Those Three Words (ON HOLD)

Dinner Date

I had the number in my phone and had written what was respectable to say. Now it was whether I went through with hitting send on my text message. My fingers forcefully moved and let the message be sent. Now we wait.

Ten long minutes of dreaded waiting. Soon enough he replied so simply. That's how I will always remember him. Never did he ever want anything too complicated.

'Iz, can we talk? I could probably fly out to Toronto next week. That is if it's alright with you?' His well written text read.

'Yeah sure. Is over coffee alright?' I asked.

'Still the same old coffee girl, huh? Anyways yeah sure. Wednesday should be alright. I'll text you when and you can tell me where I guess. :)' No doubt we were going to my favorite cafe, CarlRose Cafe.

I looked at the handsomely dressed Nazem Kadri. "Why me of all people?" I asked as I was fixing my earrings. Naz had insisted on taking me out to dinner. We never really had the time to hangout and go out and do fun-fancy like things. I should say more so he didn't have the time. He was way more busier than me. I was just a columnist in a boring old newspaper.

"I like you. You're so easy going. It's not all about hockey with you, but when needed you can be all about hockey. Oh, can't forget that you're really fun and interesting." He smiled happily as he adjusted his blazer.

"I like you too."

When we got to the restaraunt we asked about our reservations and were seated. After ordering our drinks, we awaited someone to come along and get our orders for dinner. It was a nice night in Toronto. The city chaos was as usual. There were no stars for that matter. Just another 8'oclock night in downtown Toronto.

"So you said you're meeting someone tomorrow afternoon?" He asked reminding me that I was supposed to have coffee with Erik.

I had to lie to him. I really didn't want to though. "Yeah, just some guy for my column. Boring work stuff, you know?" I couldn't let him find about my relationship with Erik. I couldn't let them find out about each other for that matter. It wasn't like Nazem and I were anything; we never were. Just friends that liked to hangout more than necessary.

"Oh, sounds fun."

"It'll be alright. So how about you? How's your family doing?" I asked happily. I knew his parents fairly well. They came to some games. I have been down to London with Kuley, Bozie and Nazem. They happily invited me over.

"They're great actually. Rema's playing baseball there and it's good. She's picking up baskeball too. Yasmine though, she's engaged now. And for Kelsey, she's out east still with the Oilers." His family was so athletic and close. I envied him for that.

"Still no truce with the Oilers, huh?" I laughed a little.

"Never!"

"I'm glad Rema is keeping busy. I mean I know how kids have fun now a days. It's not the greatest method. Tell Yasmine that I said congratulations though," I said with a smile.

"Will do."

A lady wearing all black came over with a note pad. "Can I take your orders?" She said cheerfully. One rule on being a waitress, be happy no matter what.

"Yes please."
