The Diary of an Unintentional Puck Slut

One month! One more month with these two tiny human beings stuck inside of me! I am getting so tired of being pregnant. I feel like Jupiter.
Brandon and I are at his lake house in Alberta and I love it! I never realized how beautiful (and big) Canada is.
I’ve been pretty tired since we got here, but when I was feeling up to it he showed me around a bit. We went to the Sutter farm and saw the cows (baby cows are so cute!) and I got to meet a lot of his family. He showed me where the Red Deer Rebels play, and while we were there we ran into his dad and Mark.
“Brent, so nice to see you again!” I said as he leaned in to give me a hug.
“Wow, you have gotten so big,” he said patting my stomach. “Twins, eh?”
“Yeah, twins,” I replied.
“I guess it runs in the family,” he said.
I looked at Brandon, “What?” (Does Brandon have a secret twin?)
“Two of my uncles are twins,” Brandon explained.
“Wow, I guess more than just hockey runs in this family,” I responded, trying to make a joke but Brandon and Mark both knew the other twin was actually a Staal.
His dad laughed, “Will we see you guys tonight for dinner?” He asked on his way out.
“Yeah we’ll be there,” Brandon replied.
“Dinner?” I asked him.
“Yeah, it’s nothing formal, but you will get to meet the rest of my family,” Brandon said with a smile, but I was not smiling. I felt kind of embarrassed meeting his family, mostly because I’m his pregnant girlfriend.
That night I tried not to stand out, but (as I said) it’s hard to hide when you feel like Jupiter. I ended up sitting in a corner, trying to hide, but all of his aunts and uncles and cousins had to come over and introduce themselves at least once (there was a lot of drinking). I told Brandon he didn’t have to sit with me, so after a while he left to talk to some cousins he hadn’t seen in a while. I didn’t mind sitting alone, but his sister sat with me after a few minutes.
“Did my brother abandon you?” She asked.
I laughed, “yeah it looks like it,” I joked.
“I’d offer to get you something to drink, but I guess you can’t drink anything here but water,” she laughed. “Mind if I sit with you for a while?”
“Yeah, I’d love that.” She walked around the table to sit next to me.
“So, what’s up?” she said setting her beer down and turning to face me.
“Not much, I’m just, you know, being pregnant and all,” I smiled. “How are you?”
“I’ve been busy with college and volleyball, but that’s boring. I want to know what’s up with you. Last time I saw you, you were dating Sidney Crosby, and now you’re pregnant with my brother’s baby.”
“With his baby?”
“Yes, I know about Eric Staal, Mark told me.”
“Oh,” I looked down. (What else had Mark told her?)
“No, it’s okay,” she reassured me, “Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be mean or anything. I actually think it’s kind of cool in a way. You’ve combined two famous hockey families.”
I laughed, “I hadn’t thought of it that way. Wait, your whole family doesn’t know, do they?”
“No, just Mark and I; I know you and Brandon want to keep it a secret.”
“Yeah, and so does Eric. Are you looking forward to being an aunt?” I asked.
“Yes! We’re all so happy. And we love the names you’ve picked; I like that you’re naming the boy after your dad.”
“Thank you, and Eric picked the name Eloise.”
She and I talked for the next fifteen minutes until she left to get more to drink.
Brandon hadn’t come back yet (not sure where he was) so I was alone again.
I made myself look busy by pretending to do something on my phone.
I saw Mark out of the corner of my eye and tried to ignore him, but he came over and sat with me.
“Hey,” he said sitting down a little closer than I would have liked.
“I was surprised to see you earlier today,” I replied, moving over so I wasn’t so close to him.
“Why? I work there, sort of.”
“You ‘sort of’ work there? And what do you ‘sort of’ do there?”
“I’m the vice president, and it’s off season so I wasn’t really working.”
“Oh,” I was actually surprised, “I didn’t know that. I guess that’s what happens when your dad owns a hockey team.”
“Yeah, we all sort of work for them in some way,” he laughed. “I’m glad you and Brandon were able to work things out. I would have felt really bad if you guys broke up because of me.”
“Yeah, I think were okay again, I’m not sure. I kind of feel like he’s just staying with me because I’m pregnant.”
“No, he likes you a lot. He wouldn’t have brought you out here to meet our entire family if he didn’t care about you.”
I sighed, “I don’t know. Though he did mention something about wanting to meet my family.”
