Savannah walked into Tyler’s house and found Shea and Alex both on the couch, watching Fixer Upper. “Thank you both for staying,” she told them as Shea stood up and gave her sister a reassuring hug.

Alex smiled at Savannah. “He’ll be happy you’re here,” she told her. “I think he might have just drifted off to sleep.”

Savannah sighed. “I hate that he broke his leg because of me,” she said.

“Look at my sister getting all these feelings for a boyyyy,” Shea joked in a sing-song voice.

Savannah frowned at her. “Shut up,” she snapped. “Besides, we need to talk about Alex being engaged!” she remembered excitedly.

“After you say hi to Segs,” Alex told her. “We all know you need to see him.” Savannah didn’t argue, instead putting her bag down and walking towards the stairs. “He’s in the guest room,” Alex called out. Savannah looked at her curiously. “No stairs,” Alex explained.

Savannah nodded her head in understanding and then walked to the guest bedroom. She peeked inside, seeing Tyler in the bed. She tried walking in quietly to not wake him and was startled when she heard him say, “you made it back home.”

He didn’t even open his eyes and knew it was her. She smiled softly. “Yeah, sorry it took me so long,” she apologized.

He finally opened his eyes to see her. “Is Conway behind bars?”

“For now,” she replied. Tyler was about to question her answer but she elaborated. “He hasn’t confessed yet but has asked for a lawyer. He knows he’s going to jail. I think he may snitch on Nelson in Chicago and then lead us to Sonny Diego,” she explained.

Tyler patted the bed, wanting her to come closer, and she did as requested, sitting down on the edge when he scooted over. “I know you’ll get them all,” he said confidently.

“Thanks,” she smiled at him. “How are you feeling? You weren’t too annoying of a patient for Alex, were you?”

“I was an angel,” he replied.

Savannah laughed. “I don’t believe that for a second,” she told him. “But get some sleep, I’m not going anywhere tonight,” she said, kissing his forehead. “I’ll be in the living room with Alex and Shea if you need anything.”

He mumbled something but Savannah could tell he was already asleep again and she chose not to ask him to repeat whatever he had said. She walked back out into the living room. “Okay first thing’s first. Alex. Give us the details!”

Alex smiled at her best friends as Shea reached over to really take a look at the diamond ring on her finger. “He was so sweet, you guys,” she gushed. “It was after I got home from a photo shoot that morning. He’d made brunch, which I obviously thought was a little weird because it was Wednesday and he never cooks, let alone brunch on a weekday,” she chuckled. “But it was perfect. Before we ate, he pulled out the ring and proposed.”

“Uh we need to know exactly what he said,” Savannah told her.

Alex blushed slightly. “He just said he was sorry it took him so long to be ready for marriage but that he knows it’s right and wants to be with me forever as his wife.” Her smile grew bigger as she spoke. “And then told me the engagement won’t be as long as it took him to finally propose,” she added with a chuckle.

Savannah’s head snapped up at that. “Wait, are you two doing a shotgun wedding!?” she questioned.

Alex looked at her. “No!” she exclaimed. “Just...maybe a shorter engagement,” she said with a sly smile.

“How short are we talking?” Shea asked with a raised eyebrow.

Alex laughed. “I don’t know, we haven’t talked about it in detail,” she told them. “I’m barely engaged. And then we got the call about Segs,” she reminded them.

Savannah frowned. “I’m sorry I ruined the engagement,” she said sincerely.

“Don’t apologize,” Alex told her. “I’m just happy you and Segs are overall okay,” she said.

“We will celebrate your engagement, I promise. But I’m so tired right now,” Savannah said, fighting off a yawn.

“It’s been a few long days,” Alex agreed. “Go get some sleep,” she said, patting Savannah on the leg. “And when things have calmed down, we’ll celebrate,” she smiled.

“Yeah with a bachelorette party for the shotgun wedding,” Shea winked. Alex rolled her eyes, but Shea cut her off before she could argue. “Van, you really do need sleep. Go get in bed with Tyler. I’m sure you both could use the security during sleep. And call me when you get up tomorrow. I’m worried about you.”

“Worried about me?” Savannah questioned.

“Yes!” Shea exclaimed. “I know your concussion symptoms are still there. And you’re wrapped up in this case and getting no sleep. And now everything that happened today. You need sleep and recovery.”

“I’ll sleep,” Savannah promised.

Alex gave her a look. “Actually get sleep, not a nap,” she ordered.

“Okay, you two need to leave,” Savannah said, not wanting to hear them lecture her anymore. “Alex, I’m so happy for you,” she hugged her friend. “And thank you for watching Tyler for me. And thank Jamie too. And Shea,” she turned towards her sister. “Thank you, too. I couldn’t imagine how much worse off I’d be if you weren’t here.”

“I’m just glad you’re here and not in Chicago right now,” Shea admitted.

“Me, too,” Savannah said with a small smile. “I’ll text you guys tomorrow. Thanks again,” she said as she showed them out of Tyler’s house before heading towards the guest bedroom.

She was surprised to see Tyler awake. “Hey,” he said in a groggy voice with an unintentional sexy smile on his face.

