I'm With You (Don't Tell Me)

Chapter 14

Jane took her time fixing dinner, but once she was finished, and it was all in the oven, she went to Viktor, who stopped what he was doing as soon as he saw her. He’d done all his exercises, so they could start with his knee now.
“How does your knee feel?” Jane sat down and put his foot on top of her thigh. She’d taken of her cardigan to work in the kitchen.
“I haven’t felt any pain at all today. No different now.”
“That’s good.” She slowly started moving his leg, and this time she didn’t see him wince, or even move a muscle at all. This looked really promising. “You’re making good progress. It’s good that you don’t feel pain, but you shouldn’t get ahead of yourself. I know it’s tempting to walk without the crutch, but you shouldn’t do this right now. Maybe here at home with support of the walls now and then, but not when you leave the house.”
“Okay.“ He simply nodded, but kept his eyes on her. She was leaning forward to examine his knee and he got a good look at her cleavage. He could see her white lace bra. He’d love for her to stay in this position or lean forward even more, but that wasn’t likely to happen.
“And you should try bending your knee more often.” Jane raised her head and saw where he was looking. When she looked down she realized that he could more or less look down her shirt. She quickly sat up straight, clutching a hand to her chest. She stood up, careful not to hurt his knee.
“I’ll go and take a quick shower.” Viktor got up as well and walked straight past her to get to the bathroom.
Jane closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She couldn’t deny that she was attracted to him. Boy, she was in a lot of trouble. Viktor made her smile and he was hot. He didn’t treat her badly and he was a great kisser. Lost in thought she touched her fingers to her lips, but quickly shook her head.
“No,” she said to herself. She couldn’t get involved with him. That would mean that she’d have to tell him about her past. He’d said that she didn’t have to tell him, but shouldn’t lie to him. But that was when he’d seen the scars on her thighs. What would happen if he saw the ones on her back, upper arms and her stomach? She didn’t want to think about it.
Jane went back to the kitchen to take a look at the food. It would take at least another half hour until it was finished. She’d have some time to catch up on her reading. When she heard the shower turn on in the bathroom, she took her book out of her purse and sat down on the sofa.
She was so absorbed in her book, that she jumped up from the sofa when Viktor touched her shoulder. With her heart thundering in her chest she turned towards him. He was only wearing jeans, no shirt at all. He looked so good that it made Jane’s mouth water.
“Relax, it’s only me. I didn’t want to scare you.” When she didn’t say a word, he continued. “I couldn’t find my red and white checkered shirt. I don’t know where you put it.
Since Jane was working for him, she was also taking care of his washing. But right now it was hard for her to remember where she put it.
“Couldn’t you at least have put on a different shirt before you came out here?” She let her book fall to the sofa. She hadn’t wanted to raise her voice, it had just happened. And Viktor was the reason for this. “This is not fair.” With a heavy sigh she walked past him to his bedroom.
Viktor followed her immediately, a grin on his lips. Who said anything about fair play? He’d told her that he wouldn’t give up. But in this case he really couldn’t find his shirt.
“I thought you see more than enough naked bodies. What’s the problem with mine?” He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the doorframe. Seeing her this flustered satisfied him somehow.
“What?” She turned to look at him. “There’s no problem with your body.”
“Then why do you have a problem with me standing here without a shirt on?”
“Because it makes me want you.” She stared straight at him. “Is this what you wanted to hear?”
A little shocked by this sentence, Viktor straightened. “Only if it’s the truth.”
“I wish it were different, but it isn’t.” Jane turned to the wardrobe again and quickly found what she was looking for. She put the shirt on his bed and faced him again. “This is too difficult.”
“Only because you’re making it difficult.” Viktor closed the distance between them. He cupped her face in his hands and leaned down. Instantly her eyes closed, making him smile. “Just relax. Stop worrying, Jane.” He brushed his lips across hers. When he heard her sigh, he dropped his hands and wrapped his arms around her. She leaned against him, but she was still a little stiff.
“I have to take the food out of the oven,” she mumbled against his chest.
“No you don’t. I turned it off.” Viktor watched her, waited until she looked at him again. “It was already finished when I asked you about my shirt. You were so absorbed in your book that you didn’t realize anything that was happening around you.”
“Yeah, that happens far too often when I read a book.”
There it was. The little smile that Viktor liked so much. He bent down and kissed her again. First slow and sensual, but then she opened her lips to him. He held her closer to his body, let his hand drop down until it was on her butt. Finally she wasn’t pulling away from him anymore.
