Captains Come First

Chapter 28

The boys rolled on taking both a loss and a win. Beating Montreal 5-1 at home Heather was relieved. She knew it'd make their late night flight to New York to face the isles that much easier. Grabbing the seat next to Tanger on the plane across from Sid and Flower Heather grabbed her kindle out for some reading. "Hey Mama go sit with Adams if you want to read." Tanger laughed. "This is gamer zone."

"Oh no, Sid is going to see a lot of me on this trip." Heather said with an evil smirk. "He did almost ship me off to the Isles after all." She said catching his glance.

"Ouch Cappy" Flower said pretending like he was shot. "Are you going to let her chirp you like that?"

"You're rooming with me for that one." Sid said winking at her. "I'll show her what's good for her." He said grinning.

"Oh you'll show her what's good for her, all night long!" Flower said while miming swatting a girl's behind humping the air.

"You boys are ridiculous." Heather said laughing and getting up going towards the back of the plane.

"Too much man for you huh?" Tanger called back as Heather shook her head. She took the seat beside James and he immediately put down his PSP.

"Not gaming tonight?" She asked him smiling.

"Nope." He said putting an arm around Heather leaning into her. "Thought I'd take some time with my beautiful girlfriend." He whispered in her ear making Heather smile. "So it looks like you had some fun with Beau and Bortz the other day." He said pulling out his phone to show her the picture. Heather's jaw dropped.

"James I swear I didn't know." She said raising her hands. "I'm going to kill those shits." She said starting to get up.

"Relax, it's ok. They're just trying to fish for information. Rumour has it there's bets going on which one of us you're really with." James said smiling. "They're just trying to mess me up so that they win." He said. "So you my dear are going to mess with them." He said brushing her hair to the side placing a kiss on her neck.

"Mess them up how?" Heather asked confused looking at James handsome bespectacled face. "Well." He said taking his glasses off sticking one of the glasses arms between his teeth "Just when they think it's me, you're going to convince them it's Sid." He said smiling.

"James you are positively evil." She said laughing.

"Oh come on, you know it'll be fun." James said to her.

"I've got a better idea." Heather said raising her eyebrows. "How about I really confuse them and give Coach Bylsma a lap dance." Heather laughed. "Seriously James you're deranged." Heather shook her head with a smile.

" You know you love it." James said squeezing her leg. "Now go blow in Cappy's ear and mess him up." He said smiling

"Brooksie pass me my hand cream please?" Heather said crawling into her bed at the hotel.

"Sure." He said passing the tube to her. "Did you remember take out your contacts?" He asked her as he crawled into bed.

"Yep." Heather said pointing to the glasses on her face. "Where's your water in case you get thirsty tonight?" Heather asked putting her book down on the bedside table. He held up his water showing her. "You'd think we were married." She joked.

"Perhaps in another lifetime." He said snuggling into her. "We do have a strange understanding of each other." He agreed.

"You remind me of Andy and me when things were actually good." Heather smiled at the memory.

"Can I ask what happened?" He asked giving her a slight squeeze. "You don't have to say." He added.

"No I'm fine with it. I don't know. When he was playing for Toronto we tried it out. It was like we were better off as friends. We respected each other more. Then he met his wife and it was all over." Heather said sounding distant. "He moved on without me. I like his wife but she's always felt a bit threatened by me."

"What girl wouldn't?" Brooks asked kissing her forehead. "Your smokin baby."

"It's not that." She said. "I think the fact that we have Avery and knows I'll always be around somehow bothers her. I'd marry Andy in a second if he asked." She said quietly.

"Hmm" he said rubbing his chin. "So by process of elimination you'd marry me in a second" Brooks smiled. Heather just smiled and didn't answer his question. There was a pause as she just looked into his eyes. "What is it Hun?" He asked her.

"Can you keep a secret?" She asked Brooks quietly.

"Sure, anything." He said to her. "You know you don't even need to ask." He said to her kissing her knuckles.

"James and I have been seeing eachother." She said looking down at their joined hands. "We're in a relationship."

"No shit?" He said smiling a bit surprised "and here I was thinking that Sid was winning the battle for your heart." He smiled.

"Well this is the problem. I thought that I was over my feelings for Sid. He's made it clear I'd have to quit being a specialist if I was to be with him." Heather said sadly. "And I don't want to quit." She added sounding sad.

"And you shouldn't have to." Brooks said honestly. "Can I give you my opinion?"

"Sure." Heather said sitting up wrapping her arms around her knees as he sat up and rubbed her back.

"James was there for you when you needed him. You feel indebted for that. I'm sure you're attracted to him. He's a great guy. But I think that you truly love Sid. You're just afraid of having to quit." He said to her. "It comes down to what's more important, your heart," he paused placing his hand where her heart was "or your career." He said before he kissed her tenderly on the mouth. His tongue massaged hers lightly burning a fire within her. She knew Brooks was right.

"I think I'm really falling for James. He's sweet, makes me laugh, he's a lot of fun." Heather said smiling.

"And isn't Sid seeing somebody? Veronica? Vera? " he said confused.

"Vanessa." Heather said sighing.

"I sense some hostility." Brooks said with a laugh massaging a shoulder kissing her neck.

"Well, it's just that he told me he's only doing it for his agents." Heather said making a face. "It's not real." She added. "His people don't think much of me." She added quietly.

"Heather I know we've had this conversation before." He said to her laying her down. "I do think that you need to be honest with Sid though. Who knows, he could fall for this girl." He added. The thought stung. She hadn't thought of that. "Or I just have a really simple answer." Brooks said laying over her in a push-up position.