“Hey,” Savannah smiled back at him as she walked towards the bed. “Is there enough room in there for me?” she asked.

Tyler scooted over, carefully protecting his leg. “Always room for you,” he said, pulling the blanket back.

Savannah slid under the blankets and curled up next to him, snuggling against his chest. She inhaled deeply. “I’m happy to be here right now,” she told him.

He wrapped his arm around her, rubbing gently up and down her spine. “I’m happy you’re here too.” It didn’t take long for her breathing to slow down and for her to drift off, comforted by Tyler’s hold.

“Fuck!” Savannah heard a voice scream out, causing her to bolt awake from the deep slumber she had been in.

She turned to see Tyler sitting up, clutching his leg. “Sorry,” he mumbled an apology. “Didn’t mean to wake you. I just turned weird or something and had this shooting pain in my leg,” he explained.

Savannah noticed the sun shining through the curtains and glanced at her phone to see it was after 9:00 am. She never slept in that late. “You’re okay, I need to get up anyways. What can I do for your leg? Do you need your meds? Or ice?” she offered.

“I need the damn thing cut off completely,” he muttered.

Savannah sympathized with him. She’d had that same thought on more than one occasion when recovering from her knee injury. “Sorry, but then you can’t play hockey,” she said simply.

“Seriously, when does the pain get better?” he questioned.

“Soon,” she said, kissing his bare shoulder.

“Are you heading into work?” he changed subjects.

She nodded her head. “Yeah, I need to get there and see what Liam and Mallory were able to get out of Conway. I need to call Maren, too, and update her,” she made a mental note to herself to do that on her way to work.

“My mom wanted to fly down here,” Tyler revealed. Savannah looked over at him. “You know my mom, worried about everything. When you call her and tell her you broke your leg and needed surgery, she thinks she needs to fly out here immediately,” he rolled his eyes, though Savannah knew he secretly loved it.

“Does she hate me yet?” Savannah mumbled.

Tyler stared at her. “Why would she hate you?”

“Because I caused this,” she motioned towards his surgical leg.

He grabbed a hold of her wrist. “First of all, she has no idea this had anything to do with you. Not that she’d blame you anyways. And second of all, my mom loves you and that you don’t take my bullshit and you keep me in check,” he told her. “She loves you. And that’s the only reason she isn’t coming down here. I told her you were here taking care of me and I’d be just fine,” he said.

“I’ll be back for dinner. And I’ll call Alex on my way and see if she can stop by and check on you later,” she said, climbing out of bed.

“I’ll be fine,” Tyler insisted. “I don’t need a babysitter.”

“If I thought you’d need a babysitter, I’d ask that nurse to come in and watch you. Something tells me she’d jump at the chance to help you in and out of bed,” Savannah muttered, an undertone of jealousy in her voice that didn’t go unnoticed by Tyler.

“I only want one person helping me in bed,” Tyler replied. “Speaking of, you know you’re gonna have to be on top for a while with my leg out of commission,” he told her.

Savannah wasn’t even surprised by his comment. Leave it to Tyler to be thinking about sex less than twenty-four hours after surgery. “And that’s different from normal, how exactly?” she questioned. Both of them knew Savannah preferred to be on top and Tyler never had any objections to that position.

Tyler grinned. “Touché,” he told her, leaning over and kissing her.

“Watch out, you’re gonna twist all weird and hurt your leg,” she warned, moving so he could no longer kiss her. “Besides, pretty sure the rule is no sex right after surgery.”

Tyler looked at her skeptically. “Whose rule is that?” he questioned.

She shrugged as she got out of bed. “I don’t know,” she laughed. “But seriously, take it easy today. I’m gonna take a quick shower and head into work so hopefully I can be home in time for dinner.”

“I love that this is your home now,” he smiled at her. He had worked for a long time to convince her to finally just move in with him and had just recently succeeded.

She simply smiled at him as she walked towards the bathroom. She didn’t spend much time getting ready, wanting to get to work as quickly as possible since she had slept in way later than she intended to. She asked Tyler one more time if he needed anything before she left and then texted Shea and Savannah on her way out the door. Can someone check on Tyler in a little bit? I don’t like leaving him.

Alex: I can check in on Segs when I get done with my photo shoot this afternoon.

Shea: I’ll go during my lunch break.

Savannah: Thanks, guys! I’ll text you later.

She put her phone on the Bluetooth speaker in her car as she called Maren. “Any updates?” Maren answered. Savannah couldn’t help but smile at the fact she didn’t even greet her but got straight to the point, something Savannah would do herself.

“I’m on my way in now. Conway should have had time to meet with his lawyers and be ready to talk,” she told her. “What about Brophy and Nelson?” she asked.

“Brophy is getting out of the hospital today,” Maren announced.

“Are you putting security on him?” Savannah asked as she switched lanes.

“Obviously,” Maren said simply. “I’m hoping to talk to him today when he’s released. Toews seems to think he won’t want to talk to me,” she added with an obvious annoyance in her voice.

“How involved is Toews in this case?” Savannah suddenly asked.

