Love Is All You Need

The next day Liz laid in bed surrounded by her books, the events of the past few days had taken precedence over school work but she figured that she should at least get something done on her day off. Flipping through the pages of one of her textbooks, she felt her phone vibrate on the bed beside her. grabbing it she answered without looking at the screen.
"Hello?"
"Hey there stranger." Fred's voice on the other end of the phone elicited a smile from her, not having talked to him in a while.
"Why hello good sir, how are you?"
"Meh, can't complain. What about you little miss skipping class like a rebel?"
She was silent, forgetting that she had missed class yesterday and hadn't told Fred she wouldn't be there. Her mind raced with whether she should tell him or not.
"Uh, yeah. Huge rebel." Was the only thing she could think of to say at that moment.
"You suck at lying, you know that right?" She sighed and ran her free hand over her face and up into her hair.
"What's up Liz, is it Adam?"
She was silent for a second, mentally deciding that he was one of her closest friends here in Boston and she knew she could trust him.
"He's got something to do with it, yeah."
"Do I need to beat him up?" The tone of his voice took a more serious turn.
She chuckled lightly. "Probably not."
"Then what is it?"
"Are you sitting down?"
"Liz, what the hell? I'll beat him up. I'm stronger than I look."
"You probably shouldn't beat up my kids dad."
The other end of the phone was silent as he processed what she had just said.
"Holy shit." She heard him breathe out a few moments later. "You're pregnant?"
"Yeah…"
"You're keeping it?"
"Yeah."
He was silent on the other end of the phone again and she heard him let out a contained breath.
"Does he know?"
"Yeah, that's why I wasn't in class yesterday. It was an emotional day."
"Shit, Liz."
"We haven't really told anyone yet, so don't tell Ty yet."
"Yeah, yeah, sure thing." He paused for a moment and the line was silent. "You okay?"
"I'll be fine Freddy."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
"Okay. I'll bring you notes tomorrow if you want?"
"That would be awesome. See you tomorrow."
"See ya."

A couple hours later Liz's books were still surrounding her, but the only difference was she was fast asleep in the middle of them. The door to her room opened and she didn't notice at all. Adam peeked his head around the door frame taking in her sleeping figure and smiled lightly. Entering the room he quietly closed the door behind him making sure not to wake her. Walking over to the side of the bed he grabbed the books and placed them on her desk across the room before grabbing a blanket from the chair and heading back over to her. Crawling in beside her, he threw the blanket on them before gently manoeuvring her so her head was resting on his chest. Even though he had tried his best not to wake her, he watched as her eyes opened and her bright blue orbs sleepily stared up at him.
"Go back to sleep." He said quietly and kissed her forehead.
"Okay." She put up no fight as she snuggled into his side and quickly fell back asleep.
Adam nestled his nose into her hair and closed his eyes as well. It had been a long morning practice and he was still processing everything that had happened over the past couple days. He hadn't told the rest of the guys yet, but both Andrew and Greg had made sure to ask him how he was doing at some point over the morning and he answered his customary 'good' to both of them. Truth be told, he was scared shitless. If there was a way to be scared more than shitless, that would be him at the moment. He had no idea how to be a dad. He barely knew how to be a good boyfriend let alone throwing a kid into the mix of things. So many uncertainties flew through his mind whenever he thought about it. What were his parents going to think? What were her parents going to think? Sure, they loved him when he was the sweet boyfriend surprising her at Christmas, but would they think the same of him when he was the guy who knocked her up in under a year? What were his coaches going to say? How was this going to affect his spot on the team? He knew a lot of the other guys on the team all had kids, but at least they knew what they were doing.
Liz moved in his arms and he looked down at her as she moved one of her hands to rest on his chest. Suddenly his brain stopped over calculating everything and focused on the sleeping brunette in his arms. With that one small movement, she seemed to calm him without even trying. He thought back to all the times that he would call her late at night after a bad game and completely unload on her and even though she was half asleep she took everything in and still seemed to manage to calm him down, even if he was across the country. He knew there was something special about her, he just wasn't so sure why he was lucky enough to have her. He would be lying if he said that he hadn't thought about starting a family with her one day, but sometimes life has a funny way of working itself out. Maybe there was a higher power working things out like this? Maybe this was the way it was meant to be and he just didn't know it yet. Looking back down at her he lightly pressed his lips to her forehead. She stirred again, but this time she was awake. Her sleepy eyes looked up at him as she ran her hand across his chest.
"Whatcha thinking about?"
"Lot's of stuff?"
"What kind of stuff?"
"Too much stuff."
She traced small patterns across his chest as she continued to look up at him and sighed slightly.
"Don't over think it. If you do, you're going to go crazy."
"It's hard not to. There's just so much…" He trailed off.
"I know. Trust me, I've thought it all over too."
Adam let out a big sigh and shook his head slightly. "You don't seem like you're going nearly as crazy as me."
"I've realized there's nothing to go crazy about. I've got you, we can get through it together."
"Yeah?"
"Of course."
"You've got a lot of faith in me," he chuckled lightly and let out a small smile.
She returned his smile and let the hand that was on his chest slide up to cup the side of his face.
"I love you, so I've already put my faith in you." She ran her thumb across his scruff.
"You always know what to say, you know that?"
She leaned up and kissed the underside of his jaw, sliding her hand back down so it was resting on his chest again.
"It's a talent." She said with a slight smile.
He laced his fingers with hers on the hand that was resting on his chest and pressed his cheek to the top of her head. He could tell she was still exhausted and after finally being able to stop his racing mind, he was finally ready to fall asleep too.
"We're gonna be fine, right?" Her quiet voice asked, less as a question and more as a reassurance for him.
"Yeah, of course we are." Letting out a deep breath he finally closed his eyes and just as he could feel himself drifting off to sleep, he heard her small voice in just above a whisper.
"I love you."

Notes

super super super super short! BUT I wanted to give you guys SOMETHING to tie you over!
I PROMISE that the next one will have some more fun drama-y stuff in it, I just need to find the time to get it written!

I figured since I hadn't put Fred in there lately I'd give you some more of him and a switch-a-roo and give you some of Adam's thoughts!

I HOPE YOU ENJOY!
YOU'RE ALL FANTASTIC.
I L-O-V-E YOUUUUU!

oh, comments are lovely. :)

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
