You've Set My Heart Ablaze

Chapter 2-

Allison's POV:
We pulled into the apartment complex a little before midnight. We had made a few stops along the way and had still made it there in about 7 hours. Melanie was no fast driver either. She was what some would call “a grandma driver”. She was either driving the exact speed limit or under it. I on the other hand liked going fast. At least 5 miles over. It was a rush.
The apartment was nice. Rather spacey or the two of us, but that was cool. We could have some parties with friends we hoped to make. “This place is amazing!” Melanie exclaimed, plopping down on the bed. “Remind me to call Sarah and Jace and thank them!”
I laughed “I will.” Sarah and Jace were Mel’s cousins who lived in the area. They found this place for us and had even helped move our things into it last week. Everything was still in boxes of course and our furniture other than the couch and TV was still disassembled.
“The Direct TV guy will be here in the afternoon to set up the CABLE and internet.” Melanie said grabbing her sleeping bag and laying it on the floor. “I vote we sleep and in the morning, we can set up.”
I nodded and looked into the fridge that came with the apartment “And also buy food…and cleaning supplies.”
Melanie nodded “Actually, you go shopping and I’ll stay here with the CABLE guy.”
I nodded “Sounds good.” I climbed into my own sleeping bag. I pulled out my Droid and opened a new memo, jotting down what I planned to buy a the store tomorrow. I saved my memo as “Groceries” and sat my phone beside me before drifting off to sleep.
It was nearing 10am when I woke up. I rolled over seeing that Mel was still snoring. I got dressed in my Mets t-shirt and jeans before checking my weather app. It was going to be 72 degrees. Not bad. I grabbed a light jacket just incase and left a note before heading off to a grocery store we passed on the way.
James’ POV:
I rubbed my head as I pushed my cart down the next aisle at Whole Foods. As if shopping wasn’t difficult enough, I had to be hung-over. I put some bread into my cart and continued down the aisle turning the corner.
Smash. I had bumped into another cart “Fuck…” I mumbled.
“What the…” the startled girl stammered.
“I’m so sorry…” I said looking at her. She was very pretty, kind of small and blonde. I could tell she either wasn’t a local or had just moved in because she had on a Mets’ shirt. No Pittsburgh local would be wearing a Mets’ shirt.
“It’s okay…” she said confused, looking at me strangely.
Shit. She recognized me. That’s just great James…get recognized when you’re hung-over. “Listen…I’m really sorry…” I repeated
“It’s okay.” she told me again with a smile “Hey, I’m new in town can you direct me to the soup aisle?”
I nodded “Yeah, follow me.”
“Are you OK?” she asked, pushing her cart alongside mine.
“Yeah I’m fine…” I replied. Maybe she didn’t recognize me, but she sure as hell knew I was hung-over.
“Had a good time last night?” she asked with the cutest smile I have ever seen.
I laughed “Yeah…so when did you move in?”
“Yesterday.” she replied
“Nice! Welcome to Pittsburgh.” I smiled. “May I ask the name of Pittsburgh’s newest resident?”
She smiled and nodded “I’m Allison.”
“Why hello, Allison, my names James.” I smiled
She smiled again “So, James…I know we just met, but can I get your number? I mean…me and my friend just moved here…and we might need help getting around…”
Damn…she moved fast…”Sure. My number is 610-233-0988.”
She smiled as she put the number into her phone. “Thanks.” with that, she walked away.
Allison’s POV:
I don’t know why I asked for his number, but I did. He had a kind way about him, even though it was obvious he was wasted. We all have those kinds of days, when we drink more than we should. Sure I had those days too.
I got back to the apartment and started putting the groceries away. “Have fun?” Mel asked.
“Yeah. I met this guy…” I told her
Her eyes widened “Really? Already?” she laughed.
“Yeah he helped me around the store…his name is James…I got his number and he said he could help us find things in town and stuff.”
Melanie looked at me and shook her head “He was hot wasn’t he? We have my cousins to help us around town.”
I couldn’t help but blush. She had me right on the nose. “Maybe…”
“He was! He was!” she laughed jumping up and down
I rolled my eyes “Okay! He was! Also, he kind of looked familiar, but I can’t place him. I feel like I’ve seen him somewhere…”
“Maybe in your dreams.” Mel teased
I shook my head “Shut-up. So how’s the Cable?”
“Good. We have a lot of channels.” she replied
“Awesome.” I replied turning on the TV and there he was. James was on my TV on some sports channel. James, was a hockey player for the team called the Penguins. “James” was James Neal, Pittsburgh Penguins hockey player.

Comments

I am only half way through. Love nice guy James so far, but why give Allison chance after chance? Why was she really going to Malkins'?
