Don't Let Go

Baby, Just Say Yes

Today was a girls day, which meant dress shopping! Well at least for my dress. I was going to wear my mom’s dress but I don’t think I could’ve gotten through it without breaking down crying and running out of the UC.

Erica, Jess, and Jackie decided they needed to be here for this, especially Erica who was officially my maid of honor. We went from dress shop to dress shop trying to find the perfect one. Since this was going to be my perfect wedding, and hopefully my only wedding.

The last stop we went to was David’s Bridal. Ya know the one you see in the commercials with all the pretty models? Well yeah that’s where we went. We waited for our personal shopper to come help us, when she came I told her that I wanted a strapless white gown that flowed and didn’t have like a mermaid style to it. She came back with 3 dresses; one of them was a definite no. It actually looked like the lace fairy through up on it, just a little too much lace.

The next one was good but the skirt was a little poofy, like Glinda poofy I guess you could say. But the last one, oh my God the last was perfect. It was a chiffon gown that went down to the floor with a nice train it had a design down the front that was to die for. It was not poofy, it didn’t have that much lace, it was completely perfect.

I tried it on and they gave me a tiara and a veil to try on with it to create the full affect. I walked out of the dressing room to see everyone else sitting there with their mouths with open. “Bridget you look gorgeous!” Erica said. I bit my bottom lip lifting up the front of my dress so I could step up onto the stool that was in front of the mirror.

A tear fell from my eyes as my personal shopper, or Linda as she told me her name was, asked, “So? What do you say? Is this a yes?” Another tear fell and I started nodding my head rapidly, “Yes! Yes! Yes!” I screamed as I stepped off the step and spun around. I went back to the dressing room and pulled out my phone and texted Pat:

To: <3 Pat <3
New Message:

Okay Pat I got the dress and it’s so amazing! I love it sooo much and so do your sisters!

I took off the dress and got changed and my phone vibrated again.

From: <3 Pat <3
Message:

I knew you’d find the right one! What does it look like? I know you look beautiful in it!

To: <3 Pat <3
New Message:

Sorry can’t tell you, matter a fact ur not even gonna c it until the wedding! :p

From: <3 Pat <3

:(

I rolled my eyes as Linda came back in to take the dress and ring it up for us. It turns out that the dress was a perfect fit and didn’t need any sizing to be done! I love when things work out perfectly. We also ended up getting a new veil too. It was plain veil that went down to my elbows. I didn’t buy a new tiara just because that’s what I was going to wear of my moms. Okay, now I have something new, something borrowed and something blue. Yes, my guarder is blue. That’s gonna be Pat’s favorite part I betcha.

The date was creeping closer and closer, until it was the actual day. The little things were all situated, like the reception was to be held up in the Harris club in the United Center. It was going to be a fairly small wedding I’d say; Pat’s parents, my grandparents, everyone from the team, their dates, some of my aunts and uncles, Taylor and Chris, and Alexa and Danielle from the Hawks games.

I was seriously stressed out even though Pat was as cool as a cucumber. He stayed at a hotel near the United Center just because I needed more space for my girls and everyone. I had gotten my hair done in an elegant wrapped high bun just perfect so my tiara and veil would fit. I had the girls hair up in a half pony tail with their hair curled. We got their makeup and nails done and everything was perfect. I just hoped the guys were actually getting things done.

PAT’s POV:

Okay so I woke up that morning and I was pretty calm compared to Bridget I betcha.

Women

Anyway, the rest of the guys came over around noon since the wedding would be at two. Jon showed up first in his suit and was completely ready. I took a shower and fixed my hair the way Bridget always liked it. I actually had to get it cut because Bridget didn’t like it as long as I did. I gelled it and fixed it as only I could. I got dressed and sooner or later everyone else showed up looking all nice, well at least nicer than they usually do.

I opened the door to Adam Burish who had his hands in his pocket and his tie undone. “Pat, I don’t understand why we have to wear these monkey suits. I mean were gonna be at the UC why not wear our jerseys?” He said walking through the door as only Adam Burish could.

“It’s because if we did then Bridget would kill us.” I responded, “And besides she said we could wear gym shoes and our jerseys at the reception.”

