The Busy Streets of Queens, New York

A young woman sat alone in a coffee shop. Book in hand, and coffee in reach, she patiently waited for her friend to join her on her down time. The weather was cold but not overbearingly freezing. She comfortably sat at a small table by the order-bar. She was in a navy woolly coat dress with a scarf partially tucked in at the top. A warm gray knitted cap sat on her long blonde hair. She was so wrapped up in her book that she barely noticed the ding from her phone.

"Hey Er, can't make it today. Looks like I'm caught up in design speculation and fabric graphs for my 'off time'. We'll reschedule, promise. Cheers. xx -Felicity"

Erica sighed and glanced at her book. She had already been waiting 20 minutes for her friend. She wasn't surprised, not at all. Felicity had recently began a name for herself after beginning her own clothing line. Her friend and former roommate was constantly busy since starting her life.

As for Erica, her career working with the New York City Football Club media was enjoyable, just very tiring. Today was her one day off for the week because it was the holiday season and she worked in the marketing department, merchandise was constantly being sold. Every now and then she would be able to journalize the team, but it was rare.

She glanced at her surroundings, people bustling around the small and crowded coffee shop. She had lived in New York all of her life, and enjoyed the people watching.

So many people...always in a hurry, she thought, where could they all possibly be going?
One particular man caught her eye. She could only see the back of his figure. Tall, broad shoulders. He had on what looked like an expensive coat on, but from what Erica could tell, he was quite muscular. Erica smiled,

See, now I wonder what kind of job that guy has. Probably some professional boxer or something. She thought to herself.

The man stood up to leave his table in which he was occupying alone, and exit the small cafe when something caught Erica's eye once again; something was left behind on the chair. Whatever it was, it was most likely about to get stolen. Erica packed her book within her purse and looked towards the door. He was quickly barreling through the crowd to the streets of New York. Erica watched him turn left. The closer she got the quicker she realized it was a wallet, and quite a heavy one. Without hesitating she pulled the first bill she could find from her own purse to place on her table as a tip and took off after the stranger. Normally she wouldn't do such a thing, and the fact that her boots had a small heel on them made things just a little bit more difficult.

Weaving in and out through the crowds of people on the busy side walk seemed easy, she just hoped he wasn't gone for good. Finally, a break in the crowd! Erica surges towards the stranger. For walking, he sure put a distance on the coffee shop. "Wait!" She suddenly grabs the back of his jacket, causing the confused and startled man to suddenly stop. Confused, he turns to face the commotion.

"Hey... I'm sorry, You... You left this y'know?" Erica managed to try and catch her breath. She was hunched over, one hand on her knees and one holding up the wallet. She smiled at him as she got a chance to study his facial features. The man was quite attractive. Coarse longer brown hair but tamed and combed very well. He had sunglasses on to hide his eyes but the rest of his features suited his figure. His jawline looked sharp enough to cut diamonds.

He brushed his sunglasses to the top of his head which revealed sparking brown eyes. Although his eyes seemed to scream 'fierce', Erica felt a softness from matching them with her own light blue ones.

"Ah... Thank you. That would have been very bad. I can repay you if you'd like. That was very kind." he gently took the wallet from her hands, and the two found themselves awkwardly standing there for a moment. Erica could feel a light blush coming upon her face. The two were staring at each other and Erica thought her heart was going to explode.

"No, no, no, no, no..." She waved her arms, "I was just doing a good deed. No worries, I'm just glad I found you." She looked down at her feet, and then back up at the charming man, "anyway, take care!" and with that, she turned and ran off, leaving the man still facing towards her as she left.

Yes he was attractive, Erica thought, but there is no way an attractive probably rich guy like that would want an average joe like me...and wait... Did he have an accent?? She sighed and headed towards her apartment.

At least she had one thing to look forward to when she got home; Her dad had obtained tickets to see the New York Islanders, who are on a winning streak, play tonight at the brand new stadium in Belmont.

Meanwhile...

Mat Barzal stood a little dumbstruck in the sidewalk after the encounter. He watched the mystery girl run away, long blonde hair trailing behind her, and wondered why the way she so innocently looked at him gave him a wave of unneasiness.

"She was... so nice..." He said aloud to himself. His felt his face begin to burn and shook his head rapidly to rid the feeling. He knew exactly what that feeling was, it had been a very long time, but he knew that nostalgic feeling.

No.. We aren't doing that again. He thought to himself and shook his head once more, C'mon, focus...Got a game tonight.

He just told himself he would most likely never see her again.

And that was that.
