"Kay, hurry up. We're going to be late." Maxime yelled from downstairs. I sighed and slipped my brothers jersey on over my head. "Coming." I yelled back to Maxime.
I was meeting the Pittsburgh Penguins team after the game and I had spent all day perfecting myself. I have lived in Pittsburgh since I was 4 years old and I have cheered for the Penguins for as long as I can remember. Even though I am originally from LeMoyne, Quebec in Canada. Luckily my brother Maxime Talbot got picked up by the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL team after playing in the Quebec Major Junior League. I moved to Pittsburgh before he was drafted to the Penguins and ended up staying because he was going to be living here. I would have gone back to LeMoyne if Maxime hadn't got drafted here. I was planning on moving back to live with one of my brothers when I got the call from Maxime saying he would be moving to Pittsburgh and that I didn't have to go anywhere if I didn't want to. Life here was perfect. I didn't know anything else.
"Kayla Marie Talbot if you don't come downstairs this instant I will leave without you and you won't get to meet the team." Maxime yelled from downstairs. I gave myself one final glance in the mirror and grabbed my wristlet from the dresser before I hurried downstairs.
"I'm ready Maxime, please stop getting mad." I said grinning up at him.
"Please just hurry up, I can't be late going to the rink. You know how it is in the big leagues." He said pulling me into a side hug and dragging me out the door onto the porch. I pulled away from him and shook my head.
"Yes big brother." I said sarcastically. He turned the key in the lock and turned to walk down the first step. I snatched the keys out of his hand and ran down the front steps.
"I'm driving." I yelled behind me as I jogged to the drivers side of the car and hopped in. "Kayla." Maxime said shaking his head as he got in the car.
"What?" I said pouting.
"I want to talk to you about the team." He said shaking his head a little bit as I started the car and pulled out of the driveway. Maxime bought me this car for my 19th birthday back in August. It wasn't my dream car of course, but I didn't expect my brother to buy me a Range Rover for my 19th birthday. To my surprise this car was perfect. A Chevorlet Equinox in sleek white. My favourite colour for a car. Of course my brother would get me something so perfect for my birthday.
"What about them?" I said getting a feeling of butterflies in my stomach as I thought about meeting my brothers hockey team. An NHL team.
"They don't know about you." Maxime said looking at me trying to judge my reaction by my facial expressions.
I tried to hide my laughter, but I just couldn't.
"Maxime, why?" I said still trying not to laugh.
"Well it never really came up, and I told you that you weren't allowed to meet them until you turned 19 so I thought it would be better to keep you a secret. I'm just trying to protect you." He said rambling on.
"I'm not a child anymore." I said as we pulled into the parking lot.
"Kayla, you will always be my baby sister." He said as I looked around to try and figure out where I was supposed to park. After a couple of seconds he broke the tension by handing me something.
"Here." He said.
He rolled his eyes as I looked confused at the card he handed me.
"My card to get into the underground and dressing room." He said shaking his head.
I laughed. "I knew that Maxime."
"Go over there." He said point toward the entrance of the underground.
After we parked and got out of the car I walked around to where Maxime was standing. I put my arms around him and leaned into him giving him a huge hug.
"Good luck tonight big brother. Kick some ass." I said with a smirk.
"Hey Talbo, is this your girlfriend?" I heard someone ask from behind us. I moved away from Maxime and we both turned to face the person approaching. He was tall, taller than me, but most people were. I smiled sweetly realizing who it was. Jordan Staal. He was slender and dressed in an all black suit with a bright red tie.
"No, sister." I said raising an eyebrow to him.
"Oh, even better." Jordan said coming to a stop in front of us. He patted Maxime on the shoulder and then extended his hand to me. I took his hand and shook it firmly still smiling.
"Kayla." I said dropping my arm to the side. "But you can call me Kay."
"Well Kay, I'm Jordan Staal, but you probably know that. Where has Talbo been hiding you all this time?" Jordan said with a smile on his face.
"Away from all you guys." Maxime said shaking his head. He turned and started walking toward the entrance of the building. "Kay hurry up."
"Overprotective." I winked turning and jogging toward where Maxime was talking to someone. As I came to a stop next to my brother he looked at me with a brotherly look.
"Kayla, Ben is going to show you to your seat in Mario's box and he is going to bring you down after the game to meet the team." Maxime said lightening up.
Jordan walked up to Maxime and pulled him aside. I looked at Ben and smiled sweetly.
"I'm sorry Talbo." I heard Jordan say a couple feet away.
"Staalsy its okay. I'm just trying to protect her. From everything." Maxime said back. "Oh Jordan. Can you keep my sister being here on the down low? At least till I introduce her to the team after the game?"
"Sure thing Talbo. See you in the room." Jordan said before going into the building behind Maxime.
I sighed as Maxime came back over to where I'm standing next to Ben.
"I think you're in capable hands now Kay. Enjoy the game and I'll see you after." He said hugging me tightly before walking into the building through the door Jordan just used. I turned toward Ben and smiled. As we followed Maxime into the building I felt a little less nervous. I'm sure that would change after the game though.
