Don't Let Go

Any Time

We went back home with baby Kate about a couple days later. Even though we’ve known that she was going to be a girl for 8 months we still didn’t decorate her room. Actually we really didn’t have a room for her. I was planning on her to stay in our room since there was so much space left; I also wanted her closer to us if something happened during the night. We had a crib, a changing table and the rest of the baby necessities all sitting in our room. But then again I was also thinking about giving her the guest room which would make things a lot easier for all of us when she got older.

“Patrick?” I said putting her in the wooden crib, “Yeah babe?”

“I was thinking,” I started, “What about if we got rid of all the stuff in the guest room and made that Kate’s room?”

He paused for a bit as I waited with baited breath for the answer… Well not really but it took awhile for him to come up with the answer, “So?” He did this on purpose, “Well…” He started, “I think we can do that!” He said smiling at me.

“Yay!” I screamed almost waking Kate up. I always loved decorating. I got to help decorate Erica’s room when we were little. “Okay, I was planning on her room to be a cute bubbly color like a light purple or a light pink, and in the crib the sheets would be the same color as the walls.”

He rolled his eyes at me, “What? It would be adorable!” He giggled, “You’re so cute.” I went over and gave him a peck on the lips, “Aw thank you, so are you.” I said walking over to Kate who woke up in the middle of our conversation.

That weekend Pat had another game against the Oilers and his fellow London Knight Sam Ganger in Edmonton, and kicked their as— oh sorry, um they kicked their bottoms? Yeah sure, not the same affect but it’s okay, having a kid is so stressful, you have to get used to what words you can and can’t say.

Anyway, the score was 9-2 and Patrick had 2 goals and an assist. Both Kate and I were sitting right by the television watching the game, even though I think that she was asleep for half of it, she slept peacefully in her carrier since it was easy to rock her back and forth with my foot while watching the game. She was wearing her new Blackhawks baby onezy that Erica and the rest of the Kanes sent us from Buffalo.

My pocket vibrated letting me know that I had a text message and I knew that it was probably Pat.

Hey Babe,
I just had to say night to my fav girls
Ill c u in a couple days.

Pat xoxoxo

I smiled and looked down at Kate, “Daddy says good night Kate, and he loves you very much.” I put the phone back into my pocket and picked Kate up gently to keep her sound asleep; I walked her into our room and placed my little angel on her cloud to sleep for the night.

I slid into bed pulling over Pat’s pillow to my side of the bed like I always do just because it makes it seem like he’s still with me on road trips. I know it makes me seem kinda creepy but it’s just what I do.

The next morning I was awaken around 4 in the morning by the same angel I had mentioned before. I picked her up and rocked her back to sleep in the rocking chair that was just outside our room. I tried to go back to sleep later but that didn’t work. I looked over at my alarm clock and it was only 4:30. ‘Oh, great,’ I told myself, ‘Another long day being a mom.’

I sat up in bed and looked at my phone which had a blinking red light going on and off on my LG Banter. I slid it open to find 3 new messages from Pat.

Message 1: Hey Babe its me!!!! Are you still awake? I’m thinking about you! :)

Message 2: Hey it’s me again! Tazer says Hi! I don’t know why he wanted me to tell you that..
I waited to read the last message, well let’s think… He’s either on the plane, or he’s been drinking or maybe both…

Message 3: Hey babe! I’d just like to apologize for the random texts, we’re on the plane coming back to Chicago, and I am soooo freaken bored! Text me when you wake up! Your always on my mind <3

Yep, I was right, I’m always right. I was going to text him back but I decided that whole sleep concept again. This time it worked and I ended up sleeping until 11. I looked over to the crib and saw Kate with her arms reaching up to the mobile of Blackhawks stuff that Pat found. He told me it was good to start them early.

I ended up feeding her changing her getting her dressed. Except when I started dressing her I noticed something, something I haven’t noticed before. She had blonde hair like Jake, but it wasn’t straight like Jake’s hair. It was kinda curly…

Then I thought to myself again (man I’ve been doing this a lot lately), ‘What if Kate was actually Patrick’s baby, and I had just mistaken the dates or something,’ NO stop thinking that, I know its Jake, Jake is the father! Patrick is just the amazing dad that is going to help me raise her. I shook off the thought and finally texted Pat back, but turns out he had already texted me for the fourth time.

