Captain Clutch

It had been a couple weeks since our road trip to Toronto and Montreal. Sidney was still acting weird. We hadn't talked much and whenever we were together he seemed like he wanted to tell me something, but he just kept him mouth shut. I was laying on the couch with my legs on Malkins lap. Beau was sitting in front of me on the couch while James was sprawled out on the other couch next to me. We were watching some stupid chick flick and I was bored out of my mind. I sighed.
"Kay whats wrong?" James asked me.
"Nothing." I said.
"Somethings wrong." Beau said looking up at me.
"Nothing." I snapped then I sighed. "I'm sorry."
"Is it Sidney?" Beau asked.
"He's acting really weird. He barley sees me and when he does he won't talk much." I said covering my face with my hands.
"Yeah he hasn't been playing well. It probably has something to do with that." James said.
"But he was fine until we met my friends." I said thinking back. Then it clicked. It was Jenny. He knew her, but how? I jumped up off the couch and ran downstairs grabbing my purse and keys, slipping my shoes and jacket on before I ran out the door. I didn't even stop when they guys yelled after me. I had to talk to Sidney. I drove over to Sidney's nervous and unsure of what I was going to say. I pulled into the driveway luckily his car was in the driveway. I put my car in park and hopped out. I walked toward the door. Once I got there I knocked hard and loud. Sidney opened the door after a couple minutes. Before he could say a word I pushed past him into the front hall.
"Anything you want to tell me?" I asked spinning around and facing him.
"Uh." He said scratching the back of his head.
"Anything about Jenny maybe?" I asked glaring at him. He realized that I knew he was keeping something from me. He rubbed the back of his head and paced back and forth.
"Spit it out Crosby." I screamed.
"I-I know her." He said looking down.
"Ok." I pushed. "Go on."
"We dated." He said still looking down. This wasn't shocking to me at all, but I had a feeling there was more to the story than I was hearing.
"There's more to it isn't there?" I asked putting my hand on my hip and looking at him.
"Maybe." He said still looking at the ground.
"God damnit Crosby. Spit it out already." I said getting really irritated now.
"We were going to get married." He said finally looking at me. My head started spinning. I think my jaw hit the ground my mouth was open so wide.
"Married?" I finally repeated.
"Yeah." He said. I tried thinking back remembering Jenny staying here in Pittsburgh for awhile with some guy. I guess I never put two and two together. I was also really messed up so I never really paid attention to anything before.
"How did I not realize this?" I said more angry with myself than him.
"I don't know." He said shaking his head.
"Wait a minute. Why am I mad at myself?" I said glaring at him. "Its been two weeks since that road trip and you failed to tell me this until I brought it up."
Sidney was silent for a long time.
"I'm sorry." He said.
"You're sorry?" I asked. A laugh escaped my lips. He looked up at me confused. I couldn't help it, I burst out laughing.
"Why are you laughing?" He asked. That made me laugh even harder. Finally I stopped laughing.
"You were engaged to my best friend's sister who I introduced you to, and you didn't tell me until I dragged it out of you." I said. "I find this whole thing hilarious."
"How?" He said glaring at me.
"Because you got mad at me for going on a 'date' with Nealer, yet you were engaged to my best friends sister." I said.
"But I didn't know until I saw her." He said getting defensive.
"You didn't tell me and its been two weeks Sidney." I said shaking my head.
"Please don't be mad. I didn't know how to tell you." Sidney said. I wasn't really mad at the situation, just at the fact that he didn't tell me.
"You should have told me. Simple as that." I said.
"I know. I'm sorry Kayla. I really am." He said sighing.
"Can I ask you something?" I asked looking right at him.
"Anything." He said walking over to me and putting his arms around me. I looked up at him and sighed.
"Why did you guys break up?" I asked. I felt him tense up. He didn't say anything for a couple minutes. Finally he spoke.
"She thought she was pregnant, and she was going to ruin my hockey career. Turns out she wasn't and I told her that I couldn't be with someone who wasn't okay with hockey being one of the most important things in my life." He said.
"Oh." I replied putting my head on his chest. My mind was moving a mile a minute. There were things I hadn't told Sidney about my past still and I didn't think now was the right time. I knew I had to tell him at some point in the future before he found out some other way. It seemed like keeping things from each other was a bad idea since somehow the other always found out. I really cared about Sidney and I wasn't one to judge someones past. If Sidney could see past my mistakes, I could see past things like this.
