Up and Coming

Chapter 2

I heard my watch beep, and I groaned and sat up. It was 12:00 noon. I had half an hour to get on the plane.

I got up, and made my way toward the gate.

"I take it you're one of the Los Angeles Kings?" Asked the man behind the counter in front of the gate.

"Yes sir." I replied.

"May I ask your name?" He questioned.

"Jake. Jake Belanger." I told him.

He checked something off on his list, and waved me through.

"Have a good flight, and good luck on the road games! The city of LA is rooting for you!" He called after me.

"Thanks! I'll do my best!" I called back, and I stepped into the tunnel.

I pulled out the camera, and turned it on, pointed at my face.

"Hey everyone. I just had a little nap for about an hour in the airport, and now it's 12 noon, and time to board the plane." I said.

I showed the path down the tunnel, and began the walk.

"So today is October 2nd, but this video will probably be up late tomorrow night, so our game in Minnesota will be over by then, or possibly just ending. So by the time this is up on youtube, you might be just in time to catch our game in Winnipeg. That will be on October 4th at 5 PM Pacific time." I informed the camera.

I turned the corner, and the door to the airplane came into view.

"After the game in Winnipeg, we have a few days off I think, and we play at home on the 7th. If you live in LA, come and check it out! It's gonna be a great one!" I said.

"Alright, so here we go, onto the airplane!" I said, as I walked through the doors into the airplane.

I greeted our regular pilots, and headed back into the plane. I found my seat, near the wing of the plane, on the right side, and found Mike Richards, asleep in his seat.

Mike's seat was right next to mine. I had the window seat, and he had the aisle seat.

He was asleep, with the tray pulled down from the back of the seat in front of him, and his laptop was open, with a screen full of movie and TV options that we could watch together during the flight.

We had decided together, as soon as we knew we would sit together, that we would watch movies and TV on Mike's computer, to pass the time.

"Aww. Mike Richards fell asleep on the plane." I said, spinning the camera to face him.

I nudged his shoulder, and he woke up. He let me through, and I sat down in my seat, filming out the window. It looked nice, with all of the planes and lights all over.

"Ok. I'm gonna be back when we are ready to take off." I informed my camera.

I flicked the switch, and the camera turned off.

There was a general murmuring sound traveling throughout the plane, and the whole team seemed exited to travel.

I folded my chair back, seeing as there was nobody sitting behind me or Mike, and relaxed.

"We need some fuckin oxygen in here." Someone said.

There was a murmuring of agreement, and the pilot overheard.

"Sure thing." He said, and headed into the cockpit.

A second later, the plane lurched, and moved a few feet away from the tunnel, letting fresh air in through the doors.

"I'll move it back if someone needs to get on." The pilot said, smiling.

I got out of my seat, and headed for the door, looking down at the pavement below. The door was probably 15 feet off of the ground, and the air outside was cool and crisp. I took a deep breath, and closed my eyes.

"Pretty neat huh?" The pilot asked, coming up behind me.

I nodded my agreement, as I headed back for my seat.
