Shots Not Taken
Flipped
This is kinda a filler so sorry if it's not very eventful!!
"No." I was in shock.
"I'm going to fly back to Vancouver with your dad."
"Are you sure you don't want me to come out there?"
"Yeah, we've already decided she's going to be burried there."
The word "burried" sent shivers down my spine. I never thought this day would come to be honest.
"So um, how," I paused, "when..."
"They were removing a tumor and her body couldn't take it anymore and she just gave in." I could hear her voice shaking like crazy.
"Mom, everything will be alright, okay?" I started to choke up myself.
"I know, I know. She's in a better place now. She's not suffering anym-" Her sobbing cut her off and she began to cry a lot more than she had already been.
"Oh mom."
"I'm going to be fine, I'll be fine." She said over and over again.
"Where's dad?" I asked.
"He locked himself in the den, he won't come out until we're ready to leave."
"I'll try and call him. Is there anyone that can come help? Do you have any friends over there?"
"No."
"When are you leaving?"
"Tomorrow night."
I got off the phone with her and sat on the couch. I took in a long hard breath and put my head on my knees.
"Judy," I whispered.
I laid in bed all day. I didn't touch a box, I didn't look at my phone, I hardly even ate. I just thought of all the memories. I finally looked at my phone at about six or seven. I had five missed calls from Scott. Right as I was going to listen to my voicemail, his name showed up on my screen indicating that he was calling yet again.
"Hello?" I answered sluggishly.
"Hey, did you see that I called you?" He asked anxiously.
"Yeah, sorry."
"Where have you been all day?"
"Well let's see, I woke up feeling nice and I went to the coffee shop down that I work at to put in my two week notice, then I got a call from my mother that my sister Judy, who has been suffering from brain cancer all her life passed away. So I've been laying down in bed thinking about how fast life goes past and how to cherish every moment of it."
"Oh Elia, I am so sorry. I didn't know." He said with a heartfelt voice.
"It's fine. Actually, it's not fine, but don't worry about it."
"Do you want more time to stay in Vancouver and sort things out?"
"No, the more I sit around thinking about it the harder it will be, so I think flying back to Boston will be a good thing."
"Okay, I just wanted to call and let you know that I forwarded you a bunch of paperwork that you can use for filing. Also we found you an apartment. I sent you some pictures of it if you want to check it out. We have to let them know ASAP if you want it."
"Okay, thanks."
"No problem, I hope things are okay in your family. Take all the time you need to get out here, okay?"
"Alright, thanks Scott."
"Anytime."
I hung up the phone and went over to my fridge and pulled out the container of water melon I sat down on my couch and put my favorite movie "Goon" on. It's a hockey movie and it has really bad acting, but it always cheers me up. I fell asleep there, with my hand in the bowl of watermelon juice. I was rudely awoken by the sound of my phone blaring Tuukka's name was shining bright on the screen. I looked at the time. 3:38. Really Tuukka?
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hello Elia." He slurred.
"Uh hey."
"I'm at a party."
"Clearly. All I can hear is the music blaring."
"I think I'm drunk too."
"Yeah, okay, well why are you calling me?"
"What are you talking about? You called me!"
I rolled my eyes and hung up the phone. I wasn't in the mood for this shit. I put my phone on silent and rolled back over on the couch and fell asleep.
I woke up to the sound of knocking on my door. I got up and found my parents behind the door.
"Hey mom." I said and hugged her.
She had clearly not stopped crying. Her and my dad brought their things into my spare room and put their bags down. The next few days were hard. I would help with the funeral, but also pack my boxes for Boston. It was extremely stressful The funeral was not easy for any of us. My mom and dad ended up moving into my apartment and the day to fly back came in no time. I was honestly excited. I was going to miss my sister, but being around all these sad people will just make it harder.
