"If you're miserable here, move to Chicago with me!" Patrick begged his cousin. They were the same age and best friends. Emma was close to all of the Kane's, as she was one herself, but for some reason she was always closest to Patrick. Growing up, her father pressured her to go into Law school. Emma didn't deny she would be good in that field, she loves proving points and arguing, but she wanted to get into journalism. She wanted to blog and interview people.

Emma bit her lip, the offer was tempting. Patrick had talked to her many times about the idea; how she can live with him until she finds her own place, he could get her a job, and even help her out money wise. Everyone in the Kane family hated when Patrick would offer his money to them. They all knew his income, but didn't want any part of it. Patrick earned his money, they didn't need to take it from him.

"I'd have to think about it, Pat." She sighed, running her hand through her long, light brown hair. The entire family was reuniting in Buffalo during the summer. Patrick and his team had just won the cup and everyone was estatic. Emma, Jessica, and Patrick were sitting in the back porch of the Kane house, drinking beer and eating snacks when the conversation came up about Emma's future. "It would be nice to move into the city..." She mumbled.

"I think it's a good idea, Em." Jessica told her, grinning. "Plus, you can keep Pat under control."
Patrick stood behind Emma's chair, putting both hands on her should. "Come on, Em! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!" He cheered. Emma grinned, rolling her eyes. She thought of the spontaneous decision one more time before standing in front of her cousin.
"Fine. I'll move to Chicago."

"You excited?" Patrick asked Emma as they walked off the plane. Emma nodded, smiling and examining the city sky. She always loved visitng Patrick in Chicago, and now that she got to live there made her beyond happy. She was ready to start a new life. She was ready to move on from Buffalo and enter the challenging world in Chicago.

Patrick arranged a driver to drive the two of them back to the Trump Hotel. Once they arrived, a few hotel employees came out to take the luggage while Emma and Patrick headed up to his condo.

"So what are the plans for tonight?" Emma asked, setting her purse down on the kitchen counter and rummaging through Patrick's fridge. All of the food inside was stale, so she grabbed a trashbag and began cleaning it out.

"Whatever your heart desires." Patrick chuckled, "Actually, everyone is back in town so the guys and I were thinking about goin' to a reunion dinner. You can come if you want."
Being around Patrick's teammates made Emma nervous. They were all so kind, but she hadn't seen them in about 2 years; and 2 years ago Emma was chubby and didn't know makeup existed. She thought back at what she said to herself on the plane and decided to go with Patrick. She needed to branch out now, it was time to make the city hers.

Since it was already late in the day, time flew as the two cousins got settled into the condo and got ready for dinner. Patrick put on his usual outfit; a plaid shirt with jeans and some designer sneakers while Emma went basic but classy, wearing black pumps with demin pants and a white blazer with a black undershirt. She curled her hair and wore silver Tiffany hoop earrings, the ones that Patrick bought all of the girls in the Kane family for Christmas.

They headed down to the parking garage to find Patrick's black Range Rover, his "baby" as he would call it. It was completely customized, with "88" stitched onto the back of every seat, and "KANE" on the steering wheel where the Land Rover symbol would be. They drove to some bar and grill Emma was unfamiliar with, but it seemed fancy.

The two of them walked in and were lead to the back, were tables were put together to make one big giant one. The guys yelled "KANER!" when they saw him and Patrick laughed as he walked around the table shaking his teammates' hands and hugging a few wives.
"Got a new girl over the summer, Kaner?" Andrew Shaw asked, walking up to Emma and shaking her hand. Emma shook her head immediately, "I'm his cousin, Emma."
Andrew blushed in embarrassment as Patrick whipped his arm around his shoulder, "You're gross, Mutt. That's my cousin. She's off limits."

Emma smiled playfully at her protective cousin. He'd given the speech to Emma and his sisters many times, the usual "No dating my teammates or hockey players, they're bad news" sort of thing. The Captain was last to arrive, who entered the restaurant solo. He greeted everyone, and walked up to Patrick and Emma with a look of concern on his face.

"Who's this?" Jonathan asked, pointing to Emma and shaking Patrick's hand. Emma sighed, she figured Jonathan would remember her. She'd met him many times, but then again, she completely changed how she looks.

"I'm Emma, Patrick's cousin?" She said a bit sassy. Jonathan's mouth formed an O, he didn't recognize her at all. For a moment he thought she was Patrick's girlfriend, but reevaluated his thoughts when he realized Kaner could never get a girl that pretty. This Emma was a new person. He remembered her as some short, fat, acne-faced shy girl. The one in front of him grew 5 inches and lost 70 pounds. She looked like she could be a model.

Emma was nervous at first, but opened up to many of the Blackhawks wives and girlfriends. They were welcoming and down to earth. Patrick would check on his cousin every once in a while, and was happy to see how much she enjoyed being with everyone. He felt uneasy though, when he noticed that Jonathan was constantly glancing at Emma.

Notes

I don't think Patrick Kane has a cousin named Emma, so I made her up. Comment on what you think so far? That'd be nice! :)

@laurenk19
true but it's what I call older brother syndrome; crap gets real really fast. If he is a really close cousin its like having an older brother. I have 3 of them , 2 of them are in the military.
oohh :) Pat's being a "tad" overprotective, Emma does have a point, she's definitely old enough to make her own decisions. But Pat does have a point, like if she got with Andrew than she'd definitely get hurt, but I think Jon would really treat her the right way and care about her.
