Shots Not Taken
We Have Lift Off
I wrote these next few chapters in my sticky notes while I was in Maine without wifi so they might be a little short and I am sooo sorry!! I will post the three that I have though!
The next day I went into work and told my boss all about what was going on and that I'd need to take time off in order to fly out there.
"The Bruins?!" She questioned.
"Yeah, I know." I replied almost sounding ashamed.
"Now why the hell would you do that?"
"It's a great offer Angie."
"I guess your right. Well if you need anything let me know." She sang with a smile.
"Thanks."
The next few days consisted of my mind flopping back and forth between whether or not I should go. I got a package nearly a week and a half after the phone call. The return address was from Scott. I opened it and pulled out a folder that had a the big "B" on the front of it. I sighed and opened the folder. A hand written note from Scott was the first thing I saw.
"Hey Eila,
This is just a folder with your plane tickets and requirements for the interview. I also threw a map of Boston in there for you, but the Garden won't be that hard to miss! I'm sure you can just take a taxi there if you'd like. I took care of your hotel too. You'll be staying at the Boston Harbor Hotel. Please call me when you get this just to make sure everything is all set!
Thank you,
Scott"
I actually started to feel happy. I had been to America a few times, but never Boston. I saw a game in Chicago once and then I went to California for a summer with my parents. My parents. I have to call them and tell them! I grabbed my phone and called my mom.
"Hello?" My mom answered.
"Hi Mom!" I said excitedly.
"What are you so excited about?" She laughed.
"You will never guess what happened."
"You won a million dollars?"
"No mom, it's better."
"Better than a million dollars?"
"I got a job."
"Really? Where? Doing what?"
"Well technically not yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to get it! I'm going to be going to Boston for an interview with Scott Waugh from the Boston Bruins to be their medical trainer/physical therapist!"
"That is amazing! But Boston? You hate the Bruins."
"I know, but I've come to realize that it's a great opertunity and I can help take care of Judy!"
"I am so happy for you baby! I hated seeing you so unhappy, but this is going to be a great change for you! When are you leaving?"
"Uhh, my ticket says on Friday so that gives me three days to pack and stuff."
"You have your passport and everything right?"
"Yeah, I got all that stuff."
"Okay, well I have to go see Judy so I'll talk to you later. I'm sure she will be very excited to hear about this."
"Yeah she will be, tell her I love her and give her a kiss for me please."
"I will, love you."
"Love you too."
I thought about Judy for a few minutes. Judy is my older sister, she has Brain Cancer. THey thought she conquered it when she was young, but she relapsed just two years ago. It was really hard on my family and my parents were forced to go live in Toronto where she was being taken care of. I wanted to go with them, but my mom insisted I stay and finish college. It was a hard choice for me to make, but I stayed. My parents are having a hard time paying for her treatments and I hate saying this, but she's dying. The doctor said she'll be lucky if she makes it to Christmas, which kills me.
I had to wake up at around three to make it to my plane. I threw some last minute things in my bag and ran out for a taxi. The ride was about 5 hours to Chicago and another 4 to Boston and I wasn't really looking forward to the jet lag. There was a man who sat next to me, he was quite attractive if you ask me. He didn't seem to notice me until I gripped onto the arm rest as we were lifting off.
"First ride?" He asked chuckling.
I laughed and shook my head.
"No, but I've always hated that part."
He nodded and stuck his hand out,
"Patrice," he said.
"Elia."
"Nice to meet you."
We did some small talk on the way to our stop in Chicago, but no much. Unfortunately I didn't have someone sitting next to me on the plane to Boston.
The plane landed at about six (Eastern time) and I just wanted a nap. As soon as I got my bags I pulled out my phone to call Scott.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Hey, it's Elia, I just landed in Boston."
"Oh awesome! The boys have their first camp tomorrow at noon, so we can meet at the Garden then and we can talk some."
"That sounds great!" I said.
"Alrighty I'll see you then."
"Bye."
"Bye."
I hung up my phone relieved that I could just go to the hotel and sleep. Once I got to my room I smiled. I had never gotten a suite before and this room was amazing! Maybe I'll like Boston afterall...
