You've Set My Heart Ablaze

Chapter 3-

James’ POV:
I shoved the last of my groceries in my now full fridge. It was stupid of me to not ask for her number instead of just giving her my own. If I had asked for her number, I’d be the one calling her, not the one waiting for a call.
Then again, once she did call me, if she even would…I’d have her number and I could help her around town. Wait…what was I thinking. I was horrible with relationships…did I really want to put another girl through hell…
I have serious commitment issues. I just don’t want to be tied down to one girl, but something about this girl was different…something about her made me want to be committed. Something about her made me want to stop being a player and start being a good boyfriend…or even husband.
I grabbed my phone from the counter just as soon as it rang. My heart raced until I noticed it was just Geno…”Hey, Geno.”
“Hey, are you going to come out tonight?” Evgeni Malkin was a big partier. He loved going out to the clubs, drinking and dancing. Especially since he and Oksana were on their “off” period. Oksana and Geno had been on and off for years, at least that’s what the others had told me. Since I cam to Pittsburgh, this was their second “off” period.
“No…not tonight…I can’t do that partying every day shit.”
“Okay. Maybe tomorrow?” he asked
Persistent as always. “Maybe.”
“Okay. Let me know.” Geno hung up before I could say anything else.
I grabbed a Dr. Pepper from my fridge and laid back in my chair, playing Angry Birds on my phone.
Allison’s POV:
I looked at my clock it was past midnight. I couldn’t believe that I had met James Neal. I couldn’t believe that James Neal had given me his phone number. Melanie couldn’t believe that I wasn’t going to call him.
I mean, yeah he was nice and all, but I knew the athlete type. They weren’t really “date” material. They were more the “I’ll fuck you then dump you” type. I had dated athletes before and that’s how they all were. Once you had sex with them, they wanted nothing to do with you and him being a hockey player made it even worse…they had an even shittier reputation when it came to women.
Also, he was drunk off his ass when I met him. A nice drunk…but a drunk nonetheless and I wasn’t interested in dating an alcoholic again…I mean maybe he wasn’t one, but still.
My last boyfriend, Kasey, was an alcoholic. He drank a 6-pack of beer before supper and would finish off a forty of vodka before bed. Kasey was always yelling and was always drunk. We had broken things off a few times and I was stupid enough to get back with him again and again. Last Summer I had finally ended it.
I grabbed my purse to take James’ number out of it and it wasn’t there. I threw my purse into my lap and dug everything out of it, I went to my pants and pulled the pockets out. The paper wasn’t there either. “What the fuck…” I mumbled.
James’ POV:
I squinted my eyes at the number that was calling me. It was obviously an out of state number. Her. I thought as I answered it. “Hello?”
“Hi! Is this James?” a female voice asked
“Yes. Is this Allison?”
She laughed “No no…I’m Melanie. Allison’s friend…listen it was stupid of her to not give out her number so you could call her. I mean call me old fashioned, but I think a guy should call a girl for a date, not the other way around. Anyways…I am calling you from her number.”
“Oh…” was all I could reply
“Yeah. So you have her number now. Sorry to bother you so late. Have a nice night!” with that, “Melanie” hung up.
I blinked at the number on my phone and saved it. Well…her friend was psycho…if that really was her friend. I somewhat remember Allison telling me she moved here with a Melanie, but I wasn’t sure.
I sat my phone down and rolled over. Now that I had her number, I felt like it was my responsibility to call her…but what if she didn’t know I had her number and she thought it was creepy that I got it. Even though her friend gave it to me…but what if she had sent her friend to call me. To see if I was a gentleman? Shit.
Either way…I wanted to get to know this girl more and I decided that I would call her in the morning.

Comments

I am only half way through. Love nice guy James so far, but why give Allison chance after chance? Why was she really going to Malkins'?
