That Summer

I'm Sorry

Katie's POV

"What's wrong baby?" I asked Beau as I sat next to him on the couch. His head was in his hands and when he looked up, he looked like he hadn't slept in weeks. I rubbed his shoulder. "Beau. Seriously. What's wrong." He put his hand on mine, gesturing me to stop rubbing his shoulder. "Nervous for the game, that's all." He said. He rubbed his bloodshot eyes and tried to smile. "Why don't you go back to bed sweety?" I asked him. "Because....I haven't been sleeping for the past few nights anyways. I can't sleep." Beau's face showed he needed sleep more than anything. I don't know how he was playing so well already. Adreneline maybe? He hasn't slept since the playoffs started. Pittsburgh was playing Montreal in the playoffs and whoever won the game tomorrow night advanced to the next round. Of course it was a chance for Annabella and I to see each othet but we had our rivalries. And Beau was too focused to even pay attention to anything else.

"Well I'm sorry Beau, after you guys win tomorrow night I'm sure you'll sleep like a baby. Now I'll go make you some breakfast." I kissed Beau on the cheek and went into the kitchen.
James was standing there in his pajamas still making coffee. "Good morning James" I said as I stood next to him getting two more cups. "Jeez you scared me Katie. You came out of no where." I smiled and dumped the sugar into the cups. "Sorry James....hey can I ask you for a favor?" He stopped what he was doing and looked at me. "Ask away" "Can you talk to Beau? He is really nervous for tomorrow night and I think it would help if you tried to calm him down." I.stared at my feet before looking back up at him. "Sure. I'll be glad to. He has played so well so far. I don't see why he is as nervous as he is" I chuckled and agreed. "Yah I don't know either" James smiled and picked up his coffee off the counter, "See you in the living room Katie" I smiled and turned back to face the counters. I totally had forgotten what I was doing. It took me a second before I continued to make the boys breakfast.

James and Beau left for practice about an hour ago. Finals were last week and classes were over so that meant I couldn't hang with any of my college friends. Annabella was arriving in Pittsburgh tonight so I had no one to hang with until then. Beau was too busy practicing and the only time I got to see him was when he was too tired to do anything. Even though I wanted Beau to win more than anything, I couldn't wait for the season to be over. Beau would his normal happy self again. And also, he is taking me to meet his family in California. Now I haven't told my parents yet, but I figured that on our way we could stop in Arizona for a surprise visit and that's when I'd introduce them to Beau. It was the perfect plan. I couldn't wait to meet his family and stay in his house with them. I was definitley more excited about that then Beau. All he did was brag about how his family had a private beach. Hopefully we'll be bringing the cup there too.

I sighed as I sat back and sunk on the couch. This summer was going to be fun. With the thoughts of all the activities me and Beau would be doing in California, I fell into a sweet and pleasant sleep.

Game day. Nothing else to think about other than hockey. Sitting next to Annabella watching our boyfriends playing hockey was rather difficult. We got in more than a few arguments. Maybe an insult on eachothers boyfriends and a lot of screaming at the refs. Annabella knows that I love her to death and I know she loves me but during these games people would have thought we were pure enemies. Montreal has been leading the game by one all night and at 30 seconds left it wasn't looking good for Pittsburgh. I had stopped my bickering and shut up. Mostly because I couldn't scream anymore but also because I was praying. Beau and the rest of 'em needed to win so badly. I saw the look on Beau's face this morning and he deserved to win. The whole team played their hearts out. 3. 2. 1. The buzzer rang. I looked at the score board. 4-3, Final score. I expected Annabella to start yelling in my face and making fun of me but instead she hugged me and said "Good game Katie." I smiled but was too busy to even hug her back. My attention was focused on Beau. Even through his helmet I could see the look of defeat on his face. I felt so bad for him at that moment. He hadn't slept at all for this! It wasn't fair.

About an hour or so later, I saw Beau and Neal come out of the locker room. "Great job boys" I said hugging them at the same time. They smiled rather sadly. As we walked out to the car I wrapped my arm around Beau's waist. "I'm sorry Beau"
