Rescue Me (Sidney Crosby)

Rescue Me (Sidney Crosby) 004:

Chapter Four

After I dropped Josh and Conner off at school, I headed back to the shop. Allie was already in the kitchen and started icing the cupcakes because Janis was going to be here tomorrow morning for them. I told her that I was going to get some coffee and she nodded her head.

As I walked down the street and into the coffee shop, I ordered my drinks and waited for them. As I turned around I bumped into someone and looked up to see that it was the same guy from yesterday.

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"No it's- Oh, hey, we have to stop doing this," he teased and I smiled and laughed a little.

"Julie!" I turned around to see that my coffees were ready, "The usual, Sidney?"

"You know me so well, Ashley," he said and she smiled and got him his drink.

"Maybe I'll run into you tomorrow," I said and he smiled and nodded my head and then left heading back down the street to the store. I walked into the kitchen to see that Allie was leaning against the table with her head down, "What's wrong?"

"Mrs. Jacobs called and asked for some custom made cookies for Wednesday," Allie said and I laughed and walked over towards her.

"How many?"

"Three hundred."

"So all we have to do is ice the red velvet cakes for David, the chocolate cake for Mary, the one hundred cupcakes for Janis. Make two hundred sugar cookies with pink heart shaped icing for Greg, three hundred heart shaped chocolate chip cookies for Mrs. Jacobs, not to mention make all of the chocolate covered strawberries. Did I get everything?"

"Nope, Mary apparently has a son that plays junior hockey and has a birthday party on Saturday, she wants us to make a chocolate and white cake with a hockey design. Oh and she said that she would like you to make those Oreo balls that you're so good at."

"How many?"

"Five hundred," she said and I nearly fell over.

"Five hundred? Holy shit!" I said with eyes wide.

"Yeah," Allie said and I sighed.

"Oh, so all we have to do is ice the red velvet cakes for David, the chocolate cake for Mary, the one hundred cupcakes for Janis. Make two hundred sugar cookies with pink heart shaped icing for Greg, three hundred heart shaped chocolate chip cookies for Mrs. Jacobs, a tray of half chocolate, half white with a hockey theme and five hundred Oreo balls for Mary- What colors?"

"Black and gold."

"I'll figure something out. Oh, and, not to mention we still have to find time to make all of the chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's Day."

"Yes ma'am."

"I'm getting tired just saying all that."

"That is a lot," Allie said and I nodded my head, "Whelp, let's get to work."

"Yeah, it's not going to get done with us just standing around," I said and Allie an I got start.

Six hours later, and five hundred cookies finished by myself, and most of the other stuff finished by Allie, it was time for me to leave to go and pick Josh and Conner up at school. By the time I got there, they were already waiting for me.

"Mommy!" Josh yelled as he smiled and ran over towards me.

I smiled and hugged him and then saw Conner walking up behind him, "Hi boys, did you have fun at school?"

"We learned about adding today!" Josh said and I laughed, "And I knew some of the answers! Didn't even have to count on my fingers!"

"That's good, sweetie! You're so smart," I said and then hugged Josh, "What about you, Conner?"

"I'm not good at Math. I like Reading," he said sadly and I smiled and hugged him too.

"That's all right, Reading is just as good as Math."

"Really?"

"Most definitely," I said and he smiled towards me, "If you'd like, maybe Josh can help you with your Math."

"Really?!" he asked and Josh nodded his head.

"And you can help me with Reading," Josh said to Conner and I smiled and looked over towards Josh to see him smiling too.

"All right, now let's head home, I have cookies waiting!"

"COOKIES!!!" the boys yelled and started to run past me, but I grabbed the back of their backpacks stopping them.

"You know the rules."

"Must hold your hand," they said and I smiled.

"Very good."

We walked back to the shop and I sat the boys in the office and had them do their homework while Allie and I continued to bake.

“Mhmmm, does it smell good in here!” I turned around to see Mildred walking into the kitchen with a big smile on her face, “Have you two been in here all day?”

“Yup,” Allie said as I helped her ice the cupcakes.

“And how’s it going?”

“We have a lot to do, Mom. I don’t know if we’ll get it all finished.”

“We will,” I said and Mildred smiled towards me.

“What did you have to do?”

“David ordered three red velvet cakes,” Allie said.

“Finished.”

“Mary ordered a chocolate cake and then 2 half sheets hockey themed and five hundred oreo balls.”

“One out of three finished,” I answered.

“Janis wanted a hundred cupcakes.”

“About five more and we’re finished.”

“Greg ordered two hundred sugar cookies with heart shaped icing.”

“Half way there,” I said and Mildred nodded her head.

“That’s not-“

“And three hundred heard shaped chocolate chip cookies for Mrs. Jacobs.”

“Not even started,” I answered and Mildred sighed.

“Better call in for some back up.”

“No! Mother! No! The last time you called her in here, she almost blew the kitchen up! We’re better off doing this on our own!” Allie yelled and I looked at her confused.

“Who?”

“You don’t want to know, trust me.”

“Oh, don’t forget about the strawberries!” I reminded and Allie groaned.

“They come in tomorrow,” Mildred said and I sighed, “Allie, why don’t you call that Todd boy, he was good in the kitchen last time.”

“Todd? Mom, I broke up with Todd,” Allie said and I laughed, “There’s Tyler now.”

“Oh that’s right, the boy who’s younger than you!”

“Mom, it’s only by four years! You make it seem like he’s still a minor.”

“My parents were ten years apart,” I said and Mildred and Allie looked at me.

“See, and I’m sure Julie’s parents got along great! Right?”

“Well,” I said and looked down.

“Oh, I’m sorry, that’s right. You haven’t seen them in a long time, I’m so sorry, Julie.”

“It’s all right, you forgot,” I said and then finished up the last of the cupcakes and boxed them up.

“So will you call Tyler?”

“No Mom, he’s probably busy!” Allie yelled and I smiled.

Day Thirty Four of new life, and things are going good.
