True North

What am I Getting Myself Into?

Oh. My. God.

"Umm, no, actually I'm going to school here." My reply was of the awkward kind.

"School here, eh?" Dougie was amused.

"Uhh, yeah."

"Cool! We should get together sometime… let me give you my number." Wait, what? Dougie Hamilton, professional hockey player for my favourite team, was giving me his number. I handed him my phone. "Here ya go!" Dougie said as he handed my phone back to me.

"Thank you…" I had no idea what to do or say. Abby was going to love this. Dougie and his friends walked away, leaving me with just Julie.

"OH MY GOD, YOU KNOW DOUGIE HAMILTON?!" Julie screamed just after they were out of earshot.

"Not really…" It was true, we had only met once, and hadn't gotten to know each other, so to speak.

"He just gave you his number, you must know him somehow."

"It's a long story."

"I like long stories!"

"This one is kind of boring…" I rubbed my forehead whilst speaking, as a I always did when I was put on the spot, or when I'm angry, well… the list goes on. Basically its what I do when I'm anxious.

"It has to do with knowing a professional hockey player, how could this be a boring story?"

There was silence between us, then I decided to speak. "Well, my best friend and I went out one night, and Dougie payed for my drink. To return the favour, he asked me to dance with him, then we went back to my hotel room, and well…"

"YOU SLEPT WITH DOUGIE HAMILTON!" Julie squealed again; people started to stare at me.

Great, I hadn't even been living in Boston for a week, and I was already going to be labelled a puck bunny.

Ab, you'll guess what just happened

Abby had been bugging me about Dougie since I arrived in Boston, I needed to let her know tonight's events right away.

Um, you ran into him?

Of course that was her first guess.

Yeah, how did you know?

Haven't we established this already, I can read your mind. Please, tell me what happened.

It was almost as though it was true. It was a normal occurrence for one of us to know what the other is going to say, before we said it. We just knew each other so well.

Good point. Well, he gave me his number.

OMG! Did you text it?!

And I don't really plan on it

No.

Better get on that girl!

Nahh.

Hold on, I'm FaceTiming you.

Suddenly, my phone beeped, signalling Abby's call. I hit answer, Abby glared at me with disappointment written across her face.

"What do you mean you aren't going to text him?" You would think she was angry...

"I think he was just being nice."

"He plays in the NHL, sees hundreds of fans everyday, and could easily have chosen one of them to give his number too, but he chose to give it to you. He obviously wants to talk to you. So text it!

"What if he just wants to hook up though?"

"You'll never know unless you talk to him! So go text him. right now, Auden." I could sense the humour in her voice.

"Okay mom!" With that, I ended the call.

To text him, or not to text him? I had been staring at his number for a little over half an hour, and couldn't decide if I wanted to hit message.

What else do I have to live for?

Hey, it's Auden!

Shit, shit, shit. Did that sound to peppy? Wait, I don't think he knows my name.

…Like, the girl you met in Toronto… you gave me your number earlier.

Oh god. Any chance of anything, just went completely down the tube. What happened to confident Auden? I thought she had taken over. Back to awkward Auden we go.

Hey! Wasn't too sure if you were gunna text me or not!

Great, he didn't actually want to talk to me.

Oh, sorry haha.

No no, that's not what I meant! Sorry, I always do that :/

Say things that come across as wrong?

Yeah.

Haha, I do that too.

Hey, looks like we have a lot in common already!

He seemed just as awkward as me. I liked it

Guess we do!

So, would you like to meet up sometime?

Don't you have training and stuff?

Was that too bitchy? Oh no.

Not for another two weeks.

Oh, well in that case, sure!

Did I really just agree?

Great, I'll text you later with the plans! Just one question, do you skate?

Huh?

…Yeah

Fantastic!

I put my phone down, and took out my sketch book. I needed to escape my mind for a little while, it was way too scattered for my liking.

Two days later, Dougie still hadn't texted me back. I figured he forgot about me. Abby said he was probably just as nervous as me, but I wasn't convinced. I decided to drop it, and move on to other things. It wasn't a huge shock, guys tended to want nothing to do with me; nothing new. Whatever.

*Beep!*

Of course, make a liar out of me.

Dougie's name flashed on the screen.

Hey beautiful, would tomorrow work for you?

Hey! Looks like it.

Okay, I'm going to pick you up at 6pm!

I'll be ready:)

One question... where do you live?

Guess that would help... Greycliff.

Okay, see ya then!

See ya:)

My phone was set down on my bed. "Julie, I need your help!"

"With what my dear?"

"I need to pick out clothes..."

With that being said, Julie and I looked through all my clothes, and decided on an outfit. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Oh boy.

Notes

\I'm doing my own style from here on out, I think it will make the whole thing less... awkward, as said a million times above. I'm also thinking of possibly making it more into a diary format.. anyone have thoughts? I'm too busy worrying about what people will like right now, I'm having a hard time writing:/ So, I guess we'll see how I do if I relax a little. Thank you to those who subscribed and stuff! I have the day off tomorrow so I plan on spending a lot of time writing... hopefully that'll lead to something good!
Have a great night!:)
