Tyler and Savannah arrived at the restaurant only a fashionable five minutes late. Walking in, Savannah saw her group of friends in the back room. Shea was sitting next to her wife, Audrey, talking to Jamie and his older brother, Jordie, who sat across the table from her. Alex was sitting next to Jamie, and Savannah spotted his hand resting on Alex’s knee under the table. Jamie’s childhood friend, Emile Friesch, was sitting on the other side of Jordie. That left two seats next to Audrey open for Savannah and Tyler.

“Hey! Look who showed up!” Jamie announced when he saw the two of them.

“Get a little caught up in something?” Alex asked with a sly smile.

Savannah gave her a slight tap on her back as she walked past her towards the open seat. “I texted you that Tyler was late getting home after golfing,” she said as she pulled out the seat and sat down. There was a glass of water on the table for her, but she needed something stronger.

“Which would have been believable had these guys not been golfing with him today, too, and managed to get home in plenty of time,” Shea smiled, catching Savannah in her lie.

Tyler laughed loudly. “And what was that about you being a federal employee and never lying?” he joked with Savannah.

She rolled her eyes as she flagged down the waitress to order a Jack and Diet Coke and then started a conversation with Alex.

Conversation eventually turned into Savannah heading to Chicago the next day. “Better watch out, Segs, she’s gonna find a better hockey player out there,” Jamie joked.

“Yeah, I hear that Toews guy is pretty sought after,” Jordie joined in on the ribbing.

Savannah stared at the brothers. “Yeah, I’m planning on going to Chicago and eloping with their captain,” she deadpanned.

“None of us could blame you for wanting to marry someone other than this guy,” Jamie laughed.

Tyler glanced at Jamie. “Better watch out, she leaves me for Toews, and I’m proposing to Alex,” he warned him. Everyone, including Alex, laughed at the comment, knowing Alex would never go for Tyler, even if she wasn’t dating Jamie.

“She should get proposed to in this lifetime, since this guy over here won’t commit,” Jordie lightly elbowed his younger brother. Everyone knew Jamie was fully committed to Alex, though for whatever reason he refused to get married to her, shunning off the idea of marriage.

“What, one proposal in your lifetime is enough? Don’t want to do it again?” Emile spoke up. Everyone spun their heads to stare at him, wondering what he was talking about. Emile was looking at Jamie when he made that comment, but now he was realizing everyone was looking at him. “What?” he asked innocently, not knowing what he had done.

“Emile,” Jordie said through gritted teeth.

Savannah looked between Alex and Jamie, as confused as everyone else at the table. “Jamie, what is he talking about?” she asked him.

“Wait,” Emile spoke up again. “Does no one here know about that?”

“Shut. Up,” Jordie muttered to his friend. He then stood up and put his hands on Emile’s shoulders. “It’s time to leave,” he told him, pulling him up so he understood he wasn’t joking around. “Good luck, bro,” he said to Jamie as he led Emile out of the restaurant.

“Jamie, what’s going on?” Alex asked him. Everyone was staring at Jamie, waiting for an answer. “Were you engaged before?” she finally asked when Jamie said nothing.

Jamie was looking down at his plate, focusing on his breathing. Savannah was trying to figure out if he was pissed that this had come out or if he was trying to decide what to say to Alex. “Jamie!” Alex snapped, and Jamie’s head shot up to look at her.

“Yes,” he finally sighed.

Everyone stayed silent, practically holding their breaths. Savannah focused on Alex, who was remaining oddly calm in the situation. “When?” she asked simply, her voice completely void of emotion.

“A long time ago.”

“You said you didn’t want to get married,” she reminded him. He had said that more times than Savannah could count on one hand. So how had he been engaged before? Clearly Alex was wondering the same thing.

“I don’t,” he told her. A look of hurt flashed across her face, and Savannah’s heart broke for her best friend. “Look, I was young and stupid. It didn’t work out, obviously,” he explained.

Alex suddenly pushed her chair out from the table. “I need to get out of here,” she said as she stood up. Jamie tried to reach out for her arm to keep her there and try to sort everything out, but she shrugged him away and bolted for the door, not giving anyone else at the table a glance.

Savannah looked at Shea and then at Tyler. “Go,” he told her, knowing she needed to be with Alex right now.

Savannah and Shea went after Alex, leaving just Jamie, Tyler, and Audrey at the table. Tyler thought it was ironic the trio’s significant others were left there at the end of the dinner.

Audrey looked over at the men. “Look, Jamie, I don’t have much to say to you except that I’ve watched Alex give you her everything, and I really hope she’s able to put herself back together enough to let you try to even remotely fix this.”

Jamie shut his eyes, and Tyler knew Jamie understood how badly he had fucked everything up with Alex. He didn’t need to hear it from Audrey right now. Fortunately for him, he didn’t have to hear anything else from her, as she stood up and left, leaving just Tyler and Jamie.

“Engaged? Really?” Tyler questioned. He never could have expected this to come out tonight.

