It was almost 1 in the morning and everyone started leaving the barn. The guys decided to have a boys’ night in, all of them staying at the Staal’s house playing video games, eating junk food and watching action movies and stupid horror movies to finish off the night. Megan and Cayla began their walk home together up the road and that’s when Megan knew it was her chance to talk to Cayla one on one. Megan and Cayla were extremely close, especially since they were the only sisters in a group of 8 kids. They were best friends and told each other every single detail about each other’s lives. So she hoped this topic would be just like the rest. Megan let out a deep sigh not knowing how to start up this conversation, just letting it hang there as she tried to gather her thoughts. For some reason this felt like it was going to be a different kind of conversation than her and Cayla have had before.

“What’s wrong?” Cayla asked. She knew this sigh and she knew something was going on in Megan’s head.

“Nothing, well not with me anyway…” She stated matter-of-factly.

“What do you mean, not with you?” Cayla truly had no idea what her sister was talking about.

“Cayla I want to ask you something but you need to be completely honest with me.”

“You know I’m ALWAYS honest with you. When have I ever lied to you?”

“Never.”

“Okay then, just spit it out”

“Uh, well I just wanted to know what was up with the kiss in the barn tonight, with Jared.”

This sobered Cayla up quick, she didn't know what to say, but she could feel her face start to heat up with embarrassment, she couldn't be more thankful that it was dark outside. She didn't know how to answer the question to herself, much less have her sister interrogate her about it right then and there. She needed time to process tonight’s situation and apparently she needed to process it a bit quicker than she had planned. She should have known her sister would pick up on even her slightest mood changes, even something so small that she thought she would over look. But she also knew that her sister could read her like an open book she had read a hundred times over. But the worst part was that she could read the hurt all over Megan’s face for not immediately spilling the beans on her confused thoughts on the baby Staal.

“It was a dare, and I did what was asked of me. So I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Cayla finally managed to spit out after giving her sister a blank stare, her mind drifting back to the heated kiss she shared with Jared.

“Cayla you know exactly what I’m talking about! Your little make out session with Jared. After you guys finished you went from all happy and on your high horse to a little girl that was told she couldn't have a puppy for her birthday.” Megan was getting angry now that her sister wasn't opening up to her as she always had.

“Why does it even matter to you?” Cayla didn't want to argue with her sister so she picked up her pace. She also didn't want to admit, out loud, to her sister, let alone to herself, that she had been burying these feelings she had for Jared.

“Cay, are you seriously asking me why the fuck I care about how my little sister feels?! What the hell is your problem, that now all of a sudden you don’t want to fucking talk to me, and tell me what's going on?! You know what, forget I even asked you anything!” Megan was pissed and stormed off to the remaining distance to their house. She got inside, ran to her room, and locked herself in to ensure that she wouldn't have to see Cayla’s face for the rest of the night.

Tears rushed down Cayla’s face. She hated fighting with her sister more than anything. But she just couldn't admit this. Not yet at least, she just wasn't ready. These feelings for Jared had come back out of left field and she didn't know what to do with them now that he was going to be leaving.
