The Diary of an Unintentional Puck Slut

October 7, 2014

September 30, 2014

Dear Diary,

Remember how I said I hoped Tommy didn’t say anything to Brandon before I could talk to him? Well he did, of course, and he was just trying to be polite, but it ended horribly.

During some kind of drill at practice Brandon and Tommy ended up talking while waiting for their turns. Tommy had just started talking about it when he got interrupted by his ex (Chelsea). She had snuck past security and was now screaming somewhere off ice about what a whore I was, and how she saw me kissing Tommy.

“What the hell?” Brandon turned to Tommy.

“Emme hasn’t talked to you yet?” Tommy started, but Chelsea saw him on the ice and started screaming at him. Tommy left to deal with her, and Brandon, very confused, watched the two fighting, trying to figure out what was going on.

I didn’t know about any of this until Brandon got home. Caeleigh was out doing God knows what with poor Tomas Hertl (I’m not sure he likes her that much) and she and I were supposed to meet up later for the ice girls practice.

Brandon slammed the front door and I put Teddy back in his crib and closed the door to the nursery as I left. I knew this was probably going to get ugly and I didn’t want the twins waking up.

“Emme!” Brandon yelled, and I rushed down the stairs to find him.

“Brandon I can explain, please just listen!” I knew why he was mad, and pretending it was nothing would only make it worse.

He grabbed my shoulders and pushed me against the wall a little more forcefully than I had expected, but it didn’t hurt.

He looked me in the eyes seriously and I was surprised to see that he looked more hurt than mad.

“Do you love me?” He asked, his eyes looked so sad, yet the rest of his face was set hard in anger.

“It wasn’t what you think he was-”

“Do you love me!” He asked again a bit more sternly. I’d never seen him like this, and it scared me. Tears slowly began rolling down my cheeks.

“Yes,” I replied, and looked up at him, afraid of what he might do next. He relaxed his firm grip on my shoulders and pulled me into his chest, wrapping his arms around me as I began sobbing.

“I’m sorry,” he said quietly and began stroking my hair.

“No, I’m the one that needs to apologize,” I pushed away from him and looked up at his face. “And it’s not what it seems. He saw his ex girlfriend and just kissed me before I realized what was happening. But then I played along with it and held his hand, that’s all. He just wanted to make her jealous, and I understand that, but we shouldn’t have kissed.”

“I just don’t want to lose you,” he said, still looking sad.

“What do you mean? I’m not going anywhere.”

“You cheated on Sid because you didn’t love him, I get that. So if you ever cheat on me…. I’ll know what that means,” it looked like it hurt him to say that, and I wanted to reassure him that I loved him and I would never cheat on him, but the moment was ruined.

Caeleigh, whom I had not notice come home, walked by singing ‘if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it’ and started doing the Single Ladies dance next to us.

“Caels…. No, this is not a good time for that,” I said, turning to her with a smile (I couldn’t help laughing at her awkward dancing) and she stopped. “Weren’t you out with Tomas?”

“Yeah, but he told me what happened at practice, some crazy bitch yelling at Tommy because he kissed you, so I thought I’d come home and see if you needed a hug or something,” she smiled a little, and started to look like the old Caeleigh.

I told them what happened after Caeleigh abandoned us at lunch with Logan, and how we ended up in a grocery store, and he saw his ex….and then he kissed me.

“This is not my fault,” Caeleigh said as soon as I finished. “Logan just wanted to see a movie with me and it was starting soon so we had to leave you guys.”

“I didn’t say it was your fault, but it probably wouldn’t have happened if you had, I don’t know, invited me to come with you to the movies?” I asked sarcastically. “What movie did you watch?”

“I don’t remember, I wasn’t really paying attention,” she said, inspecting her pink nails.

“Of course you don’t remember,” I rolled my eyes and was about to say something else really mean to her when Brandon interrupted.

“Don’t you guys have practice?”

“Yeah, head ice girl can’t be late for practice,” Caeleigh snapped at me and left to get her skates and stuff.

“Um, what just happened?” Brandon asked with a slightly bewildered expression.

I shook my head. “I have no idea what’s going on with her, but hopefully it’s just a phase.”

I started to leave to get my skates but turned back to him. “You know, I wouldn’t have been in that whole situation yesterday if we had more than one car for the three of us. Maybe, instead of a ring, you could get me a car?” I smiled and tried to look super cute so he’d say yes.

“You want me to propose to you with a car?” Brandon looked confused.

“No. There will be no proposing. I just meant that instead of ‘if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it,’ maybe: ‘if you like me you should get me a car.’ Or whatever,” I smiled and hoped he understood my confusing metaphor.

“You know, we just bought a house, and remodeled half the rooms in it, and my contract isn’t official yet, so-”

“Okay, I get it, we can’t afford a car,” I smiled up at him. “I never thought we’d have to argue about money.”

“We’re not poor or anything,” He laughed, “I’m just not making 4.3 million a year yet.”

“4.3? I thought it was going to be closer to 3 million?”

“No, they had more cap space in the budget than they thought and decided to offer me more, not that it matters to me. As long as I have you I’ll be happy,” he leaned down to kiss my on the cheek and I smiled. “Besides, don’t you make money as head ice girl? Buy yourself a car.”

We both laughed, knowing I didn’t make enough to buy a new car.

-

Things got better with Caeleigh soon after that, which was just in time for our first game. It was against the Aves, and we lost, and it was sad. Brandon’s first game as a Shark, and they lost. They only lost by one, so it wasn’t too bad, but still disappointing. It was exciting to see him skating thought that shark’s mouth at the beginning of warms ups for the first time.

