The One Night That Changed My Life Forever

The Plan is in Motion

I woke up the next morning and Pat was gone. However I was greeted to another happy face as I made my way out into the kitchen in search of food. "El! You are still here!"
"Yup! You, Abby and I are having a girls day!"
"Who came up with this idea? Well Pat got us thinking and then we came up with it yesterday while you were sleeping."
"Well I think its a great idea.I need to get away from all this stress."
"That's what Pat said. He also got you a ticket to head home on spring break, and see your family."
"What?"
"Yah he thought you could use a little break, not just a day here and there. This was the perfect idea, and he came with it all by himself."
"But what about Izzy?"
"Spring break is this week coming up. She will be alright, and if anything changes or her condition changes Pat said he would do what ever it takes to get you back on the next flight. Even Izzy thought this was a good plan, she said you needed some time, and that she would we awaiting your return."
" Ok, I guess I can go. I mean I have been complaining about not seeing my parents in a while. But you promise you will tell me if things change?"
"Yes, promise. But before you think about that we are going to a spa, and then Pat was nice enough to give me an allowance to take you out shopping. Then afterwards we were thinking of swinging by the hospital to say hi to Izzy."
"Well, it sounds like you have everything planned. Lets get out of here" I laughed and followed my best friend to the car. The spa was very relaxing, and it relieved my body of all the tension and stress I had been feeling over the past day. The shopping was just an added bonus, especially being able to shop outside of my student's budget. It didn't feel right going overboard with someone else's money, so I bought the usual amount I would buy. Abby and Ellie were both trying to understand why I didn't want to spend so much money, and after a while they gave up. We made it out of the mall, with a manageable amount of bags. Now was the hard part. I didn't know how I was going to make it through the visit, but I wanted to be strong for Izzy.
"Speak of the devil, I think she's here" I heard someone talking in the room.
"Hey Izzy. Hey guys. I didn't know you guys were coming today."
"Well we love this little squirt too" Sharpie said. "It wouldn't be right leaving her to stay all by herself in this dreary place. So we set up some video games, and are just chilling."
"Rach! Come play. I bet you can beat your boyfriend" she said confidently.
" I'm not so sure but I'll give it a try. Whatcha playing?"
"Mario Kart, but I'm not that good."
"We are going to head out guys" the rest of the team said leaving one bye one saying their goodbyes to Izzy.
"Well now that it's just us. You ready for that rematch, I'm pretty sure you, Ellie, and I can take Pat on. What do you think?"
"Yah, we can do it!"
We played for a while before Izzy started nodding off, and we decided to take off.
"Pat, you didn't have to buy me a ticket you know that."
"I know, I wanted to. It's what you do for people you love" he winked at me.
"I'll never get tired of hearing that" I whispered looking up at his smiling face.
"You better not!" he replied leaning in for a kiss. pulling away quickly only to start tickling me.
"Stop! Please?" I cried admitst laughs pulling out the puppy dog eyes, knowing I had a good chance of it working.
"That's not fair. Don't pull that face on me" he said slowing down on the ticklefest.
"A girl has to have her strengths, ya know" I said laughing voluntarily this time.
"Ok now that we have put on a show in the middle of the parking lot, lets get out of here" I blushed, looking around as some people stared oddly at us on the way into the hospital. I wasn't sure on whether it was the fact that Pat was there or the fact that they had just witnessed a full on tickling war between two young adults.
"Agreed. What do you want to do?"
"Well I was thinking your place, and you could console me and try to take my mind of everything?"
"Hmmmm, I think I can work with that. Let me see what I can come up with" he chuckled.
"Don't think too long, buddy or I might come up with something else on my own" I laughed.
"No. It's all good. I'm done thinking. You ready to go now?"
"I could be convinced, quite easily I might add." He got that hint pretty quickly, pushing me against the car kissing me forcefully, yet carefully leaving me wanting more.
"Convinced?"
"Pretty, but you look a little bit more excited than me" I said looking towards his pants. Blushing as he understood, he made it quickly into the car beckoning me to join.