“See? He wouldn’t want to meet your family if he didn’t love you,” he said, trying to cheer me up.
I shrugged, “I feel like I’ve let him down. He never cared when I slept with Beau or Neal, and he didn’t even get that mad when Eric and I had sex, but with you it’s different. You’re his brother.”
“It could be worse,” he said with a smirk, “You could have slept with Chloe.”
“Don’t give me any ideas,” I joked.
And speaking of Chloe, she reappeared after getting more to drink. “I thought I heard my name.”
Mark and I laughed as she sat down across from us.
“It’s nothing, your brother’s just being perverted,” I smiled but gave him a stern look. “You were just leaving, right?”
“Yeah, if that’s what you want,” he said getting up.
“And can you find Brandon? I’m getting kind of tired,” I said to him as he walked away.
“You and Mark seem to be getting along pretty well,” Chloe said as we watched him wander through the crowd looking for Brandon.
“Yeah, he visited during playoffs because Brandon didn’t want me to be alone,” I didn’t feel like elaborating what else had happened.
“I wish I could have gone, Brandon asked me if I wanted to come too, but I had school,” she frowned.
“That’s too bad. He and I had a lot of fun, though.” And we probably wouldn’t have had sex if his little sister was there. Brandon appeared out of nowhere and sat down next to Chloe, causing her to jump.
“Hey, you were looking for me?” he said to me, and I could tell he’d been drinking a bit more than usual. He wasn’t drunk or slurring his words or anything, he just seemed a little happier/less careful/more relaxed than usual.
“Yeah, I was getting kind of tired, maybe we could head home soon?” I asked him.
“Oh, so soon?” He responded with feigned disappointment. “Actually,” he said as he leaned forward and took my hands with a look in his eyes, “There are so many things I want to do to you-”
“Okay don’t need to know that,” Chloe cut him off as she stood up.
I blushed, but Brandon just laughed. I stood up and tried to pull him. “Come on, let’s get you home.”
It was difficult, but I got him home in one piece. By the time we got home and into bed he had forgotten all of those things he wanted to do to me, and he fell asleep. I was disappointed, I was actually looking forward to it a little. Drunk Brandon is usually fun Brandon.
I guess I’ll just go to sleep, or something.

Whatever doubts I had about the legitimacy/reliability/strength of our relationship have been completely eliminated. Over the past few days Brandon has proved that he is still 100% in love with me, if not more than he was before.
Yesterday he had a conference call with the Sharks’ GM, head coach, and a few other people from San Jose management. I knew it was an important call, so I anxiously awaited the results.
I went outside to try to relax, but I kept watching the sliding glass door on the porch for him.
Eventually I just sat on a rock and watched a squirrel until he came out.
“How did it go?” I asked him as he sat next to me.
“Much better than I thought,” he looked surprised, even a little shocked, but happy. “They want to see how things go for the first few months, and if it works they’ll have me sign a five year, fourteen million dollar contract.”
My jaw dropped. ($14,000,000!!!!) (Over five years of course, which averages to about 2.8 million per year) (But that’s still a lot).
“And they’re thinking of putting me on the second line, and maybe even making me an alternate captain.”
“Oh my God Brandon that’s amazing!” I leaned over to hug him.
“I know, I’m very surprised, but this all depends on how those first few months go.”
“You’ll be great, why wouldn’t they like you? And what happens if they don’t?” I asked apprehensively
“I don’t know, they might stick me on the third line if it doesn’t work out, but I’ll be there for at least a year.”
He turned to look at me, and grinned, “I think we should start looking at houses.”
He laughed, “Yes.”
“Aren’t you a little over confident?” I asked smiling.
He shrugged, “I don’t know, I just have a feeling it’ll work out. Besides, I really want a house with you, for us,” he leaned over and patted my stomach.
“Us,” I whispered to myself, starting to feel confident in our relationship again.
I have spent the last day and a half looking at houses with him, and I couldn’t be happier.
I think things are really heading in the right direction for us.
P.S.: So happy!
I don't remember if I mentioned it last time I wrote about her, but Chloe is his sister. Or, the name I gave her, that's not his real sister's real name.
However, I did get a little stalkerish (it's not stalking, it's research) for this chapter, but as usual I try not to include too many details of their personal lives.
I personally love this chapter, and I hope you do too! Feedback and suggestions are welcome!
PS. congrats to Canada on the gold medal!
