Rescue Me (Sidney Crosby)

Chapter Seventy Two

-Julie-

I was panicking, I was in the school principal’s office with a police officer pacing and panicking, ‘…I’m so grounding him when I see him…’

The guys were out looking for the three eight year old boys that were missing. I didn’t know where they were, I didn’t know if they were all right, with the past that I’ve had, I didn’t know if they were taken. The police officer was trying to calm me down, but I wasn’t listening to him. I checked my phone every five seconds, probably sent out a hundred texts asking the same thing; pretty sure that Sidney just decided to ignore them all.

“Ms. McHale, please, I need you to-“

“You tell me to calm down one more time, I will slap you! I don’t care that you’re an office, my baby is out there and we don’t-“

“Ma’am, I’m trying to tell you that we found them!” he said as he grabbed my hands because I was throwing them around while yelling at him.

“What?” I asked and he smiled towards me.

“We found them,” he said and I breathed a sigh of relief. Someone talked to him on his radio and I heard the name Tyler Kennedy.

My eyes widened and I reached for the radio, scaring the crap out of the officer, “Tyler! Tyler, can you hear me?!”

“Julie,” I smiled when I heard his voice over the radio, “They’re all right Jewels.”

“Where are they?”

“They’re at the cemetery, they went to see Conner,” he said and I gasped and placed my hand over my mouth, feeling my eyes water, “I guess one of the keepers saw them and called the police, saying that their parents were probably looking for them. Geno, Neal and I got here right after he got here.”

“How did you know?”

“What I would have done,” he muttered sadly and I knew he was still upset over Conner’s death, we all were.

“That’s at least six miles from the school,” I said and rubbed my face, “But their all right?”

“Yeah, Josh wants his mom,” Tyler said and I laughed a little and wiped the tears from my eyes.

“I’m on my way,” I said and then handed the radio back to the officer, apologized and then ran out of the office, heading out of the school and running to my car.

-Sidney-

“TK says go to the cemetery,” Cooke said as he looked at his phone.

“Why the hell didn’t I think of that?!” I growled and then looked at Pascal who nodded his head and turned into a parking lot so that he could turn around because the cemetery was in the opposite direction.

“That’s what- five, six miles from the school?” Pascal asked and I pulled out my phone and typed in the addresses.

“Six point seven miles,” I announced and the sighed, “I wonder if Julie knows.”

“Call her,” Pascal said and I looked at the unopened texts that she had sent me.

I called her phone but she didn’t answer her phone, I sighed and then looked out the window, watching as the scenery passed.

When we got to the cemetery, we found a few other cars there. I looked to see that Julie was holding Josh and hugging him tightly. Geno, James, Tyler, Kunitz, Marc, Kris and Matt were standing around Julie. There was a police officer talking with Tyler and as soon as Pascal found a place to park, I jumped out of the car and ran over towards them, Geno was holding Jackson and Kris was holding Kody.

“Josh,” I said and Julie turned towards me and smiled.

I smiled and then pulled them both into a hug and placed my hand on Josh’s head to see that he was sleeping. His eyes and cheeks were red, so I knew that he was crying. Julie handed him to me and I felt Josh wrap his arms around my neck and he laid his head on my shoulder. I rubbed his back and listened to Julie thank the officer and then watched as he got into his cruiser and drove off.

“Well this was an eventful day,” Julie said as she turned around and ran a finger through her hair.

I turned around and heard both Pascal and Cooke yelling at their kids, well not yelling, but frustratingly telling them never to do that again because they had us worried sick.

“Josh wanted to give Conner his car,” Kody said and I looked at Conner and then walked over towards the grave to see a toy car sitting on the newly placed tombstone.

“Conner gave that to Josh the first day we got here,” Julie said and I looked back and saw that she was going to cry.

I wrapped my free arm around her, holding onto Josh with one arm. I heard everyone walk over and stood around us. It was definitely hard being here. I looked over towards Tyler to see that he was staring sadly at the grave and that some of the guys had their hands on his back or shoulder, trying to help him through this.

“Let’s head home,” I said and then looked at Julie to see her nodding her head.

I told my teammates bye and thanked them, walking over towards Julie’s car and placing Josh in the backseat. He was sleeping; I kissed his head and placed the seatbelt on him, looking up to Julie and seeing that her head was on the steering wheel.

“Hey,” I said as I got into the passenger seat and placed my hand on her knee. She looked at me and I leaned over and pressed my lips against hers, “It’s going to be all right.”

“He can’t be doing that,” she said and I nodded my head and looked back towards that, “I know that their reasons were good, but-“

“I know, we’ll talk to him when he wakes up,” I said and she sighed and nodded her head, “Let’s head home, it’s been a long day.”

“Yeah.”

-Julie-

Sidney had placed Josh in his bed and changed him into his pajamas. It was only five, but Josh had a long day and he didn’t wake up during the ride home. I figured that he would get hungry if he woke up, so I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and placed it on his nightstand, along with a bottle of water.

“God, now I’m tired,” Sidney said as we walked out of the bedroom.

I smiled and turned around, placing my hands on his chest and reaching up to press my lips against his. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist. When I pulled away, I laid my head on his chest and felt him rubbing my back.

“My parents and sister are coming down next week.”

“I thought they were coming down in a month?” I asked and Sidney shook his head.

“With everything that’s happened, they figured they should come down,” Sidney said and I nodded my head, “Taylor’s on spring break or some kind of break, so they’ll be here for two weeks.”

“I can get a lot of things done for the wedding, I haven’t worked on anything since-“ I stopped and shook my head, “I can’t even say it,” I muttered and pulled away only to feel Sidney grab my hand.

“I know it hurts, but everything will be all right,” Sidney said and I sighed and nodded my head.

“I know but, I still can’t believe that it happened,” I said and Sidney nodded his head and then kissed my head.

“I know, come on, I’m starving,” he said and I smirked a little and nodded my head.

We walked downstairs and headed into the kitchen to see Sasha sitting in her bed chewing on one of her bones. I walked over towards the fridge and opened the door, looking at what I could make. I sighed and then shook my head and closed the door and then opened again.

Sidney scoffed and I looked over towards him, “Nothing moved the first time you opened that door.”

“I know!” I laughed, “I don’t know what I want. I’m hungry but-“ I opened the door again and bent over, but then sighed and closed it. But just to annoy him, I opened it again.

“Jewels!” he laughed and I smirked and closed the door and opened the freezer.

“I need to go shopping,” I sighed and Sidney walked over towards me.

“Look at all of this food in here!”

“Obviously there’s nothing in here!” I said and he smirked.

“There’s nothing in here that you want to eat now, not there’s nothing in here,” he said and I scoffed and reached into the freezer and pulled out a carton of ice cream.

“Dessert for dinner,” I said and then opened the lid to see that there was only a little of the chocolate ice cream left.

Sidney sighed and then walked over towards the counter and grabbed his keys, “I’ll be back.”

“Love you!” I smiled and then grabbed a spoon and hopped up onto the counter and ate the remaining of the ice cream.
