out at the area, sensing his surge shooting through his hand and seamlessly connecting with the area of intent.

Instantly, a portal displaying his real-time self is cut out from the scenery behind Nolan just as the same current of energy springs out from the opening and strikes the person in its path.

BLAM!!!

Massive waves of energy fly out in all directions from the point of contact, deluging the whole energy in pure whiteness.

After a few moments, the whiteness fades off, bringing back the clarity of the scenery.

Lying on the rough surface of the roof is Kale. He is peacefully on his side with his eyes closed as embers of white and green energy softly drift around him like snow.

He senses his surge within him decrease in pressure and intensity, now calming down to a smooth pace. Once he gathers the energy to do so, he flickers his cerulean-coloured eyes open.

Right in his sight is Nolan, who is on his back with his dark blond hair spread out on the ground from his head. And right next to him, sprawled out on the roof is Carter himself.

Kale’s eyes fly open at the sight of his friend visibly right beside his enemy. “PAT!” He scrambles up to his feet and rushes over to him.

He kneels next to him with puck-sized eyes on his relaxed face and closed eyes. “Pat! Pat!”

Nolan continues lying still with his eyes closed.

Panic begins growing inside of him. “Pat, wake up!” He vigorously shakes him.

From behind Kale, Brett, who is now in his black under armour clothes, walks up to him and halts behind him. His look of surprised is directed at the Flyer teammates. “Oh, they split! He’s out!”

Jake instantly dashes into view with haste. He covers his mouth with his hands with wide eyes at Nolan. “Oh no, he doesn’t look good!” He drops to his knees next to Kale and places his ear on Nolan’s chest. “He’s still breathing—!”

Suddenly, a soft, glowing orange outline appears around Nolan.

Kale leans back at the supernatural addition with Jake in shock. “Whoa!”

“Step back!” Kailer is heard shouting from behind the two.

Kale and Jake climb to their feet and step back to Brett and Kailer with eyes on Nolan.

The orange-coloured energy outlining Nolan’s body intensifies in colour and radiance. Spirals of energy then pop out from the outline, wrapping around him while picking up wind with its motions.

The energy’s motions quicken in pace, increasing the speed and strength of the wind. With the powerful wind whipping the ribbons of energy around Nolan, Nolan is lifted off from the ground and turns him upright for him to be facing his friends.

Then the wind and energy smoothly pacify as it brings Nolan gently to his feet. Once Nolan’s feet hit the ground, the energy and the breeze succumb, relaxing his hair and clothes.

Nolan flicks his eyes open. They are back to his familiar striking, clear, light blue colour.

Kale gasps happily at the sight of his friend in his normal state. “Pat!”

Nolan peers down at himself, taking in his usual business suit that he is wearing. He peers back at the others with excitement. “I’m back!”

Jake jumps in the air with thrown hands. “Yay!” He then bounds over the skater and scoops him into a big hug.

Kale and Brett follow, joining in on the hug. Kailer slowly steps up to them and gingelly pats Nolan’s shoulder with a cool smile.

In the hug, Kale hears a grunt coming from his feet. He peers down to the direction of the sound.

A few feet away from his feet, Carter is gradually pushing himself up to a standing position.

Kale quickly pulls away from the hug and strides up to the goalie. He flicks his hand at Carter’s wrists, creating two, black, small portals around them and pasting them in the area of air behind Carter.

Carter is automatically flung back on his bottom with his hands stretched above his head. “Hey!” He tugs his arms away from the portals, yet he senses his hands in a tight grip in each of them. “Ugh!” He gazes up at Kale, strands of his dishevelled hair hanging over his face. “What was that for?!”

“For what you did to Pat.” Kale halts by his feet and crosses his arms.

“Well, don’t worry about me, it’s not like I can do it again!”

Brett steps up to Kale and halts next to him. He glowers down at the goalie. “You did it once, you can definitely do it twice!”

“Thanks to your friend’s literal loophole, I CAN’T!” Carter lets out a huff to calm down and then mutters, “My magic’s gone.”

Kale screws up his face in bewilderment. “‘Gone’?” He drops his arms. “Like as in forever?”

“Yes.” The goalie dips his head in embarrassment. “That magic blast was to rip away your merging abilities.” He flicks his eyes up at the two skaters. “But since it struck me instead, it took away my magical abilities.”

Kale and Brett stand in silence as they mentally process what Carter just explained. They exchange each other looks of shock.

