The One Night That Changed My Life Forever

Playoffs

As predicted the Hawks won the next two games at home, meaning that they were back in the finals for the second year in a row. This year however it was a showdown between two Canadian captains. This was it the time for the hawks to shine and create history for themselves. After not winning the cup in 49 years they had broken the drought and were now looking to make history by winning the cup in back to back years, 1 minute, that's all that was left in the game. 1 minute before my boyfriend would be a Stanley cup champion for the third year. Luckily the game was being played in the UC meaning I had great seats, and I would be able to celebrate if we won. I had Ellie, Amanda (Jon's girl), Izzy (who I think was holding on just for this moment), and Pat's family all sitting beside me in the box, along with of course the other WAG's. 1 minute changed into 30 seconds. The building was absolutely electrified. I didn't celebrate quite yet for as it has been shown all it takes is 17 seconds or less to dramatically change the game. The boys were holding onto a one goal lead, and my nerves were definitely getting to me, and I wasn't even playing. 10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1!!!!!! Oh my goodness. "They won!" I yelled jumping and hugging everyone in sight. I could just imagine the parade already, they thought nothing could top the 2013 parade, I had a feeling they were about to be mistaken. "Can you believe it?" I said making my way up to Pat's parents.
"Unbelievable! The first one was crazy now this, this is just unheard of" Pat Sr said shaking his head in amazement.
"You must be so proud!"
"That's for sure, but Pat earned this one all on his own."
"Now, you know that's not true. " I said with a smile, squeezing his shoulder and making my way over to some of the other people celebrating.
"This is so crazy!" I exclaimed making my way over to Ellie, Amanda, and Izzy.
"I know it's Fu-fricken INSANE" El said trying to keep her language Pg for Izzy's sake.
"Abbs! They won!" I exclaimed to a beaming Abby as she made her way over to join our group. "Any less exciting than the first two?"
"No way! It still feels as though they just won it for the first time!"
"This is insane!" I said pointing out at the Madhouse, literally going mad as the Cup was brought onto the ice.
"It's going to be more insane when we make it on the ice."
"Right! I forgot about that part. When can we go?"
"Usually after the ceremony, they come get us."
"I still can't believe this is happening. Someone pinch me. I have to be dreaming."
"Sorry sweetie, not a dream" Abby said winking.
"Thank goodness" I said jokingly. "Honestly I don't think anything could top this moment."
"Same!" Ellie said agreeing with me. The celebrations continued in the box, people hugging this way and that, everything was perfect. We watched the guys accept the cup, and pose for pictures. Then we were told we could make our way towards the ice. I walked down with Izzy, making sure she was strong enough to make it. Everyone made it to the boards and stood along them looking in. From the stands it probably looked pretty cool. They opened the doors allowing us on the ice. It was crazy looking up at thousands of fans. Seeing the stands from the guy's point of view. I felt small amidst the energy coming from the stands.
"Surreal huh?" Pat Sr said coming up beside me, placing his hand on my shoulder.
"Crazy!" I said taking in the Madhouse gone mad. "To think you guys have done this twice already."
"It's been a great few years for these guys, I must say. Who would have known it would come to this when we signed Pat up for his first year of hockey. "
"Aren't you glad you did? He looks so happy. " I said nodding towards Pat who was kissing the cup.
"Excited to touch the cup Izzy?" He leaned down a little to ask the young girl.
"Are you kidding? It was my wish. It's made this life worth it. All the struggles, everything. You have a great son, I owe so much of my happiness to him."
"Wow. It's hard to believe how young you are when you talk like that. I'm glad he could make your dream come true."
"I had to mature quick, to accept what is happening to me. I'm just glad I got to witness this" she smiled sadly.
"Now, now lets not think like that" I said squeezing her shoulder. I stood there talking for a bit more with Pat and Jon's parents before the guys started finding us.
"Jon! Great game!" I exclaimed as he made his way over to his parents, engulfing them in huge hugs.
"Thanks Rach!!!!" he said beaming from ear to ear. "What did you think Miss Isabelle?
"Amazing! The part where you guys won was pretty great too" she said winking earning a smile from Jon.
"That so?"