"You going to make it home?" I joked placing my hand on his thigh.
"Not if you keep teasing me like that" he growled looking at my hand, and back at me.
"Oh, sorry didn't realize my hand was that low. Sorry again" I said moving my hand even further up his leg.
"Rach!" he growled.
"What? You don't like that?" I said rubbing his thigh looking at him with my very effective sad look.
"Awe Fuck it" he reached over and brought me over to the drivers side so I was straddling him.
"I'm guessing you have tinted windows" I smirked.
"Very much so" he said between kisses, leaning back the seat and getting comfortable. I was surprised by the end that no one had even stopped to look at the events taking place within the car, but then again just had to trust Pat had truly tinted windows.
"Ok, so now can you make it back home?" I said getting my breath back.
"Mhmmm I think so" he said turning his head towards me. "Rach, I love you."
"I love you too, Pat." We took the drive slowly back to the house, talking about the things we had done over the week, how my school was, and of course hockey which I loved, partially because of the way Pat's face always lights up. We talked about my girls day and my plans for spring break.
"I have to call them, they have no idea that I'm coming!" I exclaimed randomly.
"Who? Your parents?"
"Yah, I told them that I probably couldn't make it up this year, but now that I'm coming they aren't expecting me."
"Right, I forgot about that part. I think they would have told you if they had big plans though, so just call them when we get to the apartment, and if we need to change things up I can probably get you on the plane to come up and see our games."
"I'm sure they will be there, they aren't ones to do much on spring break, and if they did have something small planned they'd drop it if it mean't seeing their little girl again."
"From where I'm sitting their little girl has grown up" Pat winked from beside me. I punched him on the shoulder telling him to pay attention to the road. When we made into the penthouse, I took some time to call my parents and organize my little surprise trip.
"Yah, hey mom."
"Rach, How have you been? Changed your mind on joining us next week, or do we still have some convincing to do?"
"Well that's actually what I was calling about. My boyfriend actually got me a plane ticket to come up leaving tomorrow."
"Boyfriend? I didn't know anything about a boy. Who is it?"
"Glad to know that's what you got out of that whole conversation. And you will meet him later on this week," making sure Pat was out of the room seeing as he didn't know my plan to surprise him.
"Well you sound happy, so I'm happy."
"I am really happy mom, even though I miss you and Dad. It's been forever. So can you pick me up at the airport tomorrow?"
"Which one?"
"One sec, I have to ask."
"HEY PAT!"
"YAH?"
"WHICH AIRPORT DO I FLY INTO?"
"LONDON."
"THANKS" I practically yelled at Pat who was in the middle of taking a shower.
"So his name is Pat?" my mother asked through the phone.
"Yes and you are not getting a last name out of me, so don't even try."
"Are you at his place right now?"
"Yah, sorry about the yelling, we were just at the hospital visiting a mutual friend, and he just hopped in the shower", keeping some of the other events to myself. My mother still had the little girl image of me, and I was going to keep it that way as long as possible.
"I'm back" Pat said making his way out of the bathroom.
"I'm just going to finish this call, want to make something to eat?"
"Sure, come find me when you are done."
"Wow he has a sexy voice"
"MOM! You can't talk about my boyfriend like that!" I basically screamed at the phone in embarrassment.
"I heard that" yelled Pat from the kitchen.
"I was just commenting, no need to bite my head off" my mom said through the phone."
"Sorry, enough about my boy though. Can you come pick me up in London tomorrow?"
"Yah I can, I have my holidays this week, and Dad's off most of it two. Just text us with the time and we will be there. Anything for our favourite girl!"
"I'm your only girl" I replied back with a little bit of sarcasm.
"Just because your our only girl, don't mean you can't be our favourite girl too."
"Awe thanks, Mom I love you" realizing I was throwing those words around a lot lately.
"I love you too honey. I can't wait to have our family reunion."
"Wait, everyone is coming home?"
