That Summer
I Love You
*Annabella’s POV*
“Are you sure you have to go?” Brendan whined from my bed as I continued to pack. “Yes Brendan. She’s my best friend and I've barely had any time to talk to her since we started college. I need to go see her babe.” I said packing the last thing and zipping up my bag. “It’s only for a week. I’ll be back before you know it and your games will keep you so preoccupied you won’t even know I’m gone.” I said as I laid back in his arms. “I’m used to you being at the games so I’ll notice… especially since I’ll be coming home to an empty, cold bed now.” He pouted as I leaned on my elbows to face him. His puppy dog sad eyes made me want to tell him I wasn't leaving, but I had to see Katie and we’d been planning for me to come to Pittsburgh for a while. “Just go have a sleepover with Max.” I teased as we both laughed. “He’s not as good of a cuddler.” He said as he pulled me down onto his chest. “Well hey, you've got me tonight.” I said as I gave him a quick kiss. “Yes I do… and I’m gonna enjoy it.” He said as he leaned in for another kiss and I knew what was in store for the rest of the night.
A couple of hours later, around 9 o’clock, I woke up and heard light snoring from behind me. I turned my head to see Brendan there, his arms wrapped around me and his lips slightly parted. I could really get used to this being a daily thing I thought as I silently laughed to myself and fell back asleep with a smile on my face.
My alarm went off at around 9:30 the next morning and we both groaned as I pulled back the covers and headed for the shower, making sure to swing my hips a little extra. “Ugh babe… you’re torturing me.” Brendan groaned as he turned over to go back to sleep and I laughed as I shut the bathroom door. About 20 minutes later I got out of the shower and put my yoga pants on along with a tank top and Brendan’s sweatshirt. My flight wasn't until 1:30 so I still had a few hours before I needed to leave. “Good morning.” I said as Brendan came into the kitchen. “Hey.” I said smiling back at him before flipping a pancake. I felt his arms wrap around my waist and his chin on my shoulder. “Mm that smells really good.” He said inhaling the scent deeply. “Well thank you very much.” I said giggling lightly. “See, who’s gonna make me breakfast when you’re gone?!” He asked laughing and squeezing me a little tighter. “Not my problem babe.” I said letting out a sound that was a mix between a laugh and a scoff. “Meanie.” He said before placing his chin back on my shoulder. Soon I felt his lips traveling up and down my neck, “Brendan…” I said sternly. “Hmm?” He asked innocently. “Don’t even start or you get no food.” I threatened with a smirk. “Curse you and your amazing body and pancakes… making me choose. Tsk tsk tsk.” He said furrowing his brow as we headed over to the counter with the pancakes, syrup, and whipped cream.
After about 15 minutes my face was covered with whipped cream and so was his and I was rolling on the floor laughing as he tried to act mad. “Oh don’t be a baby. You know you love it.” I said as I headed to the bathroom so wash the sticky cream off my face. “No, I love you.” He said as he came up behind me. When I looked up at his reflection in the mirror he was looking down and had a nervous and kind of shocked expression on his face and I was a bit shocked myself. We’d only been dating for about 5 months, but if I said I didn't feel the same way I would be lying to myself. He started to bite his lip and I knew he was getting really worried so I calmed his nerves as I let a smile onto my lips, “I love you too Brendan.” I turned around to give him a kiss and was met with whipped cream all over my face once again. A huge grin spread across his face and I laughed. “You wash off your face and I’m gonna go change and rewash my face.” I said as I left the bathroom and headed for my bedroom.
20 minutes later we were on our way to the airport and I was sad but happy at the same time. I hadn't seen Katie since Christmas and I missed her like crazy, but I was going to miss Brendan while I was gone. “I’ll be back super soon.” I said as he pulled me in for a hug once we were at the airport. “Call me when you get there, okay?” He asked as he placed his forehead on mine and looked at me. “Promise.” I said smiling slightly. “I love you Bella.” He said before giving me a kiss. “I love you too Bren.” He let go of me and I headed inside and watched him pull away before heading over to where security was. I sat around in the airport for about an hour before my flight was finally called.
I arrived in Pittsburgh about 3 and a half hours later and was greeted warmly by Katie at the airport and when I looked behind her I saw Beau. “Damn Katie, he’s even more gorgeous than I remember.” I joked as I winked at her and she blushed lightly. “Well he’s all mine, but you can have one of his teammates if you want.” She said laughing and I smiled a bit awkwardly. I still hadn't told Katie that I had a boyfriend, let alone that it was Brendan and that we were pretty serious. “Maybe, maybe not.” I said as we finally got to where Beau was standing. “Hey Beau.” I said as we both leaned in for a hug. “Hey Annabella, nice to see you again.” He said as he pulled away. “Nice to see you too, it’s been awhile.” I said as we headed to the exit. “Yeah it’s been too long.” He said as he wrapped one arm around Katie and the other around me. “Yeah ever since the team found out I had a girlfriend they won’t leave Katie alone.” He joked as we all laughed. “Yeah and when they saw a picture of you I’m pretty sure a couple of them fell in love with you, including Captain Canada himself.” She joked and they both laughed. “Well, I don’t think my boyfriend would like that.” I said without thinking. Once I realized what I had said my eyes got wide and when I looked at the two of them Katie looked shocked and Beau looked a little confused. “We can talk about it later Kay.” I said as Beau opened the trunk and put my bag in. She still looked pretty shocked as we all piled into Beau’s car, but she was trying to hide it.
This is gonna be interesting.