Jamie shook his head as he shut his eyes tighter. “I don’t need to hear shit from you right now, Segs. You’ve fucked up quite a bit in the past, too,” he reminded him.

Tyler didn’t take any offense to what Jamie said. At least he’d never been engaged before and kept it from Savannah. “You freak out at the mere mention of marriage to Alex. You won’t even look at rings while you play house with her. And now come to find out you’ve proposed before!?”

Jamie slammed his hand down on the table in front of him. “It was a long time ago. It meant nothing. And showed me I didn’t want to get married. Ever,” he told Tyler.

The waitress walked up to their table, noticing everyone else was gone. “Um, can I get you anything else?” she asked.

Tyler reaches in his back pocket for his wallet. “No, we’re good,” he told her with a smile as he handed her his credit card. He looked over at Jamie who looked absolutely miserable. “So what’s the plan, Captain?” he asked him.

“Your guess is as good as mine,” he muttered.

After the waitress came back and handed Tyler his credit card, he stood up, putting it back in his wallet and in his back pocket. He put a hand on Jamie’s shoulder. “I know I’m not the best person to give advice, but I do know Alex is the best thing that’s ever happened to you and you better not let her go.”

Jamie looked up at him, frowning. “Can you let me know if Van says something?”

Tyler nodded his head. “Of course, buddy. I’m gonna head home. You sure you’re going to be okay?”

Jamie ran a hand over his face. “I’ll be fine,” he told him.

Tyler nodded his head and bolted towards the door. He wanted to do more for Jamie but there wasn’t much more to do. So, he went home and waited for Savannah to see if he could get some answers.

It wasn’t until nearly two in the morning that Savannah came home. Tyler had been fast asleep in his bed when he heard his dogs running towards the front door. He sat up in bed as Savannah appeared at the bedroom door. “Sorry,” she apologized as she slipped off her shoes. “Go back to sleep,” she told him.

Tyler shook his head. “Nah, I’m up. How’s Alex?”

She ignored his question. “Did you know?” she asked him. When Tyler looked at her confused, she asked, “did you know Jamie was engaged before?”

“No,” Tyler stated. He could tell she didn’t fully believe him. “I didn’t!” he claimed. “I mean, I never knew why he didn’t want to get married and flipped out when someone mentioned proposing. But now I see he was probably having PTSD or something,” he said.

Savannah shook her head before grabbing her hair and pulling it up into a pony tail. “I can’t believe he kept that from her. I swear to God, Seguin, you better not be keeping any secrets like that from me,” she threatened, pointing a finger at him.

“I promise,” he assured her. He could tell her mind was still trying to process this all so he changed subjects. “What time do you leave tomorrow?” he asked.

“Flight is at 8,” she replied.

“Want me to drive you to the airport?” he offered.

“I need to be there early,” she pointed out. “You don’t need to wake up. I’m probably not even going to go to bed. I’ve still got to pack,” she explained.

“I’ll stay up with you,” Tyler grinned. He moved and swung his legs over the edge of the bed, grabbing Savannah’s waist and pulling her towards him. She started to protest until he kissed her stomach.

Her hands automatically gripped his hair. “Tyler,” she began, the word coming out in a half-moan.

He looked up at her with a sexy smile on his face. “Hmm?” he asked as he lifted her shirt up and pressed his lips to her bare skin.

“I need to pack,” she reminded him.

“Mmhmm,” he bummed against her.

She pulled his head away from her. Looking down at him, she said, “I can’t do that if you keep doing this.”

“You let me do this,” he said, pressing a light kiss to her stomach. “And then you can pack,” he suggested. His hands went to the button of her shorts and undid it before pulling her zipper down.

As his lips went lower and eventually dipped below the zipper, she gave up arguing. “Fiiiiiine,” she sighed. “But make this quick, I really do need to pack,” she stated.

“Oh I can be quick,” he told her as he helped her shimmy out of her shorts. She stood there in her T-shirt and panties, and he just grinned at her. He had lost count of the number of times they’d had sex, and he still loved it as much as the first time.

“Pants off,” she ordered with the snap of her fingers.

“Yes, ma’am!” he exclaimed as he stood up and stripped down to his boxers.

She gripped the waistband of the boxers and pulled them down before pushing him back on the bed. He put his hands behind his head and enjoyed the show as she took off her own underwear. She kept the T-shirt on, which normally Tyler would complain about, but he had to admit right now was sexy.

She climbed on top of him, not wasting any time in lining herself up with him. As she slowly slid down onto his dick, he put his hands on her hips to guide them. “Fuck,” she moaned in a low voice.

He adjusted himself so he slid into her deeper. Just as he felt himself all the way inside, she lifted herself up, having him come halfway out before sliding back down.

His hand went to her back, running his fingers up and down her spine. As she grinded on him, he lifted one hand into her hair, taking a firm grip. She moaned, and he pulled just a little harder. She leaned her head back, exposing her neck, and he lifted himself up off the bed to kiss her neck.