“Can’t be anymore than your boyfriend,” Maren replied.

Savannah was taken aback by her response before realizing there wasn’t any malice or judgement behind it, simply stating facts. “Tyler is going to be fully out of this case now,” Savannah stated. “I made the mistake of getting him so deep into it.”

“But we need him,” Maren countered. “He’s going to know that organization better than either of us would. Same as Toews with the Blackhawks,” she pointed out.

Savannah knew she had a point, but she didn’t like civilians involved in cases to begin with. Especially when that civilian was her boyfriend and he had gotten hurt. “I can handle it here with my crew. We don’t need any of the players getting hurt again,” she told Maren. “And if you’re keeping Toews involved, or any player for that matter, you better be ready to protect him at all costs.”

“I don’t mean to offend you, Savannah, but I haven’t put anyone in danger up to this point.”

Savannah’s heart sank at that statement, but she knew Maren was right. “You’re right,” she admitted. “And I’ll make sure no one else is again,” she said matter-of-factly. “Call me if you do get anything out of Brophy. I’ll update you after I’ve talked with Conway again,” she told her before hanging up the phone.

She knew she needed to focus on her job and not worry about Tyler right now. But that was easier said than done.

She pulled into the parking ramp, quickly parking her car and walking inside. “Good morning,” she heard Liam say as she approached her office. “You’re getting in late for Savannah Decker’s standards,” he added.

Savannah spun on her heel to face him. “Guess I needed more sleep than I wanted to admit,” she said simply. “Tell me you have good news.”

“Define good,” Liam replied.

Savannah groaned. “How bad is it?” she asked.

“It’s not bad per se. He did rat out his cousin in Chicago. That Nelson guy,” Liam told her. “But won’t say anything about the supplier.”

Savannah pursed her lips. “Let’s see what he says after I speak with him,” she said in a determined voice. She didn’t wait on anything else from Liam as she made her way to where they were holding Conway.

She didn’t have to wait long for the officers to bring him into the interrogation room. His lawyer was already there speaking with him so Conway was willing to talk with Savannah.

She crossed her arms over her chest as she stared him down. The way he looked her over nearly made her chilled to the bone, but she ignored it. “Let’s hear what you have to say,” she said simply.

“My client has already spoken,” his lawyer said. “We have nothing else to say.”

“So you don’t want to admit where the drugs are coming from?” Savannah questioned.

The lawyer looked at Conway. “Don’t say anything,” he ordered.

Savannah kept her eyes on Conway, who was glancing back and forth between his lawyer and her. “You realize if you help us catch Sonny Diego, there will be some leniency for you, correct? We’ve caught you,” she told him. “You’re giving drugs to these kids that are barely eighteen years old. They’re ending up in the hospital, you’re killing them.”

“I didn’t kill anyone,” Conway spat.

His lawyer acted quick, holding his hand out in front of Conway. “Don’t say anything else,” he ordered.

“Really? This drug kills people. It’s doing it on the west coast with these high school kids. And now in Chicago,” she told him, bending the truth. Brophy hadn’t died, but he had come close. “If anyone you’ve given these drugs to does die, you’ll be a murderer. Don’t you want us to actually catch the one that’s the real murderer? The one handling all these drugs? You’re just a player in his game, but you’ll go down for it all,” she threatened.

“You better watch your back, Savannah Decker,” he warned. Savannah was taken aback that he had used her full name. Just how much did he know about her? “I may be behind bars for now, but I’m not the one that’s going to be out for you. So don’t act like a smug little bitch. That smile will be wiped off your face real quick with one shot here soon,” he warned.

His lawyer jumped up quickly, ordering Conway to stop speaking immediately, knowing his client was getting himself in more trouble.

Savannah stared Conway down. “You lost your chance to help yourself out,” she told him. “You could have given up your source and taken a plea deal,” she said.

Conway smirked at her but didn’t say anything. It was as if he knew something she didn’t know. And Savannah knew he likely knew where Sonny Diego was or what he was up to.

She didn’t want to be inside the interrogation room with him any longer and walked out. Liam was standing outside, having watched the interaction. “What the hell was that?” he questioned.

“Find out whatever you can about Sonny Diego’s location. And any other connections he has. I know Conway and Nelson aren’t his only drug mules,” she told him. “See if there’s anyone else in the Dallas area.”

“Conway already threw Nelson under the bus. Don’t you think he would have mentioned anyone else in the Dallas area if he thought he was going to be taken down?” Liam asked.

“I don’t know, but we’ll find out.”

“Van, do you think you’re at risk of being hurt?” Liam suddenly asked.

“No,” she lied to his face. In reality, she was terrified Sonny Diego wasn’t the only one that was about to be after her after Conway’s arrest. Now she just needed to figure out who else was in Sonny’s inner circle and how many of them knew who she was or were ready to kill her to protect Sonny.

I can see why Alex is the responsible adult in the situation, Jamie and Tyler fight way too much like little kids.

Tyler's advice to Jamie at the end about ring shopping is pretty funny. As far as the case goes it's really starting to get interesting, can't wait to read more.
