The Diary of an Unintentional Puck Slut

January 6, 2014

Jan. 2, 2013

Dear Diary,

I can’t believe it’s 2014 already! My New Year’s resolution is to be a better girlfriend to Sid and to stop thinking about Brandon.

Sid and I watched the winter classic game between the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs. It was nice to actually watch a game with him, and not just watch him playing.

He kept telling me how awesome it was to play outside and about the outdoor games the Pen’s had played in. They have an outdoor game in Chicago in March that he’s really excited about.

I was pretty out of it though, after the night before. We went out with Caeleigh and Geno and a bunch of the guys after they returned from their game in New Jersey (which they sadly lost). I feel weird drinking around Sid, so I didn’t have more than one drink. I don’t know why, maybe it’s because he doesn’t drink much. I still had fun though, and I didn’t see Brandon making out with any girls (actually I didn’t see him at all) so I didn’t freak out about that. Sid and I kissed at midnight, it was very cute!

He and I went to Consol yesterday for practice, and after practice I taught him how to figure skate. Or I tried to.

He insisted on wearing his helmet incase he fell over.

“You don’t want me to get another concussion, do you?” He asked smiling.

“Sid, you’re not going to fall over. We’re just doing some basic stuff.” I said pulling him onto the ice. “Besides, it’s not like you don’t know how to skate.”

We only skated for half an hour, and he did okay, but I could tell he was tired. Maybe next time we won’t skate right after he has practice.

Today Caeleigh and I spent the day choreographing for the next few games. I think Kate is realizing that Caels and I are better skaters then her because a lot of our stuff recently has sort of featured me or Caeleigh while the rest of the ice girls are kind of like our back up dancers. It’s kind of weird how much people have gotten into watching us skate. Also, I’m pretty sure I saw someone wearing a Saxon 87 jersey at the last game. I guess the video of Caeleigh and I playing hockey with the guys was on the Pen’s website and now that’s kind of a thing.

Not sure how I feel about that.

And my family is visiting next week. Sid suggested they come down for their game on the 5th against the Jets before I could even ask him. He even offered to pay for their flights and got them really nice rooms at a fancy hotel. I was very glad he didn’t think of asking them to stay here, in his house, with us. That would have been awkward.

Sadly, I am not looking forward to it. I’m not sure why; nothing bad could really happen from them meeting. But they fly in tomorrow, Saturday, and they’ll leave Sunday night after the game.

Sincerely,

Emme

Dear Diary,

Sid has offered to pay for the rest of my grad school. I was kind of shocked, but I think it’s because I was contemplating dropping out. I’m not sure I would be okay with that, but I have a few more weeks to think about it before signing up for classes.

We’ll see.

-

“Have you seen the new guy? They just got him from the Rangers,” I asked Caeleigh as we put our skates on before Friday’s game.

“No, is he here yet?” She asked.

“Yeah, Sid and I met him last night, to welcome him to the team or something, and he’s super cute. He looks like Chris Pine,” I said smiling.

“Who?” She asked.

“He plays Captain Kirk?” I replied but she still looked confused, “In the new Star Trek movies?”

She looked at me for a minute trying to figure out what I was talking about, “Oh, I’ve never seen Star Trek.”

“What?!” I replied, shocked that one of my closest friends had not seen one of my favorite movies. “We need to fix that. But look up Chris Pine, I swear he looks just like him.”

“Oh my God he’s hot,” she said looking at her phone, “We need to find him, what’s his name?”

“Taylor Pyatt,” I said as we got up to look for him.

“Seriously his eyes are gorgeous,” I said as we walked into the guy’s locker room. “There he is, number 17.”

“Wow, he’s tall too,” she said as we crept closer, trying to get a look at his eyes. We were pretty close, maybe 4 or 5 feet away, when he noticed us.

“Hey,” he said. Caeleigh and I giggled and tried to pretend we hadn’t been creeping on him.

“Hi Taylor, excited for your first game?” I asked, trying to look normal.

“Yeah, it’ll be weird playing my old team, but it happens,” he said looking up at us. I heard Caeleigh squeak when she saw his eyes.

“Cool. We have to go now,” I said pulling her out of the room.

“OMG his eyes!” She whispered. “I would totally hypothetically bang him.”

“Yeah, me too. Hypothetically.” I replied

The Pen’s beat the Rangers, which was probably really weird for Taylor, but I didn’t care about that.

“Sid!” I said as I climbed into bed next to him. “We haven’t had sex all year!”

He laughed and looked at me, “It’s only January 3rd, that’s not that long.”