They are now on a two game road trip to southern California and will be back tomorrow. But in the meantime, I miss him. At least Caels is here and she doesn’t have any hockey players to run off with and leave me stranded.

But I get to have the car all to myself while Brandon is not here, so that’s one positive thing about him being gone. : )

Sincerely,

Emme

Dear Diary

I think Caeleigh is definitely starting to calm down (as far as boys are concerned) now that the season has started. The guys are less available for her to follow around, and I try to keep her busy. We have ice girls practice almost every day there isn’t a game and we have ‘team yoga’ on Wednesdays and she and I go running every Thursday. And of course we have the twins, they take up a lot of time between the two of us. We went to the park the other day with them and this guy thought we were lesbians and the twins were our babies. It was hilarious; I went along with it, but Caeleigh was freaked out.

As soon as Brandon got back from their road trip they had a game and then left two days later for a four day road trip to Canada. Is it going to be like this all season?

But, while he was back for two days I spent as much time with him as possible. I talked Caeleigh into watching the twins for a night, despite the fact that she wanted to go out with Logan and ‘watch a movie’ or whatever they actually did last time.

“Why don’t you invite him over?” I suggested. “I’m sure he’s responsible enough to help you take care of two babies.”

“You’d be okay with that?” She asked pulling out her phone to text him.

“Yeah, just don’t make out in front of them,” I teased her and she rolled her eyes.

Brandon and I went to a lovely restaurant, and because it’s still warm out we sat outside on a second floor terrace. It was really nice and there weren’t too many other people there, so it was quiet.

“How did you find this place?” I asked him. I was still trying to remember how to get home from the arena each day, how could he find nice restaurants that have cool terrace’s with flowers?

“Thornton recommended it; I guess he comes here with his wife often,” Brandon replied. “Do you want some wine?”

“Yes, you can pick, I suck at that,” I picked up my menu and read it over as he ordered a bottle of red for us. “I wonder why they call him Jumbo…” I said, more to myself than Brandon, after the waiter left.

“I don’t know, he’s kind of big I guess,” Brandon answered and looked at me across the table. “Emme, can I talk to you about something?”

I put down my menu and looked at him. “Yeah what is it?”

“This is about what we talked about the other day,” he started.

“You’re getting me a car!” I sounded like a teenage girl asking her parents for a car.

Brandon laughed, “no about the other thing. We kind of got interrupted by Caeleigh.”

I was suddenly terrified that he was about to get down on one knee and propose. “Brandon, you had better not be doing what I think you are, because if you are, please stop.”

My heart was beating so fast and my palms began to sweat as I waited for him to respond.

“I was just going to say that we should talk about our future, that’s all,” he smiled and held up his hands. “See? No little black jewelry boxes.”

We both started laughing. “Okay, I’m sorry. I’m just a little sensitive around that subject. “

“I know,” he smiled, “which is why I thought maybe we could talk about what we are right now, and not worry about any of that.”

“What we are right now? We’re dating, aren’t we?” I asked, feeling stupid as I realized how dumb my question was.

“Yes, but we’re a little bit more than that, right?” Brandon asked.

I nodded, but I wasn’t sure what he was talking about. (What’s more than dating but less than married?)

“We’re kind of partners,” Brandon answered my unasked question.

“Like partners in crime?” I asked with a smile.

“Yeah, except more like partners in life,” Brandon laughed lightly and looked at me apprehensively.

“Life partners,” I said, trying to get the feel of it. “I like how that sounds.”

“Yeah, except if people ask, and I tell them you’re my partner, it might sound like we’re gay,” he smiled.

“I don’t care, I’d be gay for you,” I smiled back and he gave me a strange look. “That reminds me, someone thought Caeleigh and I were lesbians the other day at the park, it was really funny.”

We spent the rest of dinner talking about random stuff other than hockey and figure skating (mostly the twins).

When we got home I was a little surprised to see Tomas sitting in my rocking chair holding my baby girl.

“She slept the whole time,” he said with a big smile and handed her to me. He was about to leave when I stopped him.

“Where’s Caeleigh?” I noticed Teddy was in his crib, so she wasn’t feeding him.

“She left,” he said, looking disappointed. “She asked me to come over to hang out and help her watch the twins. After half an hour she realized I was good with babies and took off.”

Brandon and I exchanged worried glances. “Thank you for staying with them, I’m so sorry she used you like that, I don’t know what has gotten into her lately.”

“It’s fine, but I don’t think I’ll be responding to many more of her texts any time soon,” he said before he left.

“Poor Tomas,” I said to Brandon after I put Elli to bed.

“I don’t know, he looked awfully happy to be holding a baby, we might have a new sitter,” He joked, but Tomas had looked really comfortable with Ellie, like he saw babies all the time. I wonder if he has younger siblings or something? (because I really don’t think he has children)

Caeleigh knew she was in trouble when she returned, and I am starting to feel like her mom. I can’t ground her or anything, though I wish I could. Take her phone away or something.

But now that the guys are on another road trip she’s settled down again, at least until they return and she goes out drinking with Logan or whomever.

Maybe she shouldn’t date a hockey player after all.

I don’t really know any other guys, though.

Sincerely,

Emme

Notes

Did their date sound familiar? If you read Redemption of a Puck Slut it might....
Not that it's important, I'm just making parallels between the two. (Slight hinting)

So mad the Pen's lost, hopefully they'll do better tomorrow.

And Maatta is hurt : ( My baby penguin.

She might.
If she were to do that, who would you suggest? I'm not that familiar with the team.
