Savannah was impressed with Oliver Tremblay. The kid revealed a lot of details about Conway and Jimmy Nelson, and now Savannah had enough to bring Tommy Conway in and interrogate him.

She walked into Liam’s office, seeing him buried behind his computer. “You doing anything important right now?” she asked him.

Liam looked up at her. “I’ve got time for you,” he said, with just a glimmer of flirtiness in his eye. Savannah brushed that off, though, as she got right down to business.

“Want to come with me to bring someone in?” she asked, sitting in one of the chairs across the desk from him.

“Be your backup?” Liam asked. “Let me clear my schedule, boss,” he grinned.

Savannah rolled her eyes at him but was appreciative of his help. “We’re bringing in one of the Dallas Stars scouts. Just had someone give a statement with explicit details of how this guy is dealing drugs,” she explained.

Liam paused. “Dallas Stars scout? Van, you sure you want to be involved in this case? I can bring him in myself,” he offered. Savannah knew he was just looking out for her and not wanting her to be too close to a case and make a mistake. But, it frustrated her that he was doubting her capabilities.

“I can handle this,” she said in such a determined tone that Liam backed off immediately.

“Got it,” he replied. “So tell me about this guy we’re bringing in.”

Savannah caught Liam up on the case and Tommy Conway on their way out of the station and down to the rink that Oliver had told her Tommy would likely be at.

Tyler had texted her to give him a call when she got a chance, but she ignored it for now. If all went according to plan, they’d have Conway at the station and in the interrogation room before 2:00 pm and she’d be home in time for dinner after locking him up. She’d talk to Tyler then.

Liam and Savannah walked into the small rink, seeing a few little kids getting ready for a peewee game. There was no way Conway was here. Either Oliver had been wrong or lied. She wasn’t sure which, and she didn’t care. She just needed to find Conway.

“Don’t worry, I’ve got Mallory on it,” Liam told her. She gave him a curious look. “Trust me,” he added.

Savannah couldn’t do anything else but hope that he could figure out where Conway was. She watched the kids for a few minutes when Liam announced, “C’mon, I know where he’s at.”

She followed Liam, having to practically jog to keep up with him. When they got to the car, she asked, “Where are we going?”

Liam started the car and looked over at her as he shifted out of park and into drive. “American Airlines Center,” he stated.

Savannah stared at him incredulously while Liam kept his eyes on the road. “He’s at the AAC?” she questioned. “Why? You think he’s doing a drug deal now?”

Liam shrugged. “No idea. But we’re about to find out,” he said, pushing down on the gas pedal to get there quicker.

Savannah’s mind was racing as they drove to the arena. She was ready to capture this guy and get more info on Jimmy Nelson and ultimately Sonny Diego.

As they pulled into the parking lot, Savannah noticed Tyler’s SUV parked a few rows over. She hoped he didn’t get in the way of her taking Conway down.

She followed Liam inside, her adrenaline rushing. She always loved this part of her job, and she couldn’t wait to find Conway. They only had to flash their badges twice to gain full access inside. “Let’s go up to the suites. Maybe he’s actually scouting or something,” she shrugged her shoulders.

Liam nodded his head. “After you, boss,” he smirked.

Savannah rolled her eyes. “Don’t call me that,” she muttered, taking the lead. She’d gotten halfway up the stairs when she heard her name being called. She turned her head to see Tyler standing at the bottom.

“Savannah, what are you doing here? Did you get my message?” Tyler called up to her. He was taking the stairs two steps at a time to catch up to her.

“I’m kinda in the middle of something,” Savannah told him impatiently. “I’ll talk to you later,” she added, continuing up the stairs. Liam was looking between the two of them but saying nothing.

“Savannah. Listen to me. Conway knows,” he told her.

Savannah stopped and spun around. “Conway knows what?” she asked.

“That you’re a fucking cop,” she heard a voice say above her as an object flew at her head. She bolted aside just in time to have it miss her as she snapped her head up to see Conway standing at the top of the stairs with a gun pointed at them.

“Shit!” she yelled out as she reached for her own gun.

She realized it was a bullet that had buzzed past her when Conway shot off another one. She tried to fire a shot at him but she missed as Liam pushed her aside to move ahead of her with his gun out.

“Should’ve stayed away and minded your own business, you bitch,” Conway yelled at her as he fired off another one which she again dodged.

She heard Tyler yell out and her heart dropped as she turned around to see him on the ground. “Go, check on him,” Liam urged her. “I’ll get this bastard,” he promised as he ran up the remaining stairs, chasing after Conway.