Nolan, who is now free from his hug, swaggers to Carter and stands next to Kale. He peers down at Carter. “So the deal’s over?”

Kale instantly turns to his friend with scrunched eyebrows. “What deal?”

Carter holds his breath as he realizes the true outcome of the deal. He exhales. “I guess.” He gazes up at him. “I can’t hold up my side anymore since my magic’s gone.”

Kailer walks up to the group with Jake by his side and stands next to him as the goalie halts next to his bestie.

The small skater has a suspicious look at the defeated goalie. “But your team powers…?”

“I still have them,” Carter explains to him. “But they’re not as half as good as my magic. My magic was my super form and that was hard to tap into...but now it’s burnt out since I was aiming to get rid of enhanced powers, not basic powers.”

Everyone nods their heads in understanding.

Then Kale speaks up: “At least we dealt with you and put an end to all your hoopla.” He holds his hand out toward him. “Now you get to be who you’re really supposed to be.”

Carter gazes at him with confusion. “And what is that?”

“Carter Hart!” Brett blurts out. “Duh!”

“Goalie of the Everett Silvertips,” Kale pipes in.

Brett throws an index finger in the air. “And Team Canada!”

“And a prospect of the Flyers,” Nolan adds in sweetly, stepping closer to him. “Be you.” He kneels next to him, looking meaningfully in his eyes. “Everyone else is taken. And it’s not nice to take over people's own, personal places.”

Carter lets out a huge sigh with sad, downcast eyes. “Okay… But I was so close… I thought I had it…”

With a look of seriousness, Nolan rises back up to his full height. “I’m not going to buy into your pity, but I will tell you that you are you and only you. Make the best out of yourself.” He shrugs with a haughty smirk. “How else did I become so great?”

Kale eyes him with doubt.

The skater peers behind his shoulder due to the vibes he felt from his friend. “It’s true.”

“And no one else here possesses any type of magic or tapped into their super form, so we’re all supernaturally on the same level,” Kailer points out, peering at each power player present.

Brett turns to him. “Oh, you’re gonna need to fix my suit.”

Kailer flicks his hand at him and hisses, “Not now.”

Carter raises an eyebrow at the looming teenagers. “So if you guys think I’m not a threat, let me go.”

Kale silently holds his hand out toward the portals.

Instantly, the portals dissolve, leaving Carter’s hands in the air to have them collapse by his sides.

Carter groans as he rolls his shoulders, rubbing away the soreness of having his arms held up uncomfortably. He then climbs back up to his feet, revealing his full height, which makes him as tall as Nolan.

Kale peers at him with concern. “So you can’t get your magic back?

Carter shakes his head. “I already told you, that beam was for enhanced powers, intended for your merging capabilities. But instead it got to my super form and now it’s gone.” He holds his hand up to his view and has his silver bear claws unsheathed from his fingertips.

He gazes at them depressedly. “But I’ll work with what I got—” He breezes by them, heading away from the edge of the roof.

Nolan turns on his heels to watch him depart from them. “—NOT going after us ever again.”

Carter halts and turns around to face him. “Yeah. What’s the use when I don’t have the magic to get what I want?” With that, he averts his body and continues strolling away from them.

The five power players follow him with their eyes as he nears the exit of the roof on the other side.

Nolan then holds his hand out to him. “Wait!”

The goalie halts in his steps once again and whirls around, spotting the skater rush up to him. He gazes at him with a frown as Nolan halts in front of him.

“I’ll see you in the Flyers one day.” He gives him a bright grin.

Carter keeps his sullen eyes on him. “I hope so.” He then turns around and steps toward the door.

Nolan stands in his place, witnessing their distance grow larger as Carter approaches the door. He then watches the goalie open it and disappear into its small building after closing the door behind him.

The other four power players then approach the forward from behind him.

“Rejoice!” Kailer proclaims, planting himself next to Nolan. “We have succeeded!”

Jake jumps in the air with a large grin with his hands in the air. “Yipee!”

Brett lets out a huff as he halts next to Jake. “Finally! What a relief!”

Kale steps up to Nolan’s other side with a concerned look. “But what deal?”

Nolan rolls his eyes. “No worries, it’s over. How else did I let him get a hold of me like that?”

“Oh…” Kale flicks his eyes away with disturbance. “...uh, okay…”

Kailer places his hands on his hips with a proud look ahead at the magnificent view of Brandon. “Finally, we can focus on hockey.”

Kale’s eyes slowly grow wide as he processes the reason why he is at the arena. “Hockey…”