“Yeah Bur, you should be grateful.” Troy Brouwer said backing me up, “My wife didn’t even let us wear gym shoes at our reception remember?”

Adam Burish nodded his head in agreement, “So does Bridge have another dress for after the wedding? Like a shorter hotter one?” Adam winked at me.

“Hey! Hands off, but I think she said she mentioned that she did have on for the reception, I think.”

“Oh! And don’t forget about the guarder!” Adam Burish chimed in, “You have to go get it with your teeth.” He winked again.

I smiled and got a call from downstairs that the limo was here. Once we got into the limo I was hoping that I wasn’t going to get a comment but guess what, “Hey Kris, Pat, John!” Troy Brouwer started, “Don’t take your shirts off this time; you know we are in a limo.”

I rolled my eyes and looked at John who was about to hit him, and I wasn’t going to stop him, “Hey John, you know if you do decide to break his big nose just make sure you don’t get any blood on his suit. Bridget will kill me.”There were laughs all through the long limo that we had rented. I actually wanted the big hummer limo but Bridget didn’t like that idea, she didn’t even like it when I had my hummer.

We finally got to the UC and the girls’ limo was already parked there. We all put on our shades to look even cooler walking it. It was our little guy touch to the wedding, but we would have to take them off during the wedding, Bridget said she would get to see my pretty eyes if I kept them on.

We waited in the United Center lobby just a few months before we were scrambling to get out of there to have Kate. I waited sitting on the familiar bench only to be talked to by some of Bridget’s friends that have arrived a little early.

Then her grandparents showed up with Kate who was the flower girl. She is 6 months old now, with a red headband in her blonde hair and her black and red dress that matched the other bridesmaids. “Hello Patrick,” Grandma Vera said. I automatically stood up and went over to her giving her a hug while Grandpa Daniel held Kate. “Good afternoon Vera, good afternoon Daniel.” I said respectfully.

“Okay, we have to ask you something.” Vera started, “I don’t think that neither Daniel nor I would be able to make it down the ‘aisle’ here, would there be any way for you to find someone else to walk Kate down?”

I took a deep breath and smiled, “Yes, of course,” I said taking Kate from Daniel. “Thank you so much Patrick, it makes it so much easier on these old legs.”

Then I decided to be the sweetheart that I am, “You mean young legs.” I said giving her a wink.

“Oh Patrick you break my heart.” She said with a smile.

Daniel wrapped his arms around his wife and went off to find their seats. “Alright Kate, who to walk you down the aisle now, I’ve got it, let’s find Adam, he’d love too I betcha.”

We found Adam already schmoozing some of Bridget’s aunts. He always goes after the older women. This would be the perfect time too. “Hey Adam, sorry to interrupt but Bridget’s grandparents can’t walk Kate down the aisle, do you think you could do it for me? You did say last week that you wanted to have a special role in the wedding.”

He looked at me and then looked at Kate and back at the cougars that he was going after, then back at me, “Yeah of course man, I’d love to!” He said as excited as possible. I gave Kate to Adam and she almost started to cry, “Aw, its okay Kate, you’ll see me in a little bit.” Phew, problem solved.

Bridget’s POV:

Alright it’s almost two and I hear everyone from the echo of the United Center. Everyone was in place for my wedding to start and I was still a nervous wreck. I was hoping everything was going to go perfectly just like rehearsal did. Then Jon finally saw me for the first time, I was sitting in the hawks locker room in Pat’s normal stall, “Bridget its—Whoa, you look gorgeous.”

I looked up at him and smiled, “Thank you, you don’t look bad yourself.” He gave me a smirk, “Well I just wanted to let you know that it’s show time.” Just as he said that “Crazier” came on the load speakers of the UC and my heart started to pound, “Jon, I don’t think I can do this.” I said shaking my head. “Bridget,” He said holding out his hand, “You can do this, there is a man outside that loves you, and won’t stop talking about you, and I can tell you love him too. I have never seen this little boy look at someone the same way as he looks at you. You are perfect for him, and you gave him a little girl that he loves so much.”

