Falling Fast and Breathing Hard

I Never Thought You'd Be The One To Hold My Heart

I haven't taken a sick day yet, so I decided to do that today on a very important day in November, which is two days until the Pens play the Bruins at home; it's the day we're gonna find out whether we're having a boy or a girl. Kris is really pining for a boy; obviously, he wants a hockey player and I knew that I'd enjoy him buying him skates and taking him out on the ice at Consol and teaching him how to ice-skate. Despite that, I'm pining for a girl; I wanted her to have the relationship with her father like the one I had with my mine before he passed away.

"Whatcha thinkin' 'bout?" he asked in the waiting room.

"How you want a boy and me wanting a girl and the reasons why."

He smiled to himself and kissed my cheek.

"Ms. Halloway?" I heard the doctor call.

Not even a minute later, I had been weighed and was being prepped for the sonogram, I gained five pounds.

"How much weight did you gain?" Kris asked.

"Five pounds." I said, groaning.

"Why ya groaning?"

"I hate gaining weight. All women hate gaining weight."

He just laughed at me.

"Just shut it, will ya?" I said, hitting him in the shoulder.

"Ow! I will. I will."

"Good."

"Are you two ready?"

"Yes." I said, nodding with Kris doing the same.

After maybe twenty seconds, she found our baby.

"Would you like to find out the sex?"

"You have no idea how much we wanna see it."

She laughed.

"Well, let us see here... looks like you're gonna have a girl."

I nearly squealed. I decided to save for that outside. I kissed him and he hugged me.

"We're gonna have a girl. We're gonna have a girl!" I said in the parking lot.

He laughed and took me in his arms once more.

"So, what's gonna be our daughter's name?"

"Kalea April Letang."

"That's beautiful. What inspired that name?" he said, kissing me on the lips.

"Well, I looked up names online and found the name Kalea, it's Hawaiian and means bright. As for her middle name, April is when I moved here and met you. Coincidentally, she's gonna have the same initials as you."

He didn't know what to say. He just kissed me again, causing me to giggle.

"Wanna tell everybody the good news?" he asked.

"Of course."

I immediately called my mom.

"Hello?"

"Hi,Mom." I said cheerfully.

"Why so cheerful?"

"I found out what we're having."

"OMG, honey! What?"

"We're having a girl!"

"Wow. Do the soon-to-be parents have a name?"

"Kalea April Letang."

"Aww... that's just beautiful. What brought on the names?"

"Kalea means bright in Hawaiian and April is when I moved here and met my knight in shining armor."

"You mean knight in a hockey jersey and ice-skates."

"Yeah, that sounds better."

"What does Kris think?"

"He loves it and said it was beautiful. Not to mention, he was speechless when I told him she was gonna have his initials."

"D'aww... I wish I could've seen his face."

"Yeah..."

"You know, I can't wait to come to Pittsburgh the day she's born."

"I can't wait till that day, either. I miss you!"

"I miss you too."

After a few more minutes, I hung up and got into the car with Kris.

"Sorry about that."

"It's okay. You were talking to your mom. What'd she say?"

"A lot of stuff."

"A lot of stuff like... what?"

"She said the name was beautiful, asked me what brought it on...and corrected me by saying that you're my knight in a hockey jersey and ice skates, not my knight in shining armor."

I couldn't stop smiling.

"So, I'm your knight in a hockey jersey and ice skates?"

"Of course you are. You're the sexiest one around."

For a second, he didn't know what to say, but obviously, that changed.

"Thank you." he tried to say with a serious face.

"I love you." I said, trying not to laugh.

"Why are you laughing?"

"You should see the look on your face right now."

He playfully rolled his eyes and kissed me.

"I love you too."

After a nice lunch, we headed back home since I needed a nap. This pregnancy has me more tired than I've ever been before.

"You know how I said I hate gaining weight?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, I also hate how fucking tired I've been these past four fucking months." I pouted, sitting on the bed beside him.

"Lay with me."

I nodded.

He laid back and I laid beside him, placing my head and an arm on his chest while he wrapped his arms around me. I began to get teary and sobbed into him.

"I'm so fucking sick of being this fucking tired and the thing is, it's never gonna end." I mumbled.

He sighed and rubbed my back.

An hour later, I was up and about and feeling much better.

"Hi Kris." I said, dancing.

"Feeling better?" he said with an amused look on his face.

"Yes." I said, getting up on my tippy toes to kiss him.

"Good. Would you be up for pizza for dinner?"

"Of course. Can we get stuffed crust? I think Kalea is hungry for stuffed crust." I asked, smiling.

"I'll get anything for her, anything for you. Always."

"Thank you."

"My pleasure, mi amour."

I giggled as he wrapped his arms around me.

"Je t'aime." I said.

"Je'taime aussi."

While Kris was outside for the moment grabbing the mail, I got a hold of Mary.

"Hello?"

"Hey Mary."

"Why'd ya just call me now?"

"I was feeling really tired and moody and napped. I just got up a few minutes ago, actually. Sorry."

"It's okay. I was just wondering. So, how'd the appointment go?"

"Wonderful, besides the fact that I gained five pounds. We found that we're having a girl!"

"OMG!! Do you have a name?"

"Kalea April Letang. I was looking up names and found Kalea, which means bright in Hawaiian and April is when I moved here and met Kris."

"I love it! I love it! I get to be an aunt, right?"

"Of course you are! You're my best friend."

"Yay!"

I laughed.

A few minutes later, I hung up on Mary and sat on the couch beside Kris.

"How's Mary?"

"Pretty good. She was wondering why I hadn't called her earlier."

"Mmm... what'd she think of the baby name?"

"She loved it. She said it twice! Then, she asked if she gets to be an aunt."

"No, she didn't."

"Yep. She did. I told her of course she was, you're my best friend."

"She's funny, that girl."

"That she is. That she is."

So, that evening consisted of eating my and Kalea's favorite pizza, a couple funny movies and lots and lots of snuggling.