"Yup, now that you are coming. Dylan's flying back from BC tomorrow too, and Scott is flying back from California later on today. So soon we will have a full house."
"Wow, so the whole fam is going to be there. I guess there goes my excuse to go to Cali anytime soon."
"Yah, ok so we will see you tomorrow then. I have to go pick Scott up at the airport. Say hi to everyone there, and of course to El. I miss that girl. I look forward to seeing you, and that boy of yours soon. Is he flying up with you? Nope, I'm surprising him… I'll explain later. Go get Scott, I'll see you tomorrow. Love you Mom. Say hi to dad for me too."
"Bye Rach."
"Bye Mom." With that I got off the couch, and wrapped my hands around my shirtless boyfriend. "Now don't you just look sexy slaving in the kitchen, no shirt too, added bonus i guess" I laughed as he brought me around giving me a spoon to stir the sauce on the stove. "Well even though it's just pasta, I love the look of the desert" I smirked at him.
"Oh really? But I didn't make any desert."
"I can make some it won't be that hard, but I save that until after dinner. Plus I have to get home, and pack and get ready seeing as this trip was just as much a surprise to me as my family. At least I got some shopping in before heading home to the cold north."
"Yes, shopping. Do I have to worry about my bills?"
"No, you think to little of me" I laughed. "Sure I bought some stuff, but I stayed around the 200 dollar mark."
"Really?" he said looking confused." I gave you an unlimited card, and you spent that?" giving me the same looks Ellie and Abby had been giving me earlier.
"Yes, you have already done so much for me. It just didn't seem right taking more. Don't worry I was given the same looks earlier. I thank you for that though, just by showing me that you care was enough, no matter what even if you hadn't given me any money."
"Wow, so many girls would have taken complete advantage of that. You are amazing" he said pecking me on the lips before setting up the table to eat. Dinner went by quickly, and then I was back home packing for my trip back home. I had my suitcase done in an hour, and by that time it was 8 at night. I called Pat and told him night, before making another call to put my plan in action.
"Hey, Yah Taze what's up?"
"Nothing much, just chillin. What's up Rach?"
Well I was hoping to ask you a little favour. I normally ask Pat about these things but this time its for a little surprise I've got cooking."
"Alright, anything for surprising people" he laughed. "Shoot."
"Ok, well I'm heading home for spring break tomorrow and you guys happen to play a game up in Ottawa later on in the week. I'm going to make up and excuse saying that I need to get some of my stuff I left up there, inviting my family to go with, adding the bonus of a Sens game with tickets I bought off a friend…. So anyways I was hoping that maybe you could work come of your whole Captain magic and hook me up with some tickets for me and my family. I totally get it if it's too much of a hassle, it not being your building and all. I also wouldn't expect amazing seats, and I would be willing to pay for them."
"How many you need?"
"Five. Only if its possible though, I don't want you going out of your way. It was only an idea."
"Don't worry about it. The team owes you anyways for taking care of Pat. I will make sure the tickets are waiting for you."
"I will pay for them Jon!"
"Don't worry about it, really!"
"You sure? I don't want the team thinking I'm in it just for the perks and the money."
"Rach, you don't have to worry about that. No one thinks that. The tickets will be at the desk, and be sure to come down after the game. You can bring your family if you want, however you might really surprise Pat by doing that. "
"Don't worry I won't overwhelm him, and I'll make it seem like it's a complete fluke that the tickets also had a locker room pass. Make sure pat stays back a little bit though afterwards, keep him occupied while I keep my parents occupied with your team" I laughed.
"Shouldn't be a problem. I can't wait to see you guys on Wednesday."
"Thanks again. Bye Jonny."
"Bye Rach, anything for a friend."
I laid back down on my bed. Everything was finally falling into place for me. I had a serious relationship, I was going home, and my family was going to meet Pat even though both parties had no idea how and when. This was going to be a good week I thought to myself as I drifted off to sleep.

Great job

Amazing job. Wasn't expecting him to have another kid from a different relationship in this story. Kudos for them for not resenting each other or the kid though. Great job
