Flightless

If you're calling me out, then count me out.

"Where are we headed now?" I asked Jordan after finishing our meal. We'd been driving for about ten minutes and I was understandably lost.

A simple answer of, "Home," was all I received, along with his trademark smirking half smile as he stole a glance across the car.

Why? What did I do? I'd received a reply message from Lucy.

Oh I don't know, maybe tell Jordan my ring size? Sound familiar? I thought u were on my side with this!

"Who you talking to Ray?"

Taking my eyes from the screen of my phone as I hit send I saw Jordan looking at me curiously while we were stopped at a red light. Good timing for him or what? "Just making plans to get busy with my other fiancé when you're at morning skate tomorrow," I grinned at him before blowing a kiss in his direction when he scowled.

Well technically I didn't actually tell him - Max passed the details on :p

"Relax Jor, it's only Lucy. She's just added her beloved Maxime to my 'shit list'."

Like that's any better. The boy's already persistent enough, he doesn't need u encouraging him.

As expected Jordan questioned my statement. The only answer he got was me raising the offending ring finger in his periphery. "Oh. You figured that out then," he let out a little nervous laugh. "To be fair, I'd already picked out the ring and I just wanted it to fit when I gave it to you."

He was already going to buy it anyway. And I know he's growing on u!

He quietened as he pulled the car into a parking spot some place that definitely wasn't my building. Ignoring my skeptical look he exited the car, grabbing his gear bag out of the boot and waiting for me to join him.

Unfortunately. To both..

"I thought you were taking me home?" I followed him into the building, not really having any other options.

"Yup," he grinned down at me, quickly leaning forward to surprise me with a sweet kiss while we waited for the lift.

I had to stifle a laugh when he pressed the button for the 11th floor. "Coincidence?"

"Maybe..." was drawn out, eyes looking shiftily from one side of the metal box to the other, then back again, before he broke out into laughter. "It's how I knew this place was the right apartment for me, even if it is incredibly cheesy and the guys always tease me for it."

I nodded as I could see the guys from the team that I'd met doing just that. "Aw Jor, you are just too cute! Insane, but cute."

After a quick tour of his obvious bachelor pad we settled down into probably the most comfortable couch I'd ever been on. It was soft enough to sink down into the plushness, but still firm enough that you didn't feel you'd be swallowed alive, plus it was wide enough for both of us to comfortably lie together - which was what ended up happening as we watched Die Hard.

Jordan's left hand was entwined with mine lying over my waist, occasionally separating so he could play with my fingers. "You know I spent the whole trip to Philly online looking at rings?" he caught me off guard, the quiet confession coming from seemingly nowhere. "I had no idea what I was looking for, what you'd like, but as soon as I saw this one," he paused to raise said ring to his lips, "I knew it was perfect."

Forgetting about the movie I turned to face him, curious to see what else he had to declare. "I never believed in love at first sight until I saw you. I was perfectly content with hook-up's and casual dating. And then I looked up into the crowd as I skated to the bench before overtime started and you were there talking to Lucy, eyes wide and excited. I knew I had to meet you. Then when Max started yelling and I turned and saw it was you - I was so nervous going over there. Hearing your voice, baby you have no idea what your accent does to me."

By now I was burying my head in his chest, not really sure if I wanted to believe what he was saying, let alone the proof of his emotions that laced each word he spoke.

His hand ran lazily up and down my spine as he continued. "Seeing you walking around in just my jersey was torture, especially with TK and Tanger there enjoying the view as well. And then when you kissed Tanger's cheek, I wanted to deck the guy.

"I've never been this into a girl, Ray, and it scares me that I've only known you a few days - but I was serious when I proposed. And just so you know, I don't believe in divorce, so if we do this it's forever."

Gently prying my head from its comfortable resting place, Jordan locked his soft gaze with mine. "I know you think I'm crazy for doing this, but I need you to know I'm serious. I'm completely in love with you and I can see us old and grey, looking after our grandkids. I don't expect you to feel the same right now, but I need this chance. Give me a real shot?"

Notes

In case you haven't noticed yet.. Jordan comes with a full side of cheese in this story.
