An old friend of mine went through something like that. At age 13 she lost her mother due to Heart Disease. One of the worst ages to lose a family members due to the insecurities most go through in their teens. She quickly became depressed, all the pressure was put onto her father. Her and her brother (Who was 17 at the time) were pretty much alone half the time. Their father didn't care what they did, as long as they didn't do drugs, alcohol, that kind of stuff.

She lost all of her friends (Except me!) due to her developing temper, and anger. She was thoroughly convinced no one cared for her in this world, and that she was a disgrace. Her brother was the mother/father figure she needed. He did anything and everything in the world to make her happy, but it never made her happy. She parted herself away from everything she loved in her life, spending 4-7 hours in her room just crying on end, telling herself she's worthless etc. (According to her brother)

I don't know her position to this day, but I hope she's recovered.