“Either way, we’d better fix that,” I said removing my clothes, “I mean the sex thing. We can’t change the date.”

-

The next day I invited Caeleigh over for a Star Trek marathon. Sid joined us for the second movie after his practice got out. I think Caeleigh might have a bit of a crush on Benedict Cumberbatch now (how could she not?) after Star Trek: Into Darkness. Sid did not understand why we thought he was so attractive.

After Caeleigh left I met my family at the airport and brought them to their hotel to get checked in. Sid met us at the restaurant for dinner. I was hoping that if we were in a public place my mom wouldn’t freak out too much. I was wrong.

“Oh my goodness Emmeline, why didn’t you tell me he was this handsome,” my mom said as we sat down. And yes, Sid was right next to me and could hear everything she said.

“And Sidney, this really is too kind of you to pay for everything for us,” she continued, “that is probably the nicest hotel I have ever been in. Did you see the bathrooms? They’re bigger than my living room.”

Sid laughed, “I’m glad you like it Mrs. Saxon.”

“Please, call me Linda,” my mom said looking over the wine list. “So, who are we watching the Penguin’s play tomorrow?”

“The Winnipeg Jets,” Sid replied.

“The Jets? Isn’t there also a team called the Sharks? Do they ever play each other?” My mom asked with a smile, and I knew where she was going with this so rolled my eyes and hid behind my menu.

“Um, probably, but I’m not sure,” Sid replied looking uncomfortable.

Ignoring my eye roll, my mom continued, “You know, the sharks and the jets, from West Side Story?”

“Oh, yeah,” Sid said trying to look like he knew what was going on.

“I don’t think Sid is as much into musical theater as you are mom,” I said and tried to change the subject. “I got my grades from last semester, a B+ and an A-.”

“Wow, that’s great, especially for grad school. What are you taking next semester?” My mom asked.

“I’m not sure yet,” I looked down, realizing I had changed to subject to something else I didn’t want to talk about. “I don’t know if I want to keep going to school.”

“Why not? You’re doing well so far,” she replied.

“I don’t really see the point any more, and it’s kind of expensive.” I should not have mentioned the expensive part.

“I’ll pay for your classes,” Sid offered.

My mom’s face lit up, but she didn’t say anything.

“That’s very kind of you,” I turned to look at Sid as I kicked him under the table. “But you’ve already been so kind to me, with the car and everything.”

“It really wouldn’t be a problem, unless CMU classes are a couple million dollars per credit,” he said.

I reluctantly agreed after Maria said something about how she wished someone had paid for her master’s degree and complained about student loans.

The rest of dinner went okay. I think my mom was kind of weird/nervous because I was dating someone new. She didn’t know all the details behind why Cam and I broke up, but she knew I had not been happy in that relationship. Now that she was meeting my new boyfriend, she wanted to make sure he was not the same type of person Cam was. And he’s not, I think she could tell that before she even met him.

I did a little site seeing and other touristy things with them the next day until I had to get ready for the game. Maria and my mom talked about how much they liked Sid, and Cliff said he was ‘okay.’ I think this is why Cliff and I get along so well, because we never make a big deal out of anything. Unlike my mom and Maria.

I found them before the game to make sure they had gotten there okay. My mom was very impressed with Consol and couldn’t believe how many people were there. I watched the first ten minutes of the game with them before I had to leave to get ready to skate.

I talked Kate into letting me skate to ‘Hey Ho’ by The Lumineers (currently my favorite song), and she let me because she knew I had family visiting and it was a special night for me. It’s not the kind of song we normally skate to, so I was worried it wouldn’t be received well. But it turns out Penguins fans are okay with indie/hipsterish music.

After I left the ice my brother texted me to say that my mom cried while I was skating.

After the game, which they won 5-6, Sid and I took them out to dinner again before they had to leave. My mom was very emotional at the airport and kept telling me what a great guy Sid was and how lucky I was to find someone who loved me and would look after me.

Even Cliff thought Sid was pretty great.

I guess I have to marry him now. Just kidding.

Sid leaves for a weeklong road trip to Canada tonight so we spent the day together until he went to practice.

I’m going to be so bored next week without him. Maybe I’ll take up knitting.

Sincerely,

Emme

P.S.: Apparently Taylor Pyatt has a brother (Tom Pyatt) who looks Ryan Gosling.
How is this possible?
Why?

Edit: I accidentally deleted this story when I was trying to fix a spelling error in the title so I'm reposting all of the chapters. And I changed my user name, so don't be surprised.

She might.
If she were to do that, who would you suggest? I'm not that familiar with the team.
