True North

Does it Mean Anything?

The following chapter is from Dougie's point of view, but is in third person, as it will be in any other instance other than Auden's POV. From here on out it will be posted as *Name*'s POV, but I thought I should make that known.

Wow, I never thought I'd actually have a proper date with this girl. She's the only one night stand I wanted to go somewhere… well, one of the only. That sounds so bad: one night stand. She probably thinks I'm just like the typical hockey player, sleeping around every chance he gets. I'm definitely going to prove her wrong.

Dougie showed up at Auden's dorm to find her waiting outside. Her normally wavy hair, was now pin straight, with a braid on each side of her head, brought from the front and clipped in the back. She was wearing light blue ripped jeans with a simple fitted purple t-shirt. Her belt buckle was rather intriguing… country girl?

"Hey!" Auden greeted, a shy smile spreading across her face.

"Hey, you look wonderful!" Dougie sported the same smile.

"Thank you… you don't look half bad your self." Auden said in a rather flirtatious tone. Dougie opened the door the his car, and Auden hopped in. He closed the door behind her, went around the front, and got in himself. Off they went, by the look on Auden's face, it was obvious she had no idea where they were going.

The twenty minute drive went by painfully slow, and neither talked.

At least I'm not the only one who doesn't know what to say.

Finally, they arrived at TD Garden, a place Auden seemingly knew well.

"This is one of my favourite places!" The excitement in Auden's voice made Dougie laugh.

"Bruins fan, eh?"

"You know it!"

"Do I get bonus points for being on the team?" Dougie inquired playfully.

"Hmm, I'll think about it." Auden said, followed by a wink.

The tension they faced in the car had since faded away, and it was beginning to look like a fun night. Skates were tied, and the two hit the ice. They played around and teased each other for a whole two hours. Suddenly, Dougie picked Auden up, and paraded around the ice with her in his arms bridal style.

"Put me down!" Auden's laugh filled Dougie with joy.

"Oh all right… what do you say we get out of here, and grab something to eat?" Dougie asked.

"Sure!"

They sat on the bench and untied their skates throwing around ideas of where to go. After settling on chinese, they got up, dropped Auden's skates back at the equipment room, and hopped into Dougie's car.

"Okay, my question now… what was your favourite thing to do growing up?" Dougie asked, the two were in the midst of playing 21 questions.

"Well, I did a lot of things growing up, but I would have to say... horse riding."

"Riding eh? Is that why you're so good in bed?" Dougie said playfully.

"Four speeds and many positions, babe!" Auden teased back.

"Oh god, haha. Do you have a horse?"

"I have four, and they're all coming to Boston soon!" Auden may have been a little more excited about her horses than anything else.

"Gunna take me riding then?!" He said as though he wasn't talking about the horses.

"Hm, we'll have to see." Auden said as she looked over at Dougie, flashing him the same teasing smile she had given him time and time again.

With that, Auden leaned over the car console, and met Dougie's lips. She brought her hand up to his hair and began playing with it as he brought his lips down to her neck.

*Beep!*

For fucks sake

Dougie took his lips away from Auden, thinking the message was probably important.

Hey man, checking in to see how shits goin with that girl?

It was Adam.

"Urghh! Sorry, I thought it would be important."

"Haha, it's okay, I should probably get back to my dorm anyway." Auden was rather disappointed.

"Alright." Dougie started the car, and began driving back to Greycliff.

*Auden's POV*

"I want EVERY detail!" I was bombarded by Julie's questions as soon as I entered the room.

"Okay, okay!"

"Start from the beginning."

"Well, he picked me up, then took me to the Garden, and we skated and shit for a couple hours, then grabbed some food, and made out in his car."

"OMG! How did you ever stop?" Julie may or may not have been a little more excited to hear than I was to tell.

"He got a text…" I said noticeably disappointed.

"…The text was more important than his date?"

"Guess so." The questions stopped, and we both got into our pyjamas, and headed for bed.

Before I could fall asleep, Abby texted me with the same questions Julie had. Both had the same reaction about him checking his phone. I understood he was a pro hockey player, but he wasn't the only I'd ever hung out with. All of those guys didn't bother with their phone when I was around, even if we were just friends.

What if he just isn't into it? I asked myself over and over again before deciding to overlook it. If he isn't, oh well.

Just ask I told myself to forget it, my phone buzzed.

Dougie- I had a great time with you tonight, we should get together again soon, ttyl:)

I guess I wasn't forgetting it. Stop reading too much into the phone thing, Auden, it doesn't mean much.

Or did it?

Notes

So. short chapter. I was supposed to work on it this weekend, but I forgot my laptop. So I just wanted to get something up now that I'm home. Even though I didn't get to work on it this weekend, I did have a little time to think of where this story will head, and I have a major plot twist coming about mid regular season that i'm pretty excited about. As said, this story will take off in september/season start as I plan on making this in the moment sorta stuff. I might throw some Junior A in here before then, we'll see. But regardless, these are pretty much filler/development chapters. I'm gunna work on really developing the setting and characters and shit. I'll do my best to make it interesting though!
