Savannah

One.

"Savannah, you work too much."

"I'm doing it for Mom and Dad. You know that, Coop."

"Take a break, go to school."

Savannah sighed, her brother didn't understand. Growing up, Savannah felt obligated to do things for her parents. They were a wealthy family, they had been for generations, but her parents never took that for granted. They allowed their two children to do whatever they wanted to do, so Cooper went off to North Carolina for College while Savannah stayed back, working at the family Boutique.

Her job was her life. She ran that place. She didn't go to school, figuring she'd continue the family legacy of running a business, and she didn't have a boyfriend. She barely had any friends. Abby Hamilton had been her friend since the two were in diapers. Their fathers, best of friends, had grown up together in Dallas too. Abby had ditched Savannah as well, going off to North Carolina with her boyfriend, Savannah's twin, Cooper.

"I don't want to go to school. I like what I do. I don't need a degree to do this. Daddy's taught me everything I need to know." She defended. She didn't want to admit she was getting sick of the same routine every day. She couldn't. She made a promise to her parents, she'd be fine without an education and she's run the store for as long as she could.

Cooper sighed, unable to get through to his sister. They'd been inseparable growing up, he could read her like a book. Savannah was head-strong; he knew she'd never give in.

The two of them sat at the desk in their boutique on the slow Sunday morning, eating breakfast and watching the people walk around town outside. They had to enjoy these last moments together since Cooper would be heading back to college at the end of September. Savannah couldn't help but feel a bit abandoned by him sometimes, he leaves her every year. 21 years together and he still leaves.

"I've gotta run, I have to meet Abby to sign apartment papers." Cooper frowned, gathering his trash and grabbing a bottle of Sweet Tea for the road.

Savannah rolled her eyes, "Ditching me again, Coop?" She smirked. Her brother chuckled, giving her a playful push before hugging her goodbye.

She sat there alone for a short time, glancing around the cold, colorful store. She had already unloaded the new shipments for the day and calculated the month's earnings so far and it was only 11 am.

The door creaked open and Savannah glanced up from her book, greeting a young, tattooed guy with a smile. "Hi, welcome."

"Hi." He smiled, walking around the store alone. It made her nervous being alone in the store with a guy, so she made sure the gun her Daddy bought her was on the shelf by her leg.

"Looking for anything in particular?" She asked nervously. He turned to her, shrugging. "Not really, no. I'm new to Dallas so I'm showing myself around."

"We have men's clothing toward the back," She said, "You're in the women's section right now."

"Oh," He chuckled, "That's why these shirts look so small."

The guy walked to the back and Savannah eyed him. Occasionally, he'd glance over to her and smile, which made her even more nervous. She almost picked up the gun and held it in case, but she told herself everything would be okay. He didn't look shady, she was just a wimp.

The guy picked out a few collard shirts, walking to the counter. "Can I try these on?"

"Sure, let me get the key." She smiled. She grabbed the set of keys and led him to the very back. "So where are you from?"

"Boston, I mean, Toronto, well...it's complicated." He frowned.

Savannah didn't know what to think. Boston then Toronto? Made no sense to her.

"Oh." She said simply. "Well, welcome to Texas."

"Thanks." He smiled, walking into he dressing room she opened for him.

Minutes passed and out came the guy, holding all four shirts he tried on. "How'd those fit?" Savannah asked from her counter. He grinned, walking toward her and setting the shirts down.

"Great. I'll take them all."

That surprised her. She knew her parents Boutique wasn't cheap, and he picked out the shirts imported from Europe, which made them even more expensive.

"Your total comes to $378.56" She said nervously. Immediately, he whipped out his wallet and slid his credit card.

"Would you like to sign up for our rewards program? I don't mean to be annoying, but this is family owned, and we always give out discounts to members. We won't bug you with emails or anything."

He grinned, leaning on the counter. "How does it work?"

"We register you in the computer and if you come back, you give us your name and if you're in the computer, you get a discount."

"Okay. I'll do it." He smiled, looking into her eyes.

"Great. So, can I get your name?"

"Tyler...Tyler Seguin."