I looked up into his brown eyes, “I hope you’re not stealing his wedding vows.” I said with a smirk. “I hope so too.” My smirk turned into a smile as we walked out of the locker room and out through the home bench, as I looked down the aisle and saw Pat at the other end. That’s my favorite part, when the groom looks back at you with a smile and doesn’t take their eyes off of you for a second.

Before we stepped onto the red carpet Jon looked down at me and whispered, “Are you ready?” I nodded my head still looking at Pat in his suit smiling away at me. We finally made it down the aisle with camera flashes and video cameras all the way. Then the spotlight was on the priest, “Who gives this woman away?” He asked very professionally. “I do,” Jon said in his deep Canadian voice. I turned to him and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek and walked over to Pat.

The wedding went smoothly and I hadn’t cried, that is I didn’t cry until we got to say our vows.

“The bride and groom have prepared their own vows to each other.” The priest said, as I looked over to Erica who had my vows in her bouquet of flowers. She handed me the paper and smiled, “You look beautiful Bridge.” She whispered. I gave her a hug and went back to Pat, who had a piece of paper in his hands too.

“I’ll start; I think it will be better this way just in case I break down into tears.” There was a small giggle amongst the audience when I opened up the folded piece of paper.

“Pat,” I started looking into his eyes and then back at my paper. “One summer, that’s all it took for me to fall for you. After looking into your eyes after that one day during that one summer, I knew you’d be the one.” I looked up at him and smiled a weak smile, “It’s also hard to believe that I’ve known you basically my whole life without meeting you until a year ago. I remember in 5th grade during a sleepover with your sister I told her that I had a crush on you. She asked me why, and I told her that it was because you were just like my Daddy.” I started to break down.

“And now basically a year later, I have a baby girl, who looks at you with her big blue eyes the same way I looked at you when I saw pictures of you, and stared into your blue, blue eyes for the first time.” I swallowed trying to pull myself together. “And after what’s happened through this year I’ve been with you I don’t think looking at you will ever stop giving me butterflies. I love you Patrick Timothy Kane, and I always will.”

I let the tears fall as I took the ring from Jackie who was our unofficial ring bearer, and slipped the ring on his left hand. “Patrick.” The priest said giving Pat the go ahead. He nodded and smiled but gave the paper back to Jon and turned back towards me

“Bridget, knowing you has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. You’ve turned my life around, before that first summer I didn’t think that I would ever be able to love someone the same way I love you right now. You’ve actually never known this, but I actually knew about you before we first met. That is because of our little matchmaker over there, and I love her for telling me about you. Telling me stories about your parties that’d you’d have with your stuffed animals, and Barbie dolls, telling me about how all you’d talk about was your Dad and how proud you were of him.

But when she told me that you were with Eric, it didn’t feel right. Like when homecoming came around and she sent pictures of you and her plus your dates, my heart ached. That’s when I found out that you were living with us; I felt that I would actually have a chance, a chance to show you that I’d be the right guy for you. I think it also helped that you were a hockey girl too; they don’t come around to often. I just hope that you can be proud of me just as proud you are of your father.” He gave me a wink and I smiled. “I love you Bridget, forever and always.” He smiled and Jackie came and gave him the ring, and slid it on my finger.

He laced his fingers together with mine as we waited for the priest to say that final line, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Patrick, you may kiss your bride.” The priest said with the first smile he had all through the ceremony.

He looked at me, and I looked at him and he kissed me, involuntarily wrapping my arms around his neck giving him a good kiss that erupted in cheers and applause from the guys, my girls, and the rest of the crowd. We separated, and he picked me up bridal style (which was appropriate) and spun me around and kissed me again. Then there was a big shout from Erica, “Picture time!”

We had lots of pictures including a picture of Pat, Kate, and I that looked just like the one I have of my parents and I at their wedding.

<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

Once we got upstairs I changed into my new dress that I had got a week prior to the wedding. It was another strapless white dress that flowed and went to my knees, the only difference was that this one was less lacey and it had a black ribbon around my waist. I also took my veil off, but I kept the tiara on. I also switched necklaces and put on the necklace my Dad gave me from that summer.

