I Knew I Loved You

I can’t believe it. After five years he just kicks me out, as if everything meant nothing to him. The only thing he gave me was my cat? Can you believe that? Everything else in the goddamn apartment it mine, and the only thing he gave me was my cat? Asshole. My thoughts as I make my way to the arena are crazed; my asshole ex-boyfriend of five years just kicked me out of MY OWN APARTMENT. Luckily, my brother is playing against the habs tonight at the hockey arena, so I'm not completely hopeless.
I sighed happily as the arena came into view. It’s not very warm in Boston right now seeing as it’s the middle of January, and me being in a tank top and short short’s doesn't really help. The inside of the arena helped warm me up a bit, but seeing as it’s an ice hockey rink, it was still pretty cold.
The game was over as I made my way to the Bruins locker room. As I was walking down the hallway reality came and hit me in the face. The fact that I was homeless and had nothing to my name right now, made my bust out into tears. By the time I made it to the locker room snot was pouring out of my nose like a waterfall and my tears just wouldn't stop. I walked in the locker room, not caring about them all possibly being naked, and let a loud sob/scream from my mouth.
“What the hell!” I heard someone yell. I really couldn't care less about the other members of the team, I just wanted my brother.
I let my eyes roam around and found him walking out of the showers, when he seen me he froze. “Emily? What are you doing here?” I just broke down into another set of tears. He immediately came over and hauled me into a hug.
He took Charlie, my cat, out of my arms and placed me on the floor below the bench we were sitting on. My tears had finally calmed down a little bit, and my nose was no longer running. “Want to explain to me why you walked in here crying like that?”
“Trent-he-he.” Was all I could get out before I started bawling again. Tyler, being the-oh so caring brother he is didn't even wait for me to stop crying before he started freaking out.
“What'd he do Em? Did he touch you? He hit you, didn’t he? I'll kill him.”
“He dumped me!” I screeched out, I was sure the little bit of makeup I had on was now, all over my face, instead of on my eyes. “And that’s not even the worst part, I could care less about the little shit breaking up with him, I can get over him, it’s the fact that he took everything I owned. All of my money? Gone. Clothes? Gone. The only thing I have now is Charlie!” By now my tears were stopped and I was screaming out in pure anger. “I’m homeless, the only clothing I have looks like I just came from working a corner, and I'm poor! I have nothing. Besides my beautiful little Charlie kins. I'm surprised he never kept him for himself, the selfish bastard. I hate him! And you want to know what’s even worse? The reason he left me! For some little tramp! Five years! It's almost as if those five years meant nothing at all to him!” I yelled out, standing up. I completely forgot about the rest of the Boston Bruins team, so when I finally came to and stopped my angry rant, I blushed in embarrassment. They were all staring at me, some in surprise, some in awe and most in confusion.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I’m such an idiot, why did I come here tonight.” I said, as I reached to pick Charlie up.
“I told you he was trouble didn’t I? From day one when you brought him home, I said he was trouble.” He said, grabbing my arms and forcing me to look at him.
“Yeah,” I said with a small laugh, “guess big brother was right, huh?”
“Uh, I hate to break all of this up right now, but who are you?” Someone said, coming up from behind me.
“Never told them about me huh? Not that I’m surprised.” I said, looking at my brother with a smirk. “I’m Emily, Tyler’s sister.” When I turned around I wasn’t surprised to see the whole team there.
“You’re Emily? The Emily?” Turns out it was Zdeno Chara who spoke to me.
“Uh, I guess?” I said it more like a question as I raised my eyebrow at my brother.
“The Emily who’s boyfriend is a complete dick?”
“WAS a complete dick. We broke up.”
“Yeah, we sort of caught that.”
I blushed and seen my brother glare at his captain.
“Look Em, if you need a place to stay you can stay with me, it’s not a problem. I’ll get your stuff back. Don’t even worry about it. Now, what was yours?”
“Everything. I bought everything, including the apartment, with my own money. It’s all mine, legit. My name is on the lease, not his.” I mumbled, petting Charlie’s head.
“Shouldn't be too hard getting all that back, I’ll figure something out for you, but for now, we have to get back to my place. You look like your about to pass out.” He said, reaching for my hand.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sleepy.” I said, yawning. I walked towards the door with my brother in front of me before I could make it too the door, I felt my big toe come in contact with something hard. I let out a squeal and started hopping around. That’s when I remembered the sicko wouldn't even give me my shoes.
“Emily, where’s your shoes?”
“God I’m such a mess! I couldn't even sneak past him just to get a pair of shoes.” I said, tears springing to my eyes again.
“Here.” Someone mumbled. I looked to see one of Tyler’s teammates hand me a pair of flip flops, they were his, no doubt.
“No, I couldn't-“ I started. But he cut me off with a smile.
“Just take them, please?”
For some reason, I just couldn't say no to that smile, so I hesitantly took the shoes.
“Can I at least know your name?”
“Rask, Tuukka Rask.”
