The Diary of an Unintentional Puck Slut

January 12, 2014

Jan. 12, 2014

Dear Diary,

Sid just got back from his weeklong road trip in Canada where they won two of their three games. So Sid not only got welcome back sex, but post-win sex. It’s the same thing really.

While Sid was gone, however, I tried to keep myself busy so I wouldn’t think about him or how lonely it was in his house.

I spent the first day cleaning the entire house and doing laundry. The second day I got into baking. I made so many cupcakes! I brought some to skating practice, but I still have too many left over to eat on my own.

By day three I realized I was starting to miss Sid. I was actually looking forward to seeing some of the Wags to watch the Oilers game that night.

Mrs. Flower has been much nicer lately. I feel like she somehow knows about the miscarriage. But who told her? I don’t think Sid told any of his teammates, and Caeleigh wouldn’t have told anyone, would she?

I was so bored I even went shopping with them the next day. Then we all got our nails done.
I’m used to people approaching Sid for autographs and pictures, but when a little girl at the mall noticed me it freaked me out. She said I was her favorite figure skater and gave me a hug.

Caeleigh and the other wags thought it was cute, but I was a little shocked by the whole thing.
That night when Sid and I were Skyping I told him about it and he laughed.

“You’re probably the first ice girl that’s happened to,” he said still laughing.

“I don’t know how you deal with that,” I replied, “At least you have a reason for people to ask for pictures and stuff. I’m just an ice girl.”

“No, you’re a little more than that,” he said, still smiling.

“Okay, I’m your girlfriend, but nobody cares about that,” I replied. Actually, a lot of people did care, mostly girls, but not in the way that they would want a picture with me.

“No, I didn’t mean that,” he explained, “I meant you’re more than an ice girl. You’re really good at skating you know.”

“What? No I’m not. I’m not that much better than Caeleigh,” I could feel myself blushing. I hate being complimented on my skating. Or anything else really. I don’t know why, I think it’s more than modesty, but I hate being recognized for being good at anything.

“You’re an excellent skater, and you know it. How many other people can do a back flip like that?”

“Probably a lot,” I said looking down.

“I miss you Emme,” he said looking sad.

“I miss you too,” I replied.

“I have to go to bed soon, and you must be up pretty late since you are two time zones away from me and it’s late here,” he said, looking tired.

“I have nothing to do except watch Netflix and bake cupcakes, so it doesn’t really matter how late I stay up or when I wake up.”

“You’re making cupcakes?” He asked sounding very excited.

“Yeah, I love baking and stuff like that. Maybe I’ll bake you a ‘welcome back from Canada’ cake when you get back,” I said smiling.

“What kind of cake is that?” he asked laughing.

“I don’t know, maple syrup cake? With a moose on it?” I suggested.

Sid laughed for a good full minute, and I heard his roommate (not sure who it was this time) laughing too. “That is perfect Emme, I expect that when I return. Goodnight, I love you.”

“I love you too.”

The next day I set out to find a recipe for Canadian maple cake. I ended up going to the CMU library, because I am a student there, and tried to find a Canadian cook book.

I ended up running into one of my professors, the one I had for the Austen Lit. class. I didn’t tell her why I was looking for a recipe for Canadian maple cake, mostly because I didn’t want everyone at school knowing I was dating Sidney Crosby.

She somehow talked me into signing up for the class she was teaching the next semester on modern British literature. I mean, if Sid is offering to pay for it, I should at least take one class, right?

After lunch I gave up trying to find a recipe, but I did find several cookbooks that might be helpful. I called Caeleigh and we decided a True Blood marathon was much more important, so I spent the rest of the day at her house.

The next day we continued our marathon until that night when we watched the Pen’s last road trip game. By then I was used to staying up late to watch their 10:00 games.

Caeleigh was not. And when she gets tired she starts to ramble about things she wouldn’t normally talk to me about. She and I are close, but there are still many things we don’t talk about.

Like gossip. I’m not a huge fan of that, but Caels has a knack for ‘knowing things.’ Things you would never want to know about people. Or care about.

She started rambling about Tanner Glass’s new baby, and how cute it was and whatever girl Nealer had been seen with lately. Then she talked about how Duper was going to have surgery for his torn ACL, which was actually interesting.

“Yeah, Mrs. Duper is really upset that he’s going to be out the rest of the season, but at least he’s at home and can see his kids. The other day when she and I got lunch she asked how you were doing, after the miscarriage and all, and I said you were doing well, and-”

I cut her off, “what did you say? She asked about the miscarriage? How did she know about that?”

Caeleigh looked surprised that I had interrupted her, “I, I don’t know. I didn’t say anything, I promise. I guess she heard it from her husband? I mean he and Sid are really close, that might be the kind of thing Sid would talk to him about.”

Who else did he tell? I just told Sid, my mom, and Caeleigh. And Brandon, I forgot about him.
He wouldn’t have told anyone, right?

“Hey Caels,” I said interrupting her recount of Tanger’s life.

“What have you heard about Brandon?”I asked

“Brandon Sutter?” She asked, looking really tired.

“Yes, that one.” I replied, trying not to show how annoyed I was (not with her, just in general).

“Well, since he and his girlfriend broke up, he’s been seen out with a couple of different girls, but rumor has it that he hasn’t actually taken any of them home, if you know what I mean.”

“Yes, I do. What kind of girls?”

“Just girls, mostly blond, fake looking girls, puck bunny-type. Why do you want to know?”

“I just wanted to know how he was doing after his break up.” She looked at me for a second, but I think she believed me.

She fell asleep a few minutes later, and I went to bed.

Brandon wouldn’t have told anyone, would he? It would just make things complicated, because he’d have to explain why I told him, and I feel like that’s something he’d want to avoid.

After Sid returned, I decided to pay Brandon a visit. I had been at his house a couple of times that week to visit my cat (and feed her, when he’s away she’s all alone).

After asking him some casual things such as, how was Canada? And did you get to go home at all? (Which he did), I decided to ask him about the miscarriage.

“I didn’t tell anyone, why?” He looked a little offended that I even asked.

“Somehow some of the wags found out about it, and Caeleigh said she didn’t tell anyone,” I explained.

“Do you believe her?” He asked looking skeptical.

“Yeah, she wouldn’t tell anyone about that. I don’t think so, at least,” I paused and thought about it some more.

“I swear I didn’t tell anyone. That would complicate things for me as well,” he said.

I sighed and sat down on the couch. “I guess Sid did tell someone. I didn’t even know he told his sister until she started talking to me about it.”

“Maybe he just needed someone to talk to,” he said sitting next to me.

I leaned against his shoulder, “I guess, but why wouldn’t he just talk to me? We barely talked about it all.”

“I don’t know, but I can promise I didn’t tell anyone,” he said leaning over to kiss the top of my head. We sat like that for a few minute, not talking, deep in thought.

Suddenly I sat up, “I brought you cupcakes!” I handed him the box I had set on the couch next to me.

“Thank you,” he said opening the box.

“And sorry you didn’t make team Canada,” I said.

He laughed, “I wasn’t planning to, but thank you.”

“I don’t know,” I said smiling and rolling my eyes.

Now that I know it wasn’t Brandon, I realize Sid must have talked to someone. I really don’t want to confront him and make him feel uncomfortable, but I’d like to know who he told.

Sincerely,

Emme

P.S.: Sid liked the cake. I tried to make a moose out of fondant but it ended up looking like a dinosaur with antlers, which is also pretty cool.

She might.
If she were to do that, who would you suggest? I'm not that familiar with the team.