New Message: Hey Bridge, just wanted to let you know that I’m over at Tazer’s with some of the rest of the guys, the guys want to see Kate and you again! I wouldn’t mind seeing you girls either ;) Please come over! <3 Pat

I rolled my eyes at the message. I put my hair up in a pony tail with my bangs falling over the right side of my face, and did my makeup and got Kate dressed in an adorable new Blackhawks cheer uniform that I had bought the day Pat went away to face the Oilers. I put a plain white onezy on and put the red and black uniform on her. She looked adorable; I grabbed my camera and went out the door.

I always loved going over to Tazer’s house. I never had to do anything; I was always the guest and never the hostess when it comes to Tazer’s house. And trust me, for a team of hockey players it’s exhausting being the hostess! I knocked on the door and there were chimes of “Come in!” and “Bridget and Kate are here!”

I rolled my eyes and came in carrying Kate in her carrier. “Hey guys! I saw your game last night! Pretty fantastic performance I must say.” I put Kate down over by her daddy and gave the guys a hug. Adam Burish, Kris Versteeg, Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, and of course Jon was there. “Aw she’s so adorable!” Oh did I forget to mention that Kris’ girlfriend and Patrick’s fiancé was there too? You didn’t seriously think that one of the guys said that right? Well, anyways while Christy and Jamie were fawning over how adorable Kate looked in her outfit I pulled out my camera and started taking pictures of all of them.

My mom always took a lot of pictures, so when she passed I got all of them, well most of them. My grandma took the ones from before I was born. I remember that when I was little I would love to be in front of the camera I’d dress up in funny outfits just to get my picture taken. I remember one time I got into my mom’s makeup kit and put lipstick on ALL over my face I looked more like the joker instead of a little girl.

“Say Cheese!” I said from behind the camera taking an adorable picture of Christy, Kris, Patrick, Jamie, and Kate. “K, thanks guys you can go back to whatever you were doing.” They all smiled and went back to playing peek-a-boo with Kate.

“Hey Bridget what’s with all the pictures lately?” Pat said wrapping his arms around my waist. “Well I was deciding on making a scrapbook for Kate, like my mom always did for me.” I looked over at all of them crowding around my baby girl, “And it seems like she’s enjoying the attention too.” I smiled and Pat kissed the top of my head, “Just like her mom.”

We finally left after saying goodbyes and such a couple hours later and Kate had started getting crabby too. Patrick carpooled with Jon so it turns out we only had one car, and I ended up driving over in his Tahoe. Pat and I rushed out to the car and quickly fastened the carrier into the car seat, I heard Pat open the door, but I didn’t hear him get in, the door closed again and I turned around and found him standing there in the rain. I looked at him directly in the eyes, his clear blue eyes matching up with mine in the pouring rain.

He grabbed my waist pulling me in closer no longer having a baby bump cutting us off from being as close as possible; I wrapped my arms around his neck. We never lost eye contact until he kissed me, and my eyes started slowly closing getting more and more into the passionate kiss that he had brought me into. He pushed me up onto the side of the SUV, our tongues fighting for dominance. There were screams of, “Way to Go Kaner!” from the background and cheers that before would end the kiss, but not this time. I was kissing the man that I loved in the rain, playing with his wet blonde curls. Then suddenly his right hand was removed from my waist and then the cheers and screams stopped.

The kiss ended as he picked me up bridal style and carried me to the other side of the car to the passenger side. Only putting me down to open the door for me, I sat there looking at him in the rain, “What?” He questioned my staring, I bit my bottom lip, “Nothing, it’s just you look so sexy standing in the pouring rain.” He gave me a short kiss again before closing the door and going over to the driver’s side. One hand on the steering wheel and the other entwined with my hand.

We were backing out of the parking lot waving at everyone up in Jon’s apartment and started driving back to our apartment.

A few minutes passed before I asked Pat, “Hey Pat?”

“Yeah Bridge?” He replied kissing my hand.

“What did you do to make them shut up before, ya know, during that kiss?” I asked with a small blush coming to my face.

“I gave them the finger.”

I nodded my head and smiled, “Thanks.” I said with a giggle.

He scrunched his eyebrows together in confusion, “For what?” he said.

“For my fairytale moment.”

He squeezed my hand slightly, “Any time.”