"Really?" Heather asked hopefully as he began to undo the buttons on the flannel pyjama top. "What is it?" She asked as he slid her panties down her body.

"You, my wife and I join a polygamist cult?" He said laughing.

"Very funny." Heather said as he kissed her again. "Then my parents would likely never see me again." She laughed then paused for a second. "Although that idea does have it's merits." She smiled. Their kissing intensified as Heather reached to undo the matching pants that he wore that went with her top. Releasing his cock she brushed her hand over his length causing him to moan into her lips. His hand caressed her breast needfully, not only like he wanted to touch her but needed to. His other hand went down to her slick folds parting them gently feeling her wetness urging her further. He broke the kiss brushing her hair out of her eyes as he slid in slowly feeling every little bit of her pussy walls close around him. He loved to see her reaction and feel her tighten. He enjoyed it almost as much as sex with his wife, although he was the first to admit due to his schedule he seemed to get it more from Heather than from his own wife. Brooks thrust deeply

"Brooksie." Heather said breathlessly "oh god Brooksie." She continued as he thrusted. If anyone else called him that they'd likely get a slap. But he loved when she called him that. His hand reached between them to her hot button. As he stroked it lightly Heather's breath sped up. Heather enjoyed every moment of pleasure that came to her. It was almost like making love but not quite. She wouldn't cross that line, not with Brooks. She grabbed his shoulders and buried her lips in the crook of his neck she nibbled and sucked lightly taking his thrusts. Suddenly he felt her walls shuddering closing in on him. "Fuck Brooksie." She said as she came. A couple more thrusts and he was able to find his own completion saying her name over and over again. He withdrew kissing her forehead and rolling over next to her.

"James is a lucky man." He whispered to her. "He'd better be good to you." He said as they went off to sleep.

-----

Heather awoke at 6 am the next morning unable to figure out why. Her phone wasn't going off, Brooks was sleeping soundly, there was no reason she should be up. She had this feeling like something was wrong. She didn't know what, but something was up. She got up and put on sweats and a hoodie wandering down to the lobby just because. She had no idea what would meet her there. She passed a small meeting room where she heard the familiar voice of Dan Bylsma. It sounded like he was on a conference call with Mario. The door was ajar and she saw Sidney sitting there obviously distraught. This had to be what was wrong. Something to do with Sid. 'Oh God, not his head' was the first thing that Heather thought. She listened at the door until Sid caught her looking. His eyes had tears in them and he waved her in. Dan turned around seeing who it was and smiled at her.

"Mario, I'm sure Heather would accompany him." Dan said into the speaker. "Perhaps him having somebody with him would encourage people to leave him alone."

"Go where?" Heather whispered confused as she sat down. "Is it your head again?" Sid shook his head putting a finger to his lips. Dan ended his conversation with Mario quickly which allowed Sid to speak his mind.

"My mom called this morning." He said swallowing. "My grandmother had a stroke." He said more tears coming from his eyes. "They don't expect her to survive the week." He broke down.

"Shh, Sid it's ok." Heather said as she hugged him. She kissed the side of his head as Dan cleared his throat.

"We were hoping you'd accompany Sid home, give him some company and perhaps a bit of normalcy." Dan said to her. "Your duties here will be looked after until Sid can return."

"Are you sure I'm the best person to go?" Heather asked. Of course she wanted to go, she loved him. She also knew she needed to be honest with Sid about James and now Was not a good time.

"We'll call in Candy." Dan said with a small chuckle. "The boys will get by." He added.

"Please come with me." Sidney pleaded with her holding her hand. How could she say no?

"Of course Sid. I'll arrange for a car and hotel for me." She added.

"No please, stay with me." Sid asked with the same look. "I'm going to need you." He added. Heather felt uncomfortable. Did his family know about her? What her job was?

"Ok" Heather smiled. "I'll go pack ok?" She said to him wiping a tear from his eyes.

----

The two of them managed to get a flight for noon. They'd be in Cole Harbour by 3pm. James was supportive of her going but a bit apprehensive. Heather promised that she'd call him everyday. "Thank you for coming with me." Sid said as they settled into their seats on the plane. Heather kept dark sunglasses on, that way any pictures that got out she'd be less noticeable.

"Of course Sid." She said taking his hand in hers. "I have to ask you. What are we going to tell your family?" She asked him.

"They know who you are." He said without looking at her. "They know our story. I told them a while ago." He said. "I knew that I couldn't pull a Nealer and call you my girlfriend." He said stoicly. Ouch, that one hurt. "I figured if we ever did start a relationship no use basing it with my family on lies." He added. Ouch another one.

"And they're...okay with me?" She asked curiously.

"They don't judge Heather. My dad has been around enough to know what you do." He added.

"What about Vanessa?" Heather asked.

"What about her?" He asked looking at her like she had several heads.

"She could've came. Perhaps she would've been a better choice." Heather said.

"No" he said very abruptly. "I couldn't bring her. I don't love her like I love you." He said looking into her eyes. "You are my home Heather."

She felt so guilty. She knew she had to tell him. Would it hurt more now or later? That was the choice that weighed heavily on her mind. "Thank you Sid." Was all she could say weakly. Thankfully the flight attendant brought around the complimentary champagne.

Notes

♠ ♠ ♠ This chapter makes me a bit nervous to see how you will all react to it. More people than I thought like the whole Brooks/Heather dynamic so it makes me happy! Major Heather/Sidney action and drama ahead! And don't forget about James and his mystery girl!