"Mom! Dad! Rach! Iz! " Pat exclaimed skating over looking just as happy as Jon.
"We wondered when you were going to make an appearance" his parents said shaking their heads each giving him a hug. I got a quick kiss, and Izzy got a hug as well. Pat took Izzy and carried her around the ice in his arms. She was so happy, it was impossible not to smile. Pat's parents were smiling too at the sight.
"You've changed him Rach. He is more interested in her than the cup, it's amazing the difference."
"I don't think I did much." I said shrugging.
"Believe me you did. You introduced him to the world of love." Donna said gushing.
"I don't think that was me. Megs and him were together for 2 years, they had to be in love."
"Not like this, there was always something missing." Donna said and Pat Sr. agreed.
"Well thank you guys, it means so much coming from you. You guys are the best parents ever. Anyone would be lucky to call you their parents."
"As if we didn't know that" they said obviously joking around. " Now if only we could get out kids to tell us that more often."
"Even if they don't say it. They do love you guys like you couldn't believe. Pat lights up even at the mention of your names."
"Funny we thought the same about you." Pat Sr said laughing. As Pat came skating back. He gently set Izzy back on her feet beside me, and proceeded to get the cup. He brought it back, and let Izzy touch it, and even kiss it. She was totally ecstatic. She took a few pictures with some of the guys, and took some that made it seem like she was holding the cup. When Becca came to pick her up she was left with a tired, but happy daughter. The guys said bye to them, and returned to their celebrations. Apparently Pat was in the mood to carry things, as I found myself being skated around in his arms.
"What do ya think?"
"I think you are lucky to get to do this three times. It's unreal, breathtaking!"
"You want to see the cup?"
"Duh! What kind of question is that?"
"A stupid one." He said giving me a quick kiss, making his way back towards the cup.
"My name is here and here" he said pointing out his name on the cup as I marvelled in the sheer beauty of the cup.
"It's truly amazing the places this cup has been. I can't believe I'm actually touching it" I exclaimed while running my fingers along the names.
"Pretty crazy huh?"
"Totally crazy! Now get over here and take a picture with me." We got his parents to take the picture of the two of us holding the cup. We each took one of us separately posing with the cup. I then took one of him with his parents, and the cup of course. Jon offered to take one of all of us, if I could do it for him as well. The pictures were amazing, and the memories were absolutely something I had never dreamed in a million years I would experience. I went over and took pictures of Jon and his family. I was happy him and Amanda were trying the whole long distance relationship thing. They were too cute together. She planned to spend the summer in Winnipeg and I hoped everything went well between the two of them. The parents and wives with kids started to head off Pat's included, promising to make plans with us the next day. The media also made their way out after getting what they wanted, including the fact Pat and I were officially together. The celebration continued exiting the arena and continuing down the Chicago streets, and to one of the Hawks regular clubs. By the time some of the guys made it to the club, they were already well on their way to being drunk. Atleast they had waited until the season was over I thought to myself. "Let's dance" a quite intoxicated Pat whispered into my ear slightly slurred.
"Ok, but you need to slow down the drink fest you have going on here" I said smirking dragging him out to the crowded dance floor.
"Never going to happen." He said shaking his head.
"Worth a shot." I said. I knew dancing would take him away from the bar even if only temporarily.
"You look sexy tonight" he said into my ear.
"Well babe you don't look too bad yourself" I said playing with his curls.
"I love you" he murmured bringing his face to mine, sweeping me up in a mind-blowing kiss. Everything else melted away, it was just us moulding together as one.
"I think I love you too" I responded catching my breath, and smiling up at the most amazing person I had ever loved. After a while we decided to head out, more like I decided to head out for both of our sakes. We said our good byes to everyone, and grabbed a cab to his apartment. I grabbed some bills from my wallet and helped a stumbling Pat to the elevator. "I love you Rach" he mumbled.
"I love you too Pat, but did you have to get this wasted?"
