To New Beginnings

The next few days before my first day of work went quickly. I pretty much had all of my stuff unpacked and the apartment was starting to look more like a home instead of a storage container.

I made sure I got a rental car, since mine was still in Los Angeles. Thank God for navigation systems. I wasn't the greatest with driving directions and I was sure I would have gotten lost on the way to work without it.

I got to work pretty early so that I could figure out what I was doing. I met with my boss, who I was going to be working with a lot more than my last boss.

"Hi Kate, it's nice to finally meet you! I'm Abby, we spoke on the phone a few times."

"Nice to meet you too!" she already seemed nice. I felt like we would get along pretty well. She explained to me that I came at the perfect time because they were about to plan an event for the promotion of the new arena.

After Abby gave me the rundown of what we would be doing, she showed me to my office so I could get settled in.

Just as I sat down at my desk, I got a text.

"Please just let me talk to you. I'm going crazy without you here."

Scott. Ugh. Just when I thought I was making progress, he re-inserts himself into my life and turns my world upside down again. I felt tears welling up in my eyes. I tried to rush to the bathroom for some tissue before anyone saw me when it hit me like a brick wall. Literally. Startled, shocked and completely mortified, I stood up after being knocked flat on my ass. What a great way to start out.

Kris' POV-

I stood there for a second not knowing what just hit me. Looking down, I didn't even think twice when I reached out my hand to help up this girl that had just run into me. She was gorgeous. Long, wavy brown hair and greenish hazel eyes. When she stood up I noticed she looked distraught.

"Are you alright?" I ask, picking up our phones which were both knocked out of our hands.

"I'm just...I uh, I'm ok." she said taking her phone. "Thank you."

"I'm Kristopher. Or just Kris." I introduced myself.

"I'm Kate. Nice to meet you." she said with a smile.

"I will see you around I hope." I said after a somewhat awkward moment of silence as we both went our separate ways. I was curious as to why she looked so upset, but I didn't feel it was my business to ask. I figured I would see her again.

Kate's POV-

Oh my good God. Did I really just run into Kris Letang and fall on my ass? I was so embarrassed I think I must have been 10 different shades of red. He must think I'm some kind of klutz. I composed myself in the bathroom and headed back to my office.

After work, I drove home and just wanted to relax. The day was interesting to say the least. As soon as I got to my apartment, my phone started ringing.

"Hello?" I answered stupidly without looking at the caller ID.

"Uhm...Hi?" the voice on the other end answered.

Shit, who the hell? "Uh...who is this?" I asked, confused.

"Sid...uhh is Kris there?"

Sid…Sid…SID? My mind was going absolutely crazy. I was trying not to go into panic mode. Kris must have given me his phone by mistake when I made a fool of myself. “Oh sorry, actually, I have his phone by mistake…” I said, trying not to sound stupid.

“By mistake?” He asked, confused now.

“Well yeah. I just started my new job today, and I kind of ran into Kris. We dropped our phones and he handed me his phone by mistake. They look exactly the same, because they are both… so…yeah…Classic mix-up.” I rambled, smacking myself in the forehead and closing my eyes. Classic mix-up? By now I was pacing around my kitchen.

“Oh, got it. So I guess…I’ll get a hold of him later or something…”

“Ok...” I said back and hung up. I felt like a complete idiot. I needed to get a hold of Kris so we could trade back phones. I’d just call mine from his, hoping he’d answer.

“Hello?” He answered. His accent was thick.

“Hi, Kris? This is Kate…”

“Ah yes, I figured I would hear from you soon.” He replied back.

“I picked up a call not thinking. It was Sid? I think I confused him. Maybe we can meet up so we can trade back?” I said. I heard him let out a laugh when I mentioned that I answered Sid’s phone call.

“How about we go out to dinner tonight?” he asked.

“Ok, that sounds good.” I was doing back flips in my head.

“Should I pick you up? Is 7 okay?”

“Yeah, that would be great!” I answered. I gave him my address so he could find my place.

“See you soon.” He said, and then we hung up.

Thank you! I'm actually working on chapter 5 right now. I got re-motivated. It should be up soon!
