Therapy is Good for the Soul

Chapter 15

“Looks like your daddy wants to talk to us,” Bailey said pulling Marshall into her lap, when her iPad buzzed requesting FaceTime. “Hi Tyler.”

“Hey, how’s my boy?” Marshall perked up at the sound of Tyler’s voice and got close to Bailey’s iPad. “Hey there buddy, are you being a good boy?” Tyler said in a voice that was about 3 octaves higher than how he normally spoke. Marshall immediately started to lick the screen.

“Awww, I guess I’m not the only one who misses you.” Bailey cooed as she pulled Marshall’s face off her screen and wiped it off.

“You miss me?”

“Yes, is that weird?” Bailey questioned since it had only been 4 days since they last saw each other in person, after Tyler’s little movie party. They were going to get together the next day, but Bailey ended up babysitting Alexis at the last minute. Alexis’ dad was in a pinch after the babysitter cancelled and he had to go to work. He didn’t trust just anyone with Alexis, especially since she was sick. Bailey was like a member of the family and couldn’t refuse. Bailey took Marshall with her, hoping he would help make Alexis feel better and it definitely worked. Marshall alone is adorable enough to put a smile on anyone’s face, but knowing he belonged to Tyler made him an even bigger hit with Alexis. Alexis even made Bailey take pictures of the three of them together to send to Tyler. Bailey didn’t know it, but one of those pictures was now the screen saver on his phone. Tyler left early Monday morning for his road trip, so their only communication had been via phone.

“No, I miss you too. Can’t wait to get home tomorrow.”

“What time will you get back?”

“Our flight is scheduled to arrive at 2:15.”

“Do you want to come over for dinner tomorrow night?”

“Sure, I’d love too. “

“Great, we’ll have the whole place to ourselves since Emily won’t be back from her mom’s until late Friday. I’ll cook, after all I owe you what 5 things.”

“Actually it’s 10.” Tyler said with a big grin.

“What? I think you better check your math; you got a hat trick in the first game against the Panthers and scored two goals tonight against Montreal.”

“I did, but I was on the ice and had assists for Marchy’s 2 goals, Bergy’s two, and Chara’s power play goal.”

“So, what does that have to do with the price of eggs? I told Brad I’d make him something if he scored a goal in the first game, but I didn’t say I’d cook more for you if your teammates scored.”

“Actually you did. You said you would cook for me for every point I get on the road trip. I get points for scoring goals as well as assists. So that means you owe me 10.”

“Dagnabit, you tricked me! That’s not fair; you knew what I meant!"

“I asked you if you were sure you meant points at the party and you said yes. You aren’t going back on our deal now are you?” Tyler said with the biggest shit-eating grin across his face.

“No, but that doesn’t mean I’m not mad at you. Heck, your whole team was in on my mistake weren’t they?”

“Pretty much, they told me I need to make more deals with you because I’ve been playing so well. You’re my lucky charm.”

“Whatever. A deals a deal, so what would my favorite charlatan like me to make for dinner?”

“Surprise me.”

“Be careful what you ask for.” Bailey said with a mischievous grin.

“I think I’ll take my chances. What time should I come over?”

“Is 7:00 ok?”

“Perfect. Different subject, how’s Emily doing? You mentioned she went home.”

“She’s ok, I told you she made up with Steven on Sunday, but her future mother-in-law was still driving her nuts. She decided it would be best to put some distance between them before she said something she’d regret to Steven’s mom. She figured her momma might have some good advice on how to handle the drama moving forward.”

“Going home is always therapeutic, hope everything calms down and works out for her.”

“You and me both! I hate to do this, but I have to be at work by 6:00 tomorrow morning so I need to go to bed.”

“Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night. Goodnight Marshall. Sweet dreams Bay.”

“Until tomorrow, Good night and sleep tight.” Bailey blew Tyler a kiss before they disconnected.