"Should of seen 2010, this is nothing. "
"I can just imagine" I said as the elevator dinged signalling we had reached our floor. I grabbed Pat's keys and made my way into the apartment, helping Pat to his bed to his disappointment. I texted Jonny telling him we had made it home safely. I changed into some sweats before joining a sleeping Pat. I set a couple Advil on the nightstand beside his head, along with a glass of water just incase by some miracle he woke up before me. It was 12 by the time I started to wake up. Apparently I had been pretty tired. Pat was sleeping soundly beside me, although I noticed the Advil was gone. I eased my way out of bed, and checked my messages. I replied to some of the guys, and I told Pat's parents they were welcome to come over for lunch. I started to cook some things for lunch. It was nothing special, but it would have to do seeing as his parents had accepted the invitation. I started cooking some chicken, and rice. I also decided to make a quick salad while waiting for the rice water to boil. Soon enough I had the rice and salad ready, and was waiting on the chicken that would take a bit longer to cook. Pat still wasn't up at 1 when his parents came through the door. I invited them in, and apologized for the lack of Pat's presence. They weren't too worried, expecting his celebration to have been even bigger. I assured them it could have been, and that I was going to wake the lazy bones up. I made my way in and shook him softly.
"What? It's early let me sleep" he whined covering himself with his covers.
"It's 1:30. Not my fault you drank too much. Now come eat lunch with your parents."
"I'm coming. Give me a minute" he said making an effort to get out of bed. He was out in a couple minutes, looking horrible.
"Don't you look lovely today!" Pat Sr. exclaimed as Pat covered his ears to shield them from the noise.
"Shush" he said giving his dad an annoyed face. He sat down at the table back facing the window, and tried his best to act as happy and energetic as he could for his parent's sake. Everyone dug in, saying it was good. I hadn't put in much of an effort so I was glad. I learned that Pat's parents were heading back to Buffalo later that day. Pat mustered up an apology for being hungover on their only day here. "We didn't expect anything less" Pat Sr. chuckled. "We wondered if we would even see you today, so this was a surprise." Donna said smiling. We talked a bit more, about our summer plans. They said I was welcome in Buffalo anytime, and good luck at the training camp if they didn't see me before then. They said their goodbyes which weren't too hard as Pat would be heading home sometime within the next few weeks for his summer vacation. I cleaned up after they left, and Pat watched some replays of last nights game. "You enjoying watching yourself?" I asked sitting next to him on the couch.
"Had to make sure it actually happened" he said smiling.
"And did it?" I winked playing along.
"Yup. It wasn't a dream!" He said pulling me in and kissing my head.
"I hope not. The past day has been perfect " I said smiling.
"I can make it better" he said winking.
"Hmm yes. But you are in no condition" I said frowning.
"I'm always in good enough condition" he said winking. "Plus I want to celebrate!"
"Ill have to think about it " I said smirking. Pat however wasn't letting that happen pushing me into the couch. Just like that, the hangover symptoms disappeared, replaced with those of love, lust and happiness. "Mhmm Pat. You really are in no condition. You are so tired."
"Don't care" he said continuing his kissing assault on my body.
"I do. I need you to be rested and healthy if you want to enjoy the rest of the next few weeks we have together."
"But I want to now" he whined not moving from on top of me.
"I know" I said moving my hands up and down his muscular chest. "You deserve to celebrate, 3 time Stanley Cup Champion" I said biting his lip softly.
"Raach! Again not making this any easier."
"Hey, I said you needed rest. I never said anything about me" I said winking.
"Mhmhm continue" he said pulling me closer leaning back against the couch after sliding off his shirt. I made my way down his body, taking in every muscle. I played with the waistband of his pants before sliding my hands in. I enjoyed being in control, even if it was only once. It didn't take me too long to achieve my goal, to give Pat the celebration he deserved. "See now that wasn't so bad was it?" I smirked at Pat.
"Nah, I complained too soon." he said bringing me back up and kissing me. "You are beautiful."
"Why thank you. Now when can we get rid of this scruff" I asked rubbing his attempt at a playoff beard.
"What? You not a fan of the fuzz?" he asked rubbing his face all over mine.
"Pat! Stop! That tickles. Please?"
"Alright, I'll shave it later on tonight or tomorrow. What's the plan for the rest of today?"
"Well, I'm going to head home. As much as I love being here I have some stuff to do back home. Plus you need your rest for the parade tomorrow, and I need some girl time with El."
