Nineteen
Ch. 1
It is a windy Sunday morning in Chicago. The busy streets and scrambling pedestrians fill the street. Kelsey and Hanna stroll across the street heading towards a Starbucks.
"-its just that I don't get what's so great about him." Hanna says while opening the door to the café. "So many girls are obsessed with him, when they don't know one thing about Toews!" As the girls wait in line, they discuss the players on the Blackhawks team. "I still cant believe you were friends with Jonathan," Hanna says. "I mean its crazy." Kelsey squints at Hanna. "why? we were friends, its not like we still are." "But still, he's all famous and shit."
"what would you two like today?" The Starbucks worker asks. "uhh, we'll take a grande caramel Frappuccino, and a grande chai tea latte." Kelsey says and hands the cashier her credit card. As they wait for their coffees, Hanna brings up Jonathan Toews again. "Why didn't you two stay in touch?" She asks. Kelsey shrugs and says "I guess he was getting serious with hockey and forgot about me. plus, when I moved over here I was so wrapped up in 'the American lifestyle'" Hanna laughs "The American lifestyle is bullshit. But do you think he forgot about you?" Kelsey becomes silent and thinks. "hmm, I don't know. I mean we have been best friends since we were babies. could you forget someone you were so close with for 14 years?"
The Starbucks worker calls their names. Kelsey goes and grabs the two coffees and when she turns around, she bumps into a guy. "sorry!" she says, then flinches in shock. It was Jonathan Toews. "uh no worries." he says smiling. "it was my fault." Kelsey looks at him in shock. Jonathan looks back at her, puzzled. "Sorry, you look familiar." he says. "Im Kelsey Johnson." she says uncomfortably. Jonathan Toews looks at her in disbelief. "Wow, what a small world..you remember me, right? I'm Jonathan." Kelsey nods and smiles. "How could I forget?" Jonathan looks at the time on his phone. "Look, I have to go. It was really nice seeing you! whats your number?" Jonathan gives Kelsey his Iphone and she adds herself as a contact. "Ill call you, Bye Kelsey" He says while leaving.
Kelsey walks back to Hanna with the coffees. "Okay that was weird. that was really, really weird.." She mumbles. "What the hell happened? did he recognize you?" Hanna says, excited. "Yeah, he remembered me. I gave him my number." Kelsey said smiling.
