"So why'd your cousin move here?" Jonathan asked Patrick on their way to the bar. Patrick shrugged, annoyed that he would bring her up. The last thing he wanted was his best friend falling for her. If it didn't work out, Patrick had no idea what he would do. Jonathan was often around Patrick, and if Emma would be living with him, things would be awkward.
"She wanted a change, I guess."
Jonathan leaned against the bar, waiting to be served. "So she's living with you?"
"Yep." Patrick said bluntly, popping the "p" with his lips. The two ordered a few pitchers of beer and walked back to the dinner table, where Patrick found Emma sitting and laughing with Viktor Stalberg, another teammate of his. He knew he couldn't say anything, and that he was probably overreacting, but Patrick had always been insanely overprotective of the girls in his family. He knew Emma remembers what he'd always said about dating a hockey player, he just hoped he took her advice in consideration.
Dinner was ending and everyone was starting to clear out. The Sharps headed home with their daughter, who was asleep already, and Brent Seabrook was looking to leave with his wife as well. Patrick's nerves settled when he saw that Emma made her way to greet and talk to all of his teammates, and none of them hit on her. He knew his teammates would respect him by not trying to get with his relatives...or at least he thought.
"Do you like it here so far?" Jonathan asked Emma, sliding into the empty seat next to her.
Emma smiled, shrugging her shoulders and putting her hair behind her ear. Jonathan thought he was going crazy, he'd never been so attracted to someone; and out of all people, someone in the Kane family. He noticed how whenever she'd smile, her dimples would show and her bright white teeth would shine. She didn't cake on her face with makeup, but he could tell her eyes had some on them. Her nose was a little pointy to the point where it was cute, not big like an elephant or something to make fun of.
She grinned, eyeing Jonathan. "I've been here so many times, I love it."
"I'm 24 and I've been stuck in Buffalo all of my life," She continued, "So it's nice to move on. I'm still looking for a job, but it's always great knowing I have Pat by my side."
Jonathan nodded, "That's really cool. Kaner seems to care about you a lot, he cares deeply for his family. That's awesome he's giving you the chance to live with him." He told her, then chuckled at him next thought. "You better keep him in check."
Emma was about to respond when her cousin came up to the two of them. "You ready to go?" He asked her. She truly wasn't, but nodded anyway. She liked talking to Jonathan, he was funny and cute. In the past, he had always been polite, but never gave her the time of day like he did now. That was one of the reasons Emma changed. Lost her weight to feel more confident...and it was working. Emma got up, grabbing her bag that was set beside Jonathan. She hugged him goodbye and he made sure to tell her they'd meet up soon. Patrick and his cousin walked to everyone else, saying goodnight before heading out of the restaurant.
"Kaner's cousin is pretty hot, huh?" Andrew Shaw asked Jonathan as they walked to his car. Andrew recently moved into the same hotel as Jonathan, so Jonathan offered to drive him to the dinner. He rolled his eyes, thinking that Andrew had no chance.
"She's alright."
Andrew let out a huge laugh, "Yeah right, Jonny! You know she's hot. Damn, if she wasn't 3 years older than me..."
Jonathan chuckled, shaking his head. "Kaner would never allow it. We're not allowed to date any of his relatives unless you want your ass kicked."
Andrew disagreed, he was never one to follow rules. "He can't control anything. If his cousin wants to get with one of us, she can. He's not her dad or mine."
By then, Jonathan was annoyed. Andrew was a rookie, still a bit immature to the NHL lifestyle.
He didn't understand that it was all about respect. If Jonathan had a sister or a female cousin his age, he'd be the same way. He didn't blame Patrick for being protective like that.
"There's thousands of other girls in Chicago, go find one of them. Don't go for a teammate's relative, Mutt. It's bad news. Trust me."

Notes
So I know Stalberg signed with Nashville, but I still want to add him into my story.Feedback would be cool. I'll hopefully post tonight or tomorrow. :)
true but it's what I call older brother syndrome; crap gets real really fast. If he is a really close cousin its like having an older brother. I have 3 of them , 2 of them are in the military.