"Or you could stay here." He said bringing me in for another kiss.
"Nope, I still have things to do. Love you babe." I said hopping off him, grabbing my coat, putting on my boots and heading out of the apartment.
"See ya Jefrey!" I said to the doorman, as I made my way out. I got a cab pretty quickly and was back home in 20 minutes. I paid the driver and headed up, hopping in the shower as soon as I got in. I changed into some comfy clothes, and went to see if El was even home. I figured she was probably at Brandon's, so I being lazy decided to call it a night even though it was only 7:30. I climbed into bed and skyped with Scott for half and hour or so, texted Quick making sure he knew the Hawks had won the cup, and laughed when his response was summed up perfectly stating 'Shut up' and nothing else. I said goodnight to my brother, texted my parents telling them I would hopefully be coming home soon and that I loved them. I texted El that I was home, just incase she had any "plans" for the apartment, and then I proceeded to fall asleep.
"You ready?" Pat asked coming through my door at 8 in the morning.
"Yup, just a minute" I said pouring my coffee into a thermos.
"Mhmmm that smells good" he said wrapping his arms around me and kissing the back of my head.
"You want some? There's some left, you might need the energy."
"Sure I'll take a bit, still a little hungover. Can you tell?"
"You seem a bit tired, but that's soon to disappear once you make it on the bus." I said handing him the thermos and grabbing my shoes and jersey. "Now I'm ready" I said opening the door and making my way out to Pat's car.
"So this is going to be crazy huh?" I said as we pulled out of my parking lot.
"Just wait!" Pat said flashing me a smile. "Crazy is not the word you will be using to describe it." Minutes later we were at the UC, the starting destination of the parade. We made our way over to the group of guys standing in front of the busses.
"Kaner! Rach! Good to see your alive man!" Jonny said punching Pat's shoulder lightly.
"Funny" he replied back seeming unamused.
"Look! The lovebirds have matching thermoses!" Sharpie exclaimed from in front of us.
"Don't touch!" I said smacking away his attempt at taking my thermos.
"Oww! You didn't have to hit me!" he whined.
"Whatever Sharpie. Go bug your wife" I said winking."Don't be a baby, Abby can't deal with two of those" I called after him smiling. Naturally I received the finger, which I laughed off without another thought to it.
"Which bus do you think is ours?" Pat asked.
"I don't know. I honestly wasn't sure I'd be on a bus. Probably the last one."
"Yup. We're riding with Tazer, Amanda, Crawford, Sadd and El. You should love the arrangement" He said winking.
"Crawford is kind of just awkwardly put amongst couples huh?"
"He'll most likely be drunk anyways. It won't stop him from having fun" Pat winked as we made our way to the busses as people were just starting to climb up. El, Amanda and I sat while the guys chose to stand.
"Can you believe this is happening?" I asked the girls as the buses started moving and there was already massive amounts of people lining the streets just outside of the UC.
"I honestly think this is still a dream." El said looking just as excited as Amanda and I were. There were people everywhere, if you couldn't see past the crowd last year you definitely couldn't see anything but red and white this year. Fans were yelling, taking pictures, waving really anything just to make their presence known. The whole city was electrified. Even if you weren't Hawks fans, if you were in the city of Chicago there is no way you weren't at the parade. After a bit of driving the guys made us, yes made us come and stand beside them and wave to the crowd. I was nervous, and didn't really want to face the public, seeing I was the reason one of their sexiest bachelors was off the market. However I ended up beside Pat waving occasionally at the crowd. The ride neared to an end, as we pulled up to where the guys would be saying their speeches. Us girls waited off to the back of the stage, talking and laughing over some of the speeches. It was a good day overall. I could tell Pat and the rest of the team had thoroughly enjoyed being in the spotlight once again.
"Amazing isn't it?" Q asked coming beside me joining me in crowd watching.
"Incredible. You guys have made the city proud!" I exclaimed. "So glad I got to experience this"
"Maybe it'll be you in a few years" Q said winking.
"Haha. I don't see that happening but thanks Coach" I said returning the wink.