“Turn around,” he requested, and as she came back to reality, she did as told, and moved into a reverse cowgirl position. “That’s better,” he told her as he reached around and grabbed her breasts through her shirt.

“Ugh, Tyler,” she moaned as she grinded on him some more.

Tyler could feel himself getting close to climaxing. “You keep that up, and I’m fucking coming,” he warned her in a low voice.

“Good,” she smirked just before letting out an exaggerated moan. But as he had warned, that set him off, causing him to come inside her before he wanted to. “Fuck, Tyler,” she commented as she felt his cum.

“Shit, Savannah!” he called out. He was exhausted from just that but he wanted her to come as well. She obviously did, too, as she kept riding his dick. He reached around and started rubbing her clit, and it was a mere moments later when she orgasmed. Tyler smirked, knowing that was one of her better orgasms.

“Mmm, that was good,” she smiled as she slowly climbed off of him and collapsed next to him. She put a hand on his chest as he wrapped an arm around her back.

“Mmhmm,” he hummed as his eyes started to close.

“And now I gotta pack,” she said, and Tyler could feel her get out of bed. But his eyes were shut and he was falling asleep already.

The next thing Tyler knew, an alarm was going off, much too early for his liking. “Ughhh why is the alarm going off?” he whined.

Suddenly it silenced. “Because I have to go to the airport,” Savannah’s voice said. “Stay in bed, I’ll Uber,” she added.

Tyler reluctantly opened his eyes. “No, I’ll drive you,” he said. It took him several moments but he finally swung his legs around and off the bed. He looked at Savannah through sleepy eyes. “Did you even go to sleep?” he asked.

“No, I can still pull all nighters and be fine,” she replied.

“I’m gonna go to the bathroom and brush my teeth and then I’ll be ready,” he told her. She didn’t say much as she watched him move towards the bathroom.

He got ready quickly and after taking his dogs out for a potty break, he was taking Savannah’s suitcase to his car. “I don’t even know any of the details about this trip. You barely told me anything before the dinner. By the way, how is Alex doing?” Tyler asked.

“Let’s just say if you did was Jamie did to her to me, you’d be a dead man,” she replied. She leaned her head back against the headrest. “She’ll be okay. I asked her if she wanted to come to Chicago with me, just to get away.”

Tyler glanced in her direction. “You’re suggesting she run away from Benn? I know he messed up, but we both learned running away doesn’t fix anything,” he reminded her. He had run away when things got tough between him and Savannah and it hadn’t turned out well. Fortunately, they had made up, but that didn’t mean he thought she should suggest it for Jamie and Alex.

“I’m just giving her an option if she needs to get away,” Savannah clarified.

Tyler thought about arguing but instead changed topics. “So tell me more about this case.”

“It’s an old case I worked on a lot when I was in Chicago. The guy’s name is Sonny Diego. I was always one step behind, but they got a new lead so I’m going back to make sure this case is solved once and for all,” she said matter-of-factly.

“How long will you be gone for? The magazine cover party is the end of next week,” he reminded her. He had done a photo shoot for GQ earlier in the summer, which Alex had done the photos for, and the magazine was throwing a party for its release.

“I hope this will be a quick case to close, but I don’t know,” she told him. “I’ll do my best to be back before then.”

“And are you going after this Diego character yourself?” he asked cautiously. He didn’t want to start a fight but he didn’t want her going after him on her own.

Savannah shook her head. “No, the girl that took my place, Maren, is the lead in the case now. I’m just going back because I’ve got all the background on the case,” she explained.

Tyler inhaled deeply and let it out slowly. “Just be careful,” he said simply as he turned off the highway towards the airport.

“You, too,” she replied, and Tyler looked over at her curiously.

“Me too? What do you mean by that?” he inquired.

He saw that she wanted to say something but decided against it. She shook her head. “Nothing, I’m just tired, I don’t know what I’m saying,” she said, leaning her head against the window.

“Should have gone to bed earlier last night,” Tyler joked.

“Well if someone didn’t keep me up,” she raised an eyebrow at him.

“Don’t lie, that was amazing sex last night.”

She smirked. “It was alright,” she said, but Tyler knew she was lying. It was as good for her as it was for him.

“Well it’s gonna have to tide you over,” Tyler said as he pulled into the airport drop off area.

Savannah opened the door and got her suitcase out of the trunk before going back to the passenger window, leaning in. “It better tide you over as well, Seguin. No hooking up with other girls,” she winked at him.

“You either,” he responded.

“Me either?” she questioned with a raised eyebrow.

“Hey, your sister likes the ladies. Who knows if you want to try it out, too,” he winked at her.

“Bye, Seguin,” she said, giving him a small wave as she stood back from the window.

“Bye, Decker,” he called her by her last name. “Find that bastard and get your ass back to me.”

She smiled. “Will do,” she replied, gathering her suitcase and heading inside the airport.

I can see why Alex is the responsible adult in the situation, Jamie and Tyler fight way too much like little kids.