Savannah bolted down the stairs to Tyler, who was laying on the bottom step. “Oh my God, Tyler, are you okay?” she crouched down next to him.

“I dodged the bullet,” he told her as she searched his body for any blood. “But I think I did something to my leg.”

She looked down to see a bone sticking out of his lower leg. “Fuck. Tyler,” she muttered. “It’ll be okay, I’ll call 911.”

“What about Conway? Go get him.”

She couldn’t leave Tyler right now. Not when he’d fractured his leg and was in obvious pain. “Liam is after him,” she told him. She wanted to be the one to capture Conway, especially after he did this to Tyler. But she couldn’t leave her boyfriend.

She’d already pulled out her phone and was getting an ambulance to the rink. “Is this what you were calling me about earlier?” she asked, suddenly regretting not calling him back.

“Well I knew Conway knew something about you and me and what we were up to,” he said, his voice filled with pain from his grotesque injury. “I didn’t know he was going to shoot the place up.”

“Where the hell is security in this place?” Savannah questioned, suddenly realizing there were no security guards coming to their rescue or attempting to help capture Conway.

Tyler chuckled through the pain. “It’s summer. No one is around,” he said.

“Fucking dumb,” she muttered.

“Savannah, my leg fucking hurts,” he mumbled, and she was worried he was about to go into shock.

“I know,” she sympathized with him. “We’ll get you to the hospital soon.” She waited with him the next five minutes until the ambulance was there and helping to take him to the emergency room. She knew he was going to have to have surgery and she couldn’t have felt worse for him.

“I’m going with you,” she told him.

“No. Find Liam. Put that bastard behind bars. Then come see me at the hospital.”

She gave him a soft smile. She knew it was hard for him to know her job came first to her most of the time. “I love you. I’ll be there soon,” she said, giving him a kiss on his forehead, ignoring the sweat that was likely accumulating from how much pain he was in.

“I love you, too. Be careful. We don’t need both of us in the hospital,” he said, as he allowed the paramedics to splint his leg and take him to the ambulance and off to the emergency room.

Savannah wasn’t sure where to search for Conway and Liam. The arena was huge and they could be anywhere at this point. She hadn’t heard anymore gun shots which meant either Liam had captured Conway or he hadn’t caught up to him at all.

She frowned as she took the stairs two at a time. She raced around the concourse and then heard her name being called. “Van! In here, I got him,” Liam yelled.

She followed his voice into one of the press boxes and found Conway cuffed against the table, his gun a few feet away from Liam’s shoes. “I’ll call Mallory for backup. I need to get to the hospital. I’ll come back to interrogate this asshole though.”

“Hope I didn’t hurt your boyfriend too bad,” Conway spoke. “Was aiming for you,” he told her.

Savannah nearly leapt for Conway, but Liam stopped her. “Go. I’ll wait on Mal to take him in. I promise he’s not going anywhere,” he added.

Savannah hesitated but then nodded her head. She needed to see Tyler and make sure he was okay.

She made a call to Mallory to get to the arena immediately to help Liam as she realized she didn’t have her car here, having driven with Liam. She contemplated calling an Uber but thought better of it. Instead, she found herself sneaking into the locker room and grabbing Tyler’s keys. He’d be pissed she was driving his baby, but she needed someway to get to the hospital.

She called Maren from his car. “Hey Savannah, what do you got for me?” she picked up.

“Conway’s in custody,” she stated, barely looking before she changed lanes. She heard a horn blaring but ignored it.

“He is?!” Maren asked excitedly. “Has he talked yet? Do we have anything that will let us go after Nelson?”

“I haven’t talked to him yet. One of my guys is bringing him to the station right now. I’m off to the hospital. Tyler got hurt,” she told her. “Listen, just be ready to go after Nelson if I give you the go ahead.”

“Of course,” Maren replied.

“I’ll call you later. Oh, and Maren,” she paused. “Make sure Toews is out of the way when you go after Nelson. You don’t want to have to drive to the hospital to see him.”

She hung up before Maren could even reply. Savannah immediately called Shea. “Hey Van,” she picked up.

“I’m on my way to the hospital,” she blurted out. Her adrenaline was running out and reality was setting in. Tyler had been injured. Really injured.

She heard the background noise on the phone disappear and Savannah guessed Shea had walked into another room. Now that Savannah thought about it, she was surprised Shea had picked up since she was at work. “Are you okay? Do I need to come there?” she asked worried.