"You never know kiddo. First girl to ever win the cup. Now, that would be something to see." He said heading up to join the team at the podium. I pushed the thoughts of the NHL, to the back of my mind. For now team Canada was still a long shot. The guys finished up with their speeches and made their way back off the stage. Pat made his way over giving me a huge kiss. Jon muttered at us to get a room. For some reason Pat looked very confused. "What?" He asked calling after Jon. "He told us to get a room" I said winking at a still very confused Pat.
"You sure?"
"Yah. Why didn't you hear him?"
"I did. Jon what did you say?" He asked as Jon made his way back.
"To get a room." He said smirking.
"How'd she get that and not me? All I heard was mumbling" Pat pouted.
"Because she's smart."he said with me not noticing again it wasn't english.
"Aweee thanks Jon!" I said giving him a hug. Honestly French seemed like english to me. I could have conversations flipping in an out of english and french no problem. Sometimes however it takes me a while to realize that people aren't speaking english, like now.
"Haha. I see the problem Kaner. "
"I'm starting to see it as well."
"What? What did I do?"
"Seems I have to be careful what I say from now on" Jon said winking.
"Why? OHH…yah now I see. That wash''t english huh? Sorry about that. " I said slightly embarrassed.
Jon just smiled and proceeded obviously to test the extent of my french striking up a conversation in complete French.
*French* (A/N too lazy to actually type this out in french hope you don't mind ;) )
"So you speak french huh?"
"Yup, but not exactly the same as yours."
"Where did you pick yours up?"
"France. I lived there for a couple years. "
"Cool! What for?"
"Well the first time I did an exchange in high school, then I did another in university. That's why I'm just graduating this year."
"Makes sense. Isn't it funny watching Pat squirm?"
I laughed as I looked at a very confused and shocked Pat.
"What did he expect? I am Canadian after all." I said winking.
"ALRIGHT that's enough… we get it. Now could we please speak English? No one else understands!"
"I do!" Crawford came up to us smiling.
"Canadians don't count!"
"Haha that's good because we understood too" Keith said pointing between him and Sharpie.
"Seriously?"
"Yah though I'm for sure not as fluent as those two." He said pointing at Jon and I who were still continuing on our conversation.
"Whoever understands what we are saying, laugh and make it seem as though we said something funny about my boyfriend" I said in french to the group of hockey players that had accumulated behind the stage. Surprisingly all but a couple did what I had said. "And now we know how to communicate with one another, if we don't want them hearing" I said laughing and nodding at the few confused people.
"So it seems as if its the Americans who can't understand eh?" I said returning to English for Pat's sake.
"Everyone else seems to at least understand." Jon said agreeing.
"Alright enough blasting us people who don't understand or speak French." Pat said. "You ready to head back Rach?" Pat asked.
"Sure. You guys doing anything tonight?"
"Probably going out, we will text ya with details once we figure them out" Jon replied.
"Alright see ya guys, again congrats!" I exclaimed hopping up on Pat's back to the amusement of his team mates.
"Comfortable?" he asked after getting over the initial shock.
"Yup." I said laughing and snuggling into his back.
"Hmmm"
I made him carry me a bit further before sliding off his back and going back to walking side by side.
"So french huh?"
"Yup. Two years in France and 4 years in Ottawa does that for ya."
"Cool. So you could teach me some?"
"I could. But really you want to learn French?" I said laughing.
"Yah. So I can understand what Jon is saying about me. I have a feeling he's always smack talking me when he starts speaking french" he said laughing and shaking his head.
"I should have known" I said smiling. "I can probably help you out with that. Every time he speaks french, think about what you were last doing and you'll probably figure out why and what you did. If not come to me and I'll translate it."
"Your probably right. But I do want to learn some even if it's just simple stuff."
"Okay. Your just trying to impress Jon aren't you?"
"Not, entirely. I also just found the best teacher in the world" he said winking.
"Haha now look who's sucking up" I said shaking my head.
"You love it."
"Maybe." I replied with a short kiss. He chuckled bringing me in closer and wrapping his arm around my shoulders. We decided to walk back to the UC, seeing as it was still a beautiful day with lots of light left in it. That was probably not the smartest of ideas on our part. Even finding back routes to the UC were scarce as people were everywhere. We did make it back a good 1.5 hours later, due to autographs and picture taking. I honestly didn't mind, this was his day. We made it back to his apartment, again quite slowly due to roads being full of people.
