Meant To Be

Chapter 1

Meant To Be

I can honestly say that when I woke up this morning I had no idea that today would be such an important day. The plan was to enjoy the day at the beach and soak up the sun, as we would be leaving in a couple of days to head back to the winter storms. This girl’s trip was a way to celebrate getting a kindergarten teaching position at an elementary school in Toronto. Thankfully the weather had been significantly warmer than the negative degree weather that Toronto was being hit with

Dressed in my black bikini and black sundress. I grabbed my black ray bands off of the hotel desk and traveled towards the elevators to head down to the lobby to meet the girls.

As I heard the ding of the hotel elevator I stepped into it without looking where I was going, someone knocked me onto the ground.

“I’m so sorry”

I looked up noticing was how tall and handsome the mystery man was. I couldn’t stop looking into his ocean blue eyes as he gently helped me up.

“It’s my fault I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going,” I said smiling as he pulled me back onto my feet.

I couldn’t help but notice the way his biceps looked in the white t-shirt he was wearing.

“I’m Morgan.” He said looking into my blue eyes and sticking his hand out for me to shake.

“I’m Megan,” I said smiling as I gave him a handshake. And just like in the movies as soon as our hands touched I felt sparks and butterflies erupted in my stomach.

“It’s nice to meet you, Megan. Sorry again for running into you.” He said giving me a breath-taking smile.

“Nice to meet you too.”

“I have to leave for a meeting but I would love to see you later for a coffee maybe?” He asked as he started to step out of the elevator.

“I would love that,” I replied smiling.

“Meet me in the lobby at 1:30 pm.” He said as he started to walk towards his hotel room.

The elevators shut and I was on my way down to meet the girls in the lobby.

“Oh my god, I just met the hottest guy ever in the elevator,” I stated as I met up with the girls in the lobby. We grabbed our beach bags and headed out of the hotel lobby and towards the beach across from the hotel.

“Wow.... you know how to talk to boys” my cousin Ali joked as she sent me a wink.

We found a place on the beach and started setting down our beach towels.

“Haha, you’re funny...” I replied sarcastically. “But we are going for some coffee this afternoon at 1:30 pm.”

“I’m so happy for you,” Izzie said sending me a smile.

As I lay down on the beach towel soaking up the vitamin D I couldn’t help but think about the blond hair, blue eyed, muscular man that had captured my attention.

Before I knew it was time to head back to the hotel for a quick shower before meeting Morgan for coffee.

After showering I put on a light blue halter sundress and sandals before grabbing the hotel key and heading to the lobby to meet Morgan. Once in the lobby, my eyes searched for the ocean blue eyes that I was yearning to look into again.

As fate would have it, I quickly locked eyes with Morgan and I watched as he quickly walked over to me and gave me a big hug. As we pulled away I couldn’t help but wish I could stay wrapped up in his arms for a little while longer.

“I’m glad we could meet up for coffee,” he said as he placed his arm around my shoulders and we walked towards the café attached to our hotel.

I flashed him a smile as we walked towards the café.

Once we walked into the cafe we ordered our drinks and headed towards a table on the outdoor patio that had a view of the ocean.

“So what brings you to California?” I asked as we sat down at a table.

“Work… I play for the Toronto Maple Leafs. We have a game against the Los Angeles Kings tonight.” Morgan answered as he flashed me his gorgeous smile. “What about you?” he added.

“Wow, that’s awesome. I’m here with my best friends celebrating getting a job as a kindergarten teacher at an elementary school in Toronto”

“Wow, that’s an awesome accomplishment for someone so young. May I ask how old are you?” He asked as he looked into my eyes.

“Thank you! I will be 24 years old on March 9th.”

“What! I’m turning 25 years old on March 9th as well!” He replied with excitement in his voice.

“This is so crazy!” I stated as we both look in each other’s eyes as our cheeks turned red.

I couldn’t help but think that maybe we were meant to find each other, as I got lost in his blue eyes. All I could think about was what it would be like is this turned into something more than a vacation fling.

“Whereabouts do you live in Toronto?” Morgan asked after he took a sip from his coffee.

“I live in liberty village,” I replied as I mirrored his actions.

“Wow, I live in the town over.” He stated as he flashed me his smile.

“How long are you guys in California for?”

“ We play Anaheim on Saturday, then we are heading home for a couple of games.

“We leave in two days,” I replied

We fell into a comfortable silence as we both looked out into the ocean as we heard the waves crash against the sandy beach.

“It’s so beautiful here,” I said as I turned to look into the ocean blue eyes that I could get lost in.

“My view is a lot better.” He stated as he looked into my eyes.

I couldn’t help the blush as it crept onto my face.

Morgan smiled as he reached over the table and placed his hand on top of mine.

“Would you like to go on a proper date with me? One where I pick you up and try really hard to impress you, just hoping for a good night kiss at the end of the night” he said giving me a breath-taking smile.

I couldn’t help but smile as I replied: “Maybe... but only if you score me a goal tonight!”

“Deal. I will leave you some tickets for tonight’s game,” he replied as he winked at me.

“Good luck Morgan, ” I said laughing as I walked out the cafe leaving him sitting at the table.

Walking out of the little cafe in the hotel I couldn’t help but look back at Morgan I couldn’t believe that someone that attractive was interested in me. It’s hard not to be self-conscious because of all of the expectations that are placed on girls.

Even though I’m beautiful in my own way it’s hard not to judge myself for not having model looks. I’m just your average 5’6 petite girl with curves.

I just couldn’t get it out of my mind that Morgan was a hockey player and he could have any girl he wants so why would he chose an ordinary girl like me.

The girls were still at the beach so I decided to text them to let them know what had happened

Megs: I ran into Morgan at the hotel cafe... he’s a maple leaf.... something I should have known because I love hockey.

Ali: haha you always had a thing for wanting to date a Hockey player and maybe you just didn’t think he was actually Morgan Rielly.

Megs: He also invited us to go to the game tonight...

Megs: We also may have made a bet

Kate: haha what did you bet??

Megs: that if he scores tonight we go on a date.

Brittney: well that’s a win/win situation for both of you.

Izzie: I really hope he scores on and off the ice