Everyone was on the dance floor until the DJ stopped the music and got everyone’s attention and my bridesmaids and the groomsmen/the Blackhawks lined up getting ready. Pat and I waited in the back hand in hand waiting for the announcement.

“Ladies and Gentlemen,” He started turning on “I Gotta Feeling” which got the bridal party on the dance floor starting to dance and clapping, “I would like to be the first to announce Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Timothy Kane Jr. Oh I’m sorry Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Timothy Kane the 2nd!”, that made the crowd and me erupt in laughs.

Pat and strutted out hand in hand my hips moving the entire way out. I got wows from the guys and congrats from the girls going towards the middle of the dance floor. I loved walking out to the guys who were now in their jerseys as well as Pat was. We finished the song and Adam came up to me, “So, when is the guarder and bouquet ceremony gonna happen?” He asked. I rolled my eyes and told him in a few minutes. His face lit up and he went and sat back down at his table with his shades on.

A few minutes had passed and the DJ looked at me and I nodded my head telling him it was time. He stopped the music and told everyone to return to their seats. He came down grabbing a folding chair that was behind his set up, and placed it in the exact center of the dance floor. “Alright Ms. Kane come and take a seat.” The DJ said, and the cool thing was his actual name was DJ (Damen James). I walked over with cheers from the crowd and all.

DJ went back to his music and pressed a button triggering the song “Rock you like a Hurricane”. I rolled my eyes at that one. Patrick came on cue and walked over with his shades on getting down on his knees. There were chants from the guys saying, “Go gettum Kaner!” He took my shoe off kissing the bare skin from my knee all the way to my ankle. I had a blush come to my cheeks when he lifted up my skirt and went head first kissing the bare skin of my thigh and grabbing the blue guarder with his tongue and his teeth, dragging it all the way down my leg.

“YEAH KANER!” cheered Adam Burish from the sidelines. I started laughing when he put the guarder on his head and gathered all the single guys onto the dance floor. “Ready! 1! 2! 3!” He slingshot it into the crowd of men, it getting grabbed by the instigator himself, he cheered and did his own off-ice celebration.

Next it was my turn all the girls crowded the hard wood floor and I turned around and chucked the bouquet of daisies and roses behind my head only hearing screams and cheers when Erica, the Erica Kane ended up with it at the end. Patrick came behind me, “Oh great, my younger sister with some guy, just great.”

“Hey, your sister is an amazing girl; it will be easy for her to find the perfect guy.”

“Yeah but it’s the other guys I’m worried about.”

I laughed, “You’re such a protective older brother.”

“Yeah, but now I’m your protective husband. Oh speak of the devil himself.” Just then Adam Burish and some other guys walked over.

“Hey, if you don’t mind Kaner, we’d like to have a dance with the bride.” Adam said in the politest voice I had ever heard him use.

He smiled, “Yeah just don’t break her,” and Adam put his hand out and I took it. He and the entire team led me to the floor. Adam gave a look to the DJ who hit a button and “Bust a move” turned on and then the guys went into a circle around me. I started moving my hips to the music and then Duncan came and took my hand and started dancing around me as well as a hockey player like he can. Then Sopel and Seabrook came and danced with me for awhile.

Next was Sharp and started lip syncing to me and John Madden showed up spinning me around getting me dizzy. The rest of the guys had their 10 seconds of dancing with me until it was the captains turn to show off his dancing skills. He grabbed my hand and spun me around and sooner or later we were swing dancing. “Holy crap Jon! Where did you learn how to do that?” He shrugged his shoulders, I think it was for another wedding we had to swing dance.” He spun me around once more and Adam Burish was the last one up.

He picked me up and spun me around, dancing around me like a freak, I started to giggle. Then Pat walked in looking all cool in his shades, and finished off the song. The guys all rushed back to their seats and grabbed their glasses and started hitting them with some silverware. Then, they all chanted, “KISS! KISS! KISS!” I raised my eyebrows at Pat and jumped up and straddled him and started totally making out with him. There were more cheers and screams and he put me down finishing off the kiss. “So how does it feel to be Mrs. Patrick Kane the 2nd?” He asked me slowing down when the music slowed. “Honestly?” he nodded his head, “Pretty damn spectacular.”