"Sorry about that" he said chucking his keys and clothes on the bench.
"I'm just thankful for this coffee. It kept me from starving!" I laughed.
"Food! Yes that is a great idea" he said twirling me around.
"We are not going out there again! No way!"
"You automatically assume I have no food? I'm hurt"
"Well do you?" I questioned.
"No" he said smiling. "But I do have takeout menus. We could order something, and relax for the day."
"Just proving my point. But yes a day to relax sounds perfect. What were you thinking for food?"
"Up to you."
"Pizza?"
"Another reason why I love you" he said grabbing his phone and giving me a kiss.
"What's on TV babe?" I heard as he came and snuggled in beside me on the couch.
"Um. Pretty much just you."
"Hmm?"
"You guys are all over. Stanley cup champs 3 times in 5 years hold record breaking parade. Sound familiar?"
"Ahh, yes. That's not going away anytime soon" he chuckled.
"Nope. You made history superstar. Let's see how big it actually was" I said flicking it to the replay of the parade.
"Shit! That's a lot of people" I exclaimed.
"… Now here we have the last bus. This bus has some of our favourites…"
"Shit. I'm on TV" I said burrowing my head into Pat's chest.
"Don' worry. You look great. I'm thinking about maybe taking you to my other events."
"Oh. really? What if I don't want to come?"
"Haha, you better!" he said tickling me.
"Pat. Stop!"
"Your lucky the pizza's here." He said as he got up to answer the door.
I heard him thank the delivery guy laughing a little, and shutting the door. I grabbed some plates and met him back on the couch.
"Mhmmmm. That smells good!" I said sitting down. I passed him a plate and we dug in. Soon the pizza was gone, and we were lying back stomachs happy and settled.
"So, good." Pat said rubbing his stomach.
"Perfect day." I said sighing.
"Agreed. And now to end the perfect day I propose a nice long sleep."
"Haha, you tired too? The coffee kept me going this long, but the effect has definitely worn off" I said answering trying to hide my yawn.
"I didn't get to have my usual pre game nap" Pat said pouting.
"Then lets get you to bed, you baby" I said winking and pulling him off the couch.
"I'm not a baby. I just happen to be used to having naps actually."
"A 25 year old complaining about not having a nap. Priceless" I said shaking my head continuing towards the bedroom.
"Yeah, yeah whatever. Laugh all you want, you will understand when you get back into hockey 24/7."
"Baby."
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
"Nope!"
"Dang you should have told me, I would have bought a crib. That way you could have a comfy nap" I said holding back a laugh.
"Your going to get it now!" he said coming towards me. I ran to the bedroom closing the door and bracing myself for impact. I had my foot jammed along the door sideways seeing as there wasn't a lock on the door. I saw the knob turning, and got ready to withstand the force. It didn't take Pat too long to make his way through my not so strong barricade, I however put up a good fight.
"Not bad Carson, but your still going to get it."
"What's a tired baby really going to do? Here to cry a little? Do I need to rock you to sleep?"
"Haha very funny. That last option would be nice" he said smirking.
"Whatever Kane. I'm going to bed" I said shaking my head as I made my way to the bathroom. A few minutes later I re-emerged into the bedroom only to be greeted by Pat and his tickles.
"What? You taking back your offer to rock this baby to sleep?" He asked smirking.
"Yup!" I said amongst laughs.
"I don't like that" he said pouting and amping up his tickles.
"Awe I'm sorry baby, but mommy's tired" I giggled breaking away and jumping under the covers.
"Fine. We'll sleep." he huffed.
"Don't worry momma still loves you." I said winking and giving him a kiss before snuggling in and closing my eyes.
"Love you too."
"Night."
"Night Rach."
And minutes later I was out, enjoying the comfort and warmth that was coming off of Pat.

Great job

Amazing job. Wasn't expecting him to have another kid from a different relationship in this story. Kudos for them for not resenting each other or the kid though. Great job
