To New Beginnings

The next two weeks flew by. I didn't think I was going to have everything done in time, but I amazed myself. Everything was already sent to my new place in Pittsburgh, and all I had to do was wait for my flight. My mother insisted that she would take me to the airport, so I drove to her house a few hours before.

I walked up to the front door and let myself in. "I'm here mom!" I called out as I walked through the door.

"Come in, I'm in the kitchen!" I heard her call back. I headed to the kitchen and greeted my mom with a hug.

"Oh Hun, are you sure you want to move all the way across the country?" she asked with a sad look on her face.

"Sorry mom, too late for second thoughts." I answered back.

"I really wish you and Scott would have made up. I liked him."

"Mom!" I scolded.

"What? He was a sweet guy!"

"'Was' being the key word. He cheated on me, how could you expect me to forgive that!"

"Well... I forgave your father."

"I know, but I'm not just going to pretend like what he did was okay. Besides, I'm sure Pittsburgh will be great, and I'll meet an even sweeter guy that you will like even more. And he won't break my heart." I said, drifting off into dreamland.

"You better, I do want grandchildren you know!" she said smiling.

"Lets just get me to Pittsburgh first, and then just maybe we can talk about grandchildren!"

We made our way out to the car and headed to LAX. On the way to the airport, I began getting more nervous. Thoughts were running wild through my mind. I was nervous for my new job. Maybe it was the fact that I would be working for the Penguins. I was a hockey fan. I grew up with the sport as a Kings fan, so I knew a thing or two. I wondered if I would meet Sidney Crosby. Just then, my mother's voice interrupted my thoughts.

"Earth to Kate!" she said, waving her hand in front of my face. When I snapped out of it, she told me we were there.

"Sorry, I was just thinking." I said.

"Always daydreaming." she said jokingly, shaking her head.

I grabbed the luggage I packed, so I would at least have some clothes and toiletries out when I got to Pittsburgh.

"Well..." my mother said sadly. "You call me as soon as you land. Let me know what's going on. If you need me, I'll be on the next flight out!"

"Ok mom, I will! I love you!" I said, giving her a big hug. I almost didn't want to let go.

My flight was long, but I arrived in Pittsburgh around 9pm. After finally getting my luggage, I hailed a taxi and gave him the address to my new place. I was exhausted, but excited to get to see what my new apartment was like. We arrived fifteen minutes later. I paid the cab fare and grabbed my luggage and headed up to the fourth floor. On the way up I felt bad for the movers for having to haul all of my belongings up the flights of stairs. The apartment seemed nice. The kitchen was a pretty decent size and had granite counter tops. I always loved that in kitchens. The living room already had my couches, and boxes were everywhere. I finally made my way into the bedroom. It was pretty big, and had a nice sized walk in closet. I decided that the jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom was going to be my new best friend. After exploring my new apartment I made my way onto the balcony that was attached to my bedroom and took in the view of the city. It was gorgeous, and all I could do was smile at the thought that I was starting fresh. I felt relieved. My new job was starting in less than a week and best of all, I wouldn't have to see Scott. After a few minutes, I went back in to get some sleep. I was happy that my bed was already there. I felt like as soon as my head hit the pillow, I was off into dreamland.

Thank you! I'm actually working on chapter 5 right now. I got re-motivated. It should be up soon!
