Up and Coming

Chapter 1

"Bye! We'll see you in Minnesota!" Called Colette.

I nodded, and smiled at the kids, as I closed the door to the VIP lounge.

My name is Jake Belanger. I play left wing for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League. I was just dropped at the airport by my billets, the Butlers. (better know as the ShayTards on youtube)

I met up with my team, and we all sat in a big cluster next to our gate.

The Butlers would follow us on a public flight shortly after we left, for Minnesota.

We were going to play our first game of the 2013-14 NHL regular season, and I was exited.

Gate 712 now boarding! Called a voice over the loudspeaker, and I got up.

"Fuck, I gotta go to the washroom." I told my teammate, Mike Richards. "And I don't want to use the ones on the plane more than necessary."

"It's OK." Mike told me. "Just go. I won't let them leave without you. We still have about and hour and a half before we disconnect from the gate. The doors just opened, and we still need all of the team equipment loaded."

I nodded my thanks, and left my carry-on luggage with Mike.

I got back from the washroom, and saw that Mike had already boarded the plane, taking my bags with him.

I decided to stay in the airport a bit longer, and wander around, seeing as there was about an hour and a half until the plane disconnected from the gate, and my seat was saved on the plane.

I remembered the flip camera that Shay had given to me for vlogging, and pulled it out of my pocket.

Shay had promised that if I filmed with the camera, he would put some of the footage in the ShayTards vlogs.

"Hey everyone! It's Jake here, and I'm in the airport in LA." I addressed the camera. "I'm in the VIP section, waiting for my flight to Minnesota. My teammates are around, or they have already boarded, but I have an hour and a half before the plane takes off, so I'm just wandering around to relax."

I turned the camera to show the airport, and headed to a store. I bought a pack of gum, and a bottle of water, and turned the camera to face me again.

"Not much to see here! I'll be back when I'm about to board." I said, and shut the camera off.

I went back to the window, looking out at the runways, and sat on one of the benches, as I opened my water. I took a drink, and a plane came taxiing down the runway, ready for takeoff.

I glanced through the other window, and saw a steady stream of bags, all with the LA Kings logo on them, all being pushed out toward our plane on a conveyer belt. I smiled, and leaned back, setting my alarm on my watch for an hour later, and closing my eyes.