“It’s not me, Tyler was hurt.” And with that, tears started welling in her eyes. “God, Shea, it’s my fault.” She stopped at a stoplight and wiped away the tears before they spilled down her face.

“Van, what happened?” Shea asked calmly.

“I was going after someone and Tyler was there and he broke his leg. And oh my God, Shea it looked so bad. The bone was sticking out. He’s at the hospital now. I’m on my way,” she explained quickly as she maneuvered through traffic.

“I’ll meet you there as soon as I’m done with work. I should be able to leave in about an hour,” Shea told her.

“Thanks, I’ll text you if there’s an update,” Savannah said before hanging up. She had planned on calling Alex, too, but she had arrived at the hospital and needed to go check on Tyler.

She parked his SUV and ran inside. She figured they weren’t going to give her any information since she wasn’t his family, and she was ready to flash her badge if necessary. Surprisingly, they took her right back, telling her that Tyler had listed her as his emergency contact.

She followed the nurse back to another room only to be told they’d already taken him into surgery. She hated she hadn’t gotten to say she loved him one more time before surgery.

As she sat in the waiting room, she tried calling Alex, but she didn’t pick up her phone. She contemplated texting her but figured this wasn’t the type of thing she should be texting. She quickly called Liam and told him she’d be in after Tyler got out of surgery. Liam assured her Conway was safely behind bars for the time being.

Savannah sat back down in one of the uncomfortable waiting room chairs and finally got a chance to process everything that had gone on that day. “Van,” she heard her name, and she turned her head to see Alex standing there with Jamie right behind her. “Oh my God, are you okay? Shea called me!”

Savannah didn’t know why, but she finally broke down. She let herself cry as Alex gave her a hug. “He’s going to be fine,” Alex told her softly.

“Segs isn’t going anywhere without you,” Jamie agreed, giving her a reassuring rub of her shoulder. “He’s going to come out of this surgery and be ready to kick some ass.”

“God, Jamie, I’m so sorry,” Savannah suddenly apologized. He looked at her curiously. “For hurting Tyler. For maybe costing him part of the season.”

Jamie shook his head. “Segs would kill you if he heard you right now. He’d take a bullet for you any day. He’d rather be in there than you.”

“He didn’t get shot,” Savannah corrected him. “But he did get hurt because of me. Because of Conway.”

Jamie’s eyes widened. “Conway!?”

Savannah nodded her head. “He shot at me. Tyler moved out of the way and I think his leg got caught or something and he fell down the stairs. That’s how he broke it, I think,” she explained.

“Where’s Conway?” Jamie questioned.

“At the station,” she replied. “I’m going to go there later. I just need to know Tyler’s surgery goes okay.”

“It’ll be fine,” Alex told her, putting a hand on Savannah’s forearm.

Savannah looked down and suddenly grabbed Alex’s hand. “What is this!?” she exclaimed, seeing the sparkly diamond sitting on her ring finger.

“Not important right now,” Alex stated as she snatched her hand away.

“Very important. And we’ll discuss this later with Shea,” Savannah told her. She noticed Alex smiling. She knew Alex was more concerned for Tyler, but she had to be thrilled to finally have an engagement ring. Savannah just wished it hadn’t been ruined with the chaos of chasing Conway and Tyler ending up in the hospital.

It wasn’t very much longer before they were interrupted by the surgeon coming into the waiting room and asking for Savannah. “Is he okay?” she asked hesitantly.

“The leg is fixed, and we’re just waiting on him to wake up from anesthesia. Give that another thirty to forty minutes. He’ll have to follow up with an orthopedic surgeon and begin physical therapy within the next week,” the surgeon explained.

Savannah glanced over at Jamie. “I’ll get a hold of Mike,” he spoke of the team’s athletic trainer.

“Can I see him?” Savannah asked.

“When he wakes up. A nurse will come get you and go over discharge instructions.”

“Thank you,” Savannah said as the surgeon walked away. She turned around to Alex and Jamie. “Thank you both for coming here. You don’t have to stay, though.”

Alex gave her a small smile. “We’re not going anywhere until Tyler is awake.”

“Yeah, then he’s going to be asking to just have you to himself,” Jamie added. Savannah smiled at him. She wasn’t very patient but had no choice right now. She just needed Tyler to wake up so she could go see him.

I can see why Alex is the responsible adult in the situation, Jamie and Tyler fight way too much like little kids.

Tyler's advice to Jamie at the end about ring shopping is pretty funny. As far as the case goes it's really starting to get interesting, can't wait to read more.
